A self-reported U of C alum and the best you can do with that superior education is troll UM message boards?  And I thought we were the losers...

11/25/2018 - 9:26am I share everyone’s…

I share everyone’s heartbreak and disappointment—mistakes were made, lessons to be learned.  I described it to my wife as “soulcrushing” given the hope I carried into the game. We openly mock how our rivals obsess about us, but their recent record indicates they have had the last laugh. Expect Harbaugh to look hard at that—especially with respect to The Game.

I also think yesterday’s game opens a broader question for UM Leadership and the fanbase: what do we want to be in today’s NCAA: the Leaders or Best?  Between our admission standards and our unwillingness to participate in the underbelly of recruiting (aka bag men), can we realistically compete year in and out with the SEC and tOSU for football championships?  Similar for Beilein and basketball.

I’m incredibly proud of what Michigan stands for in terms of the quality of student athletes we accept and develop, but it begs the question across all our programs: do we change our moral compass or our expectations for success?

09/30/2018 - 12:09pm I hate James Franklin with…

I hate James Franklin with every ounce of my being.  He has surpassed Meyer and Dantonio in that regard—which should tell you a lot.  But at this point to call him lucky or try to disrespect what they have done is merely an exercise in trying to make ourselves feel better.  This is not a zero sum game—Franklin and Harbaugh can be good.

We just need some signature wins to convince the general public we’re elite again.  In last 18 mos we have been bridesmaid but never a bride.  If we can finish strong against the gauntlet this year the narrative starts to change.  We just need to show consistent killer instinct and relentless focus.

Excited for Giles--and the athleticism he and Eric Gray will bring.

Here's hoping Jim and Pep are watching Andy Reid at work in NFL.  While they may not have his top-end speed, Tyreek Hill has a similar frame and elusive style that are game breaking.  Chris Evans has similar skills, but lacks the low center of gravity that helps successfully break more arm tackles.

Harbaughs Unite

So rule precludes NCAA Satellite Camps. What if Jim works through his NFL connections to host prep camps in the vein of promoting better fundamentals--beginning with the Ravens?

11/28/2015 - 3:16pm Would have never expected

Would have never expected this is a million years--thought we would adjust much better at half. Outcoached to be sure, but athleticism gap is even more pronounced--especially at LB, DL, and RB. Still can't believe with all the blue chips we have at OL and RB we still can't run effectively.

In the end, it hurts but does not ruin progress in year one. Now need to close in on top athletes in 2016.

02/25/2011 - 10:57am I liked him from the get-go

I liked him from the get-go and have grown to like him more-and-more with every passing article or interview with high school coach or  recruit I read.   But, of course my ultimate opinion will also be measured in wins and losses.

In the meantime, a couple related thoughts:

1. I think we all underappreciated Lloyd Carr, myself included.  Is there anything wrong with being the next Lloyd?  I don't think so.  But I think he will be the best of Lloyd with a more aggressive philosophy.

2. He is clearly not going to win the Nobel Prize anytime soon and he's not the most polished public speaker.  But his genuiness comes off and humble; it's quite refreshing compared to most of the egomaniac coaches in NCAA athletics and I think will ingratiate him with fans, press, and recruits.

3. I'm not going to go there with the compare-and-contrasts to the Vest as I agree they are different scenarios and track records.  But let's not underestimate that the programs he was head coach of were not successful before he arrived, successful while he was there, and Ball St. became unsuccessful once again when he left (SDSU is an incomplete).  That could either be (1) an interesting coincidence; or (2) indicative of what he can do.

02/02/2011 - 10:54am CBS College Sports

What a depressing set and cast of characters.  RichRod--understandably--couldn't look less excited to be there.  He is kind of hard to hear with his commentary.

Back to the ESPNU coverage...

02/01/2011 - 11:04pm The Funk

I thought Darrell Funk went out to meet with Pat Flavin?

02/01/2011 - 7:36pm Very Nice Jake Ryan

Glad to hear that about Jake Ryan, I had not previously seen anything about him impressing in bowl practices, let alone during the regular season.

I'm betting on Richard Ash and Josh Furman to be the other top impact RS players for next year.  I could see quite a few contributing.

01/28/2011 - 8:22am Brady Stopped in Columbus

To kick Tressel in the balls before screaming in his pained face "GO BLUE!"

01/27/2011 - 8:59pm Great Addition

Perfect hire, a Michigan Man who can also teach the art of oversigning from his days at 'Bama.

01/27/2011 - 11:01am Pls Kill the Use of GERG2

Nothing good will come of it, plus it's an insult to Mr. Mattison.

I don't have a better nickname suggestion just yet for Greg, but we need to find one that does justice to his prowess.

01/18/2011 - 11:16pm In Greg's Backyard

It's a short scenic drive for Mattison from Baltimore.  Maybe Ray-Ray can drop him at Blake's place.

01/18/2011 - 10:18am Siamese Twins?

Or simply separated at birth?

01/16/2011 - 12:09pm No, It Doesn't

But neither does 90% of the other conjecture on the boards.  I am simply curious to hear other opinions.

If you don't care then why waste your keystrokes?

01/16/2011 - 11:50am Trgs

I think it could be Trgovac too; he has been busy with the playoffs, which might be the reason for the delay. The fact that he and Hoke both have expertise with DL could only be a good thing based on our recent performance (The Hulk excluded).  Besides, I hear Brady is going to be pretty busy anyway.

I am anti Randy Shannon as we all know as soon as he sniffs another HC opportunity he is gone and then we're starting all over again.

If not Trgovac, I would probably prefer Heater or Austin over Bedford.  Or how about a package that includes all three with round-robin scheme calling responsibilities?

01/14/2011 - 1:04am Channel 4 News Exclusive

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

01/13/2011 - 11:44pm Arnett

Like Magnus and others have started, I don't want Arnett.  He seems like too much of a prima donna.

01/13/2011 - 11:42pm Expectations Simplfied

This year, low.  Next year, high.

01/12/2011 - 10:24pm Da Remix

We should do a remix to "I Am a Real American" for Hokeamania, "I Am a Real Michigan Man."  It should feature a freestyle from none other than Coner himself.

12/30/2010 - 3:35pm The Answer is Yes--And Also No

If he starts defeating our rivals and winning championships, then yes. Anything short of that is a no, RR or Michigan Man.

If he starts defeating our rivals and winning championships, then yes. Anything short of that is a no, RR or Michigan Man.

12/30/2010 - 3:31pm My Biggest Concerns for the Game

Are as follows:
1. Running out of beer
2. Running out of seven-layer dip
3. GERG has a bad hair day--and forgot to pack a hat
4. Pam Ward is somehow involved with the telecast, even if it's just as key grip
5. We lose the game

12/29/2010 - 11:37am Jump to Conclusions

Before we start hailing Dave Brandon as either messiah or clown, how about we wait to see how the outcome plays out.  While I understand the frustration of both factions, it's rare to have this much success in life (turnaround Dominos as CEO, very aggressive already as UM AD) by being a complete idiot.  Besides, he is a Michigan Man.

12/29/2010 - 11:30am I'm Not Worried

Harbaugh will flip him back Blue

12/12/2010 - 8:51pm BTW...

...I was being sarcastic about English as DC

12/12/2010 - 11:22am Ron English

I'll take Ron English's defenses back any day.  With that, let's go ahead and throw his name in the ring as the next DC.

11/29/2010 - 10:30pm Wrap It Up

I love Cam and his potential at LB, but he needs to seriously work on his tackling (which, of course, could be said about everyone on our D except Martin and Demens). He too consistently went for the big hit as opposed to actually wrapping up the tackle, leading to unnecessary big plays.

11/10/2010 - 10:42pm Reese Dismukes...

...Has the white man equivalent of dreads.  Reese, come on down...

10/23/2010 - 10:10am What If...

...We just leave the offense on the field for all 60 minutes.  They don't even break a sweat on their own drives anyway.

Can they do any worse than the Defense?

10/02/2010 - 7:47pm Mike Martin 4 Heisman

He is such a damn beast.  Admirable effort by the defensive front, adequate at best from the rest of the backfield.  I hope defensive recruits are licking their chops.

I want GERG fired though.  I think his reputation is overrated, and I remember as a KC Chiefs fan just how bad he was in his last pro job.  While the defensive depth is thin and experience is low, I am convinced almost anyone else could produce better results.

I wish the offense possessed the ball more/longer, but how can you complain about consistent big plays.

09/19/2010 - 11:23am Ditto

It's time for the changing of the guard.  Lewan looked like Jake Long out there yesterday.

09/13/2010 - 9:43pm Brendan Gibbons

Gibbons will likely be fine.  Most acclaimed kicking recruits start slow and don't emerge until their second or third year.  Garrett Rivas kind of sucked until later on in his career.

09/08/2010 - 1:58pm Arrivaderci

Sorry to see Vlad go as for whatever reason he was one recruit I thought would blossom at UM once healthy.  I know one of the coaches at Wisconsin who had echoed those sentiments as they apparently were very disappointed to lose out on his commitment.

I wish him well though as he seemed to be a class act.

09/07/2010 - 12:52pm Mushnick = Rosenberg

Phil Mushnick is Mike Rosenberg's alias; he started writing for the Post as well to spread his agenda of slanderous lies

08/21/2010 - 8:43pm Woody vs. Mariotti

I agree Woody is incredibly annoying, although some of the musings on his chalkboard during the show make me laugh.

I've met Mariotti before in Chicago and he is every bit the deusch he appears to be on TV.

08/13/2010 - 12:10am Timmy's Thrive at UofM

He should go with Tshimanga for short

08/13/2010 - 12:07am Maybe He Needed "Family Values"

Or maybe JT Turner was pissed that he could not be the only JT in the secondary, let alone the one highest on the depth chart.  I always thought he was better when he was Justin.

I'm sad to see a talented player not reach his potential with UofM, but it sounds like in this case he did not want it bad enough.  Aloha means goodbye.

08/10/2010 - 10:09pm Yes

And call it @sh*ttheknowledgesays.  You are Nostradamus, but with more compelling sentence structure and type formatting.  It's like EE Cummings and Carnac the Magnificent had a baby.

08/10/2010 - 10:03pm I Think You Meant to Say

Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

08/10/2010 - 4:15pm Much Ado About Nothing

Who cares about Andre Ware.  What does Pam Ward think?

05/21/2010 - 9:42am Or

Larry the Cable Guy and Sean Connery had a baby

Player: "One more set coach?"

Buddy:  "Get er done boys."

05/14/2010 - 10:01am Sweet Sorrow As a Royals fan it is a sad day in a life filled with many sad days. I was incredibly bullish on Hillman when he was hired and felt good about progress at the end of his first year. But, the team has reverted since, and injuries cannot explain everything, it was time for change, and Dayton Moore isn't going anywhere. I just wish Trey the best and hope that Ned Yost is simply interim for the remainder of the year.
04/05/2010 - 8:07pm Is It Just Me...

...Or does it seem like our injury woes have only worsened over the past couple years? I am a huge Barwis fan, but I thought one of his main mantras was injury prevention. Sucks to seemingly be victims of circumstance.

Good luck, Will, on a full and speedy recovery.

03/21/2010 - 6:50pm NFZ T-Shirts

We need to get started on printing No Fly Zone T-Shirts.

02/24/2010 - 12:06pm I Agree

Sports radio--and apparently the Free Press--is all about taking a strong, contrarian view in the interest of creating buzz and viewership. Since radio and newspaper audience are both in decline, the desperation to make waves grows.

If there is one thing I have been disappointed in the past couple years (particularly the local media) it's the lack of patience or perspective. Sure, I too have been incredibly disappointed in the football team's performance and think that the coaching staff has made its' share of mistakes. But any meaningful change takes time and involves pain. I loved Lloyd and will always appreciate what he brought to the program, but agreed that we needed some outside blood for a change. I'm not convinced even if Les Miles had rode in on his white horse that it would not have meant simply a continuation of Lloyd's last couple years: talented teams who ultimately disappointed.
