12/21/2011 - 7:31pm On a personal note...

The whole rivalry thing is what I'm dealing with right now. I've been accepted to Michigan but my mom, dad, and twin brother are all Sparties. I've dreamed of going to UM for a few years now and honestly feel that I'll probably be happier in Ann Arbor than East Lansing, but it will be a little weird to cheer against State. My parents are being supportive of whatever I decide to do (James Madison at MSU is attractive I have to admit) but it's definetely difficult for them, which I can respect.

I've been cheering for UM except for when they played MSU for a few years no. It was just too hard to cheer for a school that I wasn't sure I was going to get into. =) Now I'm kind of in limbo but leaning towards the Wolverines. Thank goodness my parents respect me enough to let me make these decisions, though.

12/16/2011 - 7:44pm I don't think so. Decisions

I don't think so. Decisions just started going out tonight. I know a few engineers who have gotten in too.

12/16/2011 - 7:35pm This is completely off topic

This is completely off topic but I was just accepted to LSA for the class of 2016! I am so excited! GO BLUE!

10/10/2011 - 7:53pm To be fair, I think most

To be fair, I think most everyone thought that Tosh.0 video was awful. The people in it make me embarassed from a human perspective, let alone a Spartan one.

10/10/2011 - 7:45pm Speaking from personal

Speaking from personal experience, NONE of the Spartan fans I know, be it friends, family friends, or my own parents, know anything about the stuff in this article. It's a big strech to say that the rivalry is deeply rooted in the actions of UM, especially when one realizes that the story is similar is just about every state with a dominant University.

Like it or not. =P

10/10/2011 - 7:39pm I hate TCU, but this is a

I hate TCU, but this is a good move for them, and it actually makes sense. If it contributes in any way to stabilizing the Big 12 I am very happy about this! =D

10/10/2011 - 7:26pm This is the first MSU-UM game

This is the first MSU-UM game where things aren't so black and white for me. Now that I've applied to MSU and U of M (with hopes for the latter more prominent now) I've been worried about what would happen if I cheered for one and went to the other! D;

It would be awful to be all jubilant about UM winning and not get in. xD

Anyway, now that I follow both teams, my uninformed perspective is that UM looks like a different team this year. Every MSU game I've watched has seemed inconsistent at best.

I'll probably be in MSU gear if I'm in the stadium Saturday (no UM stuff in this Spartan household!) but it will be hard for me not to be somewhat happy for UM if they pull it out (and I think they will).

That was overly purple but you guys get my drift. =P

08/21/2011 - 12:36pm Thanks everyone.

If nothing else, I have additional motivation. Go Blue!

08/21/2011 - 12:20am Sorry...

I know this is kind of spamming a thread, but I couldn't get anyone to respond to my previous posts in more topical threads and this is important. Sorry if this is super annoying, take it as an honor to be so envied by a high schooler...

I know this is a biased source, but I'm also wondering if, assuming I get in, UM is really worth the massive price difference due to me getting an automatic half-off at tuition at MSU since both my parents work there. I know I would certainly prefer U of M. =)

I would just like some advice on getting in, what to do on my app, and some realistic chances. This is kinda long but I would really appreciate some feedback.

-4 years of Band, including Marching Band. Will be editor of Band newsletter during senior year.
-A year of forensics (impromptu speech) over junior year, won numerous tournaments and came 5th in the state
-National Honor Society, including tutoring my former 8th grade English teacher's students (since 10th grade)
-3.84 UW gpa, idk weighted
-Honors English since 9th grade, All A's there
-A.P. World History in 10th grade, Government in 11th: 5's on both their exams. A's in both classes.
-Self-studied European and US history junior year, got a 4 and a 5 (classes not offered at my school, few APs are)
-Took Spanish for 2 years, will have taken German for 2 years. Will have Spanish for 3 years if they can fix my senior schedule.
-30 ACT score
-Taking AP Lit, both AP Econs, and AP CPS next year. Econ might not run since a few people are dropping it, but I'll still take the exams.
-Top 10 percent of class
-I have kythosis (spinal issues) due to almost dying at birth, so I've had weekly physical therapies since the beginning of my life, sometimes up to 3 a week at certain points. This takes up more time than any extracurricular or anything, but I'm not sure if I should mention it.

Everything would be higher if not for freshman year...I had lots of emotional troubles and got 2 C minuses in Geometry, and somehow, an A minus in band! (gasp!)

After a 3.65 freshman gpa, sophomore year was 3.96, junior year 3.9. So, do you guys think I have a shot at UM? If I can get in, I have another question: because my parents work at MSU, I get automatic half off tuition. Is UM worth the giant price difference? I doubt I'll get any aid there.

Additionally, I am in state. Are there any other schools I should apply to?

Sorry for reviving this thread but seeing as new members can't post...

08/18/2011 - 11:28pm Wow!

I first visited Zingermans while doing a forensics (speech) tournament with my high school, and it has been my first and only visit to Ann Arbor. The vibe I experienced around the deli and  the diag made me want to attend U of M, so I definetely have to side with the Z despite never going to or hearing of Maize and Blue until this thread.
