12/17/2014 - 8:57am Also, didn't you just prove

Also, didn't you just prove my point not to trust any 'insiders' at this point because there is so much uncertainty?

12/17/2014 - 8:46am According to John U Bacon,

According to John U Bacon, that report wasn't based on 'nothing.' But it wasn't based on anything substantial. There was contact between Michigan and Les Miles in 2007. Anyway -- what makes you think the 'inside' information being passed around right now is any different from that ESPN report?

12/17/2014 - 8:36am Optimism from 'insiders'

Optimism from 'insiders' means very little. I will not feel confident about anything until a coach is introduced at a press conference. Remember what happened with Les Miles in 2007. 'Insiders' thought it was a done deal, when it wasn't. And the NFL reporters have just as credible sources as the local reporters. But they are different sources, who have different feelings / impressions (obviously) about what Harbaugh will do.

TL/DR: I don't think one single 'insider' has any more credible information than any other. They all know very little, except for the 'feelings' of those supposedly connected.

Remember 'insiders' have burned you in the past. Don't trust them.

12/16/2014 - 8:39am From the actual post: "Well,

From the actual post: "Well, my sources have informed me that Michigan radio voice Jim Brandstatter has been telling his media friends that he expects Harbaugh to take the U of M job and it is just a question of the timing of the San Francisco buyout now."

Uhh ... a 'source' is telling him that Brandstatter has been telling his media friends that Harbaugh is coming. He didn't hear from Brandstatter himself. I don't take anything this guy says seriously -- and neither should you, if you don't wanna get burned.

11/26/2014 - 10:53am Who is Michigan? Is it

Who is Michigan? Is it Schlissel? I'm guessing it is and that he's the one making decisions. And if so, he's a new face with pretty much nothing to do with the current dumpster fire within the football program. I'm willing to give Schlissel a chance to make some decisions. He seems like a smart guy. But who knows?

11/26/2014 - 10:17am Is it wishful thinking to

Is it wishful thinking to believe this decision has been made to help with hiring a new football coach? An athletic department with a non-interim AD looks more stable than one with an interim one.

11/25/2014 - 2:19pm Because he's won a national

Because he's won a national championship and had sustained success in the SEC -- and he played and coached for Bo Schembechler at Michigan. It's pretty simple. He's been a really good coach and there's no reason to think he wouldn't be good in Ann Arbor. We could do much worse than Les Miles. I get why people aren't crazy about him -- but, like, what do we expect at this point? If Harbaugh doesn't come, there's no other obvious home-run hires. And Les would be a very solid option.

11/16/2014 - 12:23pm Rich Rod left a great fit at

Rich Rod left a great fit at West Virginia to come to Michigan -- a place with more pressure. There's no reason to think he isn't looking to step up to a bigger program once again.

11/14/2014 - 6:32pm I agree -- it would take

I agree -- it would take between $5-6 million / yr and a five-year deal. For comparison -- Urban Meyer makes something like $5 million.

11/07/2014 - 4:10pm Who is this 'Michigan' that

Who is this 'Michigan' that JUB is referring to?

"4. He thinks Coach Hoke will be back if he manages to beat OSU and finish 7-5.  He believes MICHIGAN [my emphasis] would prefer not to make a change ...

...

8.  The "Michigan Man factor" will be an issue when hiring a coach but not an overwhelming one.  He thinks MICHIGAN learned from hiring Coach Hoke that being a "Michigan Man" is overrated ..."

Who is 'Michigan'? It's so difficult to predict what will happen because there is no single 'Michigan' -- the university is a collection of many people with widely different ideas about the state of the program and its future.

Does JUB mean Hackett when he says 'Michigan'? If so, I'd guess it's too early to make any predictions about what Hackett will do at season's end, assuming a new AD is NOT hired yet. All this prognosticating is such BS. No one knows what will happen. And I'm preparing myself for the worst.

10/27/2014 - 8:42pm I remember when I thought

I remember when I thought that winning 8-10 games was easy to do if you could recruit at a high level and hire competent assistant coaches. I'll be pleased if Michigan returns to competent in the future. I remember how incredibly naive and arrogant I was in January 2011. I thought accomplishing what Lloyd Carr accomplished at Michigan was easy to replicate. And i thought Hoke could do it because hed had a modicum of success at Ball State and SDSU. I thought he could be a "ceo"-type coach -- but I didnt and still dont know what that even means. Obviously he wasnt gonna be an offensive or defensive genius. I figured all it would take was good recruiting and hiring competent coaches on defense. I was so so wrong. The head coach is much more important than I ever imagined. My older brother has reminded me for a while that everyone (including me) who was impatient and upset when the m stood for mediocrity during the lloyd carr years was dead wrong. It was never mediocre to win 8-10 games / year. Now you learn not to take it for granted, but it's too late and your team that you love to cheer for is practically dead. / rant.

Feagin wasn't the arsonist. It was his 'friend.'

10/12/2014 - 12:52pm End of Freshman year - 2009.

End of Freshman year - 2009. Frat party at that one that used to be next to the Union. I have pretty much no connection to this place but showed up with some other people for this big party -- I think the frat was moving to another location so it was a going-away party-type thing -- and somehow they let us in to the party.

A great night. Do some dancing, have a couple drinks. Go to the front step to smoke and Justin Feagin --the Justin Feagin -- and the crew he's with show up at the door. The freshmen pledge frat bouncer guys are giving him a hard time about getting in to the party -- I say, "he's cool, let him in." Freshmen pledger dudes let Justin Feagin and his crew in. I high-five Feagin, who I've never met before in my life.

Cool story, bro.

10/02/2014 - 8:25pm Agree that it's tough to

Agree that it's tough to judge coaches like Helfrich at Oregon. But I feel like our choice has to have head coach experience somewhere.

10/02/2014 - 8:21pm It's $7.5 million this year

It's $7.5 million this year because he just signed a contract. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/246562…

One problem with McElwain is his buyout is enormous. More than $7 million IIRC.

01/31/2014 - 9:46pm I agree with

most of your criticism in this thread---but geez. This seems straight ad hominem and not board material. This whole damn thing has got people writing and thinking unreasonable things. /resumeslurkingontheboardlikeusual

12/08/2013 - 1:38pm Fox playing

Radiohead for the outro to commercial?

12/08/2013 - 1:31pm what happened with Reggie Bush?

Hurt during warm ups?

12/07/2013 - 7:25pm Verne

makes up for Danielson's general backwardsness--IMO. I love CBS's production style--love the NFL games too. It sure beats listening to Musberger

12/07/2013 - 6:15pm BTN guys

were favorable to MSU last night. Didn't see gameday this morning.

12/07/2013 - 5:59pm picking on the CBS announcers

for having a bias towards the ESS SEE SEE is like complaining that NBC is biased towards ND. I mean, yeah of course they are. Besides Army-Navy, do they call any other conferences games?

12/07/2013 - 5:54pm I'll take back what I said

because it will be more appropriate to argue about this issue of who is more deserving after both teams finish their games tonight.

12/07/2013 - 5:47pm Which would be

the right call. If Auburn wins, they beat another top ten team. OSU did have a convincing win over Indiana though.

12/07/2013 - 5:41pm Mizzou

just needs to keep moving the ball. Auburn's D doesn't look great either.

12/07/2013 - 5:22pm which team

runs plays faster? Auburn is really impressive in that way--in my mind they're as impressive as Oregon has ever been for time between plays.

12/07/2013 - 5:19pm Auburn's QB-RB

combo looks as good as OSU's.

12/07/2013 - 5:17pm Their rush defense

is having some trouble though.

12/07/2013 - 4:55pm I understand

disliking Gary. But Verne is a great announcer--and just a lovable dude.

11/27/2013 - 1:53pm constant construction

, you say. Sounds familiar...

11/09/2013 - 7:01pm I think

Michigan needs to stand by their man. I'm reminded by it when I read the quote in your signature. Although a shake up with the assistants is the right call.

!

03/02/2011 - 5:16pm imagine

if the university in 2002 had to take down two national championship banners instead of two final four banners?

What could have been...

And to think all the dramatic finishes and highlight reel dunks don't even officially exist anymore.

01/08/2011 - 5:52pm Deal breaker for LM would probably be DB telling him

no grayshirting.

01/08/2011 - 5:45pm Besides a super bowl ring and incredible success in the nfl

one of his best assets might be his age--he's 47, the same age as JH and ten years younger than LM.

I agree though that he's probably not coming. We've heard these rumors of JG-to-college before.

But can he manage a college team?

01/08/2011 - 5:32pm Gruden has been out of the college game

since the early 90s... Would he fit back into the college game? I do think his NFL cachet would help recruiting as much as Les Miles's college clout would, perhaps even more.

12/24/2010 - 11:51am I agree completely

. Those players own those gifts and should be able to sell them. And to solve the potential problem of colleges offering gifts as a type of incentive, bribe, whathaveyou, the NCAA should manage and restrict the amount/quality of gifts given to players (they may already do this, I'm not sure).

12/24/2010 - 11:43am of course

they didn't suspend the OSU players for the bowl game...That would have hurt everyone's bottom line.

03/29/2010 - 4:14pm structural analysis
