12/04/2015 - 9:17am Don Muhlbach

To me, the most Lions loss has to be one where they roped you back in before ripping your heart out again. Last night is probably it.

But before then: Lions complete furious comeback to tie the game against Minnesota - except long snapper Don Muhlbach rolls the snap back on the PAT, kicker never gets it off, game over.

10/12/2015 - 7:45pm Re the TV coverage, it was

Re the TV coverage, it was even worse. In the replay, Millen said something like, "When you're a returner, you have to run with your eyes. You know where it's supposed to go, but this is where it opens."

So not only did he not give us the analysis of the play, he missed it entirely and suggested that Chesson only took it left because it was bottled up ahead.

10/12/2015 - 1:48pm Great post

I noted this in the coaching snowflakes, but Chesson said on the radio postgame that they'd seen on film that NW didn't protect the weakside well on kickoffs. As you well described, this is a return play to take advantage of exactly that. RPS +3.

10/10/2015 - 7:41pm Instead of blocking forward,

Instead of blocking forward, the blocker in front of Chesson (Butt? Can't tell on my phone) runs across the field

On the radio post game, Chesson said they'd seen on film that NW didn't protect the weak side on kickoffs. Watch his TD again - the blocking is set up right from the beginning to feint forward then head weak side. Baxter RPS +3.

08/15/2014 - 3:35pm Edit

I should say, my season ticket says $75. Mgoblue is selling them for $70 - $95, depending on location - see here. Can even get them as low as $55, if you buy 50 or more tickets.

08/15/2014 - 3:31pm $75

Face is $75

06/30/2014 - 11:12am That was my point

The "period in question" regarding the NW union decision is after 2013, so Noel Canning doesn't have any effect on NW. I think we're saying the same thing.

06/30/2014 - 9:39am No effect

The senate confirmed all five NLRB nominees in 2013: Everything that happened after then is unaffected by Noel Canning.

04/24/2014 - 3:01pm Renewed
  1. Student/Alum/Did not attend:  Alum
  2. Number of previous seasons you purchased season tickets, as student or not, excluding 2014:  7
  3. Number of tickets renewed for 2014:  2
  4. Number of tickets NOT renewed for 2014:  0
  5. Bonus question:  Did the Nuss hire or the Penn State night game announcement sway your decision?  No
02/09/2014 - 7:06pm Order it to go

If you're buying fast food, Starbucks, etc, order it to go - sales tax is charged on dine-in orders but not to-go orders (even if you turn around and eat in anyway). Save yourself a few cents, and give a little less to the state university.

10/12/2013 - 9:47pm Yes

Generally agree with this. Coaching wasn't perfect, but put us in multiple high probability situations to win. Sometimes it just doesn't go your way.

10/09/2013 - 3:49pm What is/should be Williams's assignment here?

It looks like he hesitates between helping on Hageman and blocking the DE.

And then, as the play develops, the DE doesn't crash on the RB. At the mesh point, he's got his shoulders square and is keeping contain on Gardner for the bootleg - which, as we've seen over and over again, is both (1) a good idea, given M's penchant for bootleg and waggle; and (2) more or less standard defense at this point.

Why not have Williams help on Hageman and leave the DE, unless and until the DE starts crashing? At that point, M can either tell Williams to block the DE, or crack open the bootleg/waggle chapter of the playbook.

08/26/2013 - 9:57pm Met Kolesar a couple years

Met Kolesar a couple years ago at an event in Cleveland. He was very gracious, even as I tried my best to reenact the Chris Farley Show sketch. ("uh, you remember, um, that touchdown against ohio state? Remember that? That was awesome.")

I remember the announcers saying we had no timeouts, and when he called it, waiting to hear what the penalty was.

01/01/2013 - 4:44pm This

01/01/2013 - 4:42pm Seriously?

Our backup DBs couldn't defend, and that's on the coaches?

01/01/2013 - 4:16pm Really?

"Come on, coach, you should have known that if you went for it, we'd get it on a questionable spot and then turn it over?"

01/01/2013 - 4:08pm so no fumble recovery

not that we deserve it, but i think that's the rule

01/01/2013 - 4:07pm ball dead when helmet off

12/15/2012 - 3:28pm I don't think this is RichRod's fault

Everyone knows Mike Stoops left the cupboard bare . . .

12/03/2012 - 11:50am Great work

Another hypotheses:

We know game results are highly dependent on turnovers, which might suggest that some teams "play better" than their opponent but are forced into overtime because of turnovers.  I would guess that overtime performance is negatively correlated with turnover margin during the regulation portion of the game.

11/22/2012 - 9:30pm Small piece of advice on food

If you get fast food, always order it to go.  Ohio charges sales tax on eat-in food, but not on carry-out.  Order your fast food to go, then sit down at a table and eat it if you like; otherwise, those hard-earned few extra cents will help fund the state university system . . .

11/11/2012 - 9:10pm My thought exactly

Great analysis; and I'd hypothesize that overtime is a weighted coin flip, weighted towards the better team (and not waited towards or away from "momentum").

The other 2 M fans and I just brought down the bar in Columbus!

10/13/2012 - 11:46pm Wouldn't hesitate to pull anyone else in that situation

only your "closer."  "Yes, he's pitching terribly today, but he's my 'closer.'"  What a stupid creation.
