Easily my favorite - its smooth, not too smoky, and usually runs around $50-$60 a bottle.

11/12/2015 - 10:44am How about

"Smoke" and "Mirrors" for a little self deprecation

11/05/2015 - 12:45pm I get that

In my opinion going for two to get a margin that is a full score or two (3, 7, 10, 14) is valuable no matter when you do it, but I see your point as well.  I don't understand how so many coaches are so dumb when it comes to clock management, game theory type stuff.

11/05/2015 - 12:32pm Something dumb from Saturday

I just noticed while watching the replay of last Saturday's game (cause Halloween and drinking and stuff), but when Minnesota scored a TD in the 3rd quarter to make the score 22-21 they kicked the XP to make it 23-21.  I don't understand why they didn't go for 2 there.  I thought "up by 1, go for 2" was coaching gospel.  Obviously it made a difference at the end.  Even if they had whiffed the 2 pointer, its 25-21 Minnesota when Michigan scores their TD, and Michigan's XP would make it a 3 point game.  Get that 2 points, and Michigan most likely still just kicks an XP after their TD to take a 1 pt lead, allowing Minnesota to attempt to win the game with a FG late.  Hindsight, I know, but I'm just kind of baffled.

That Hail Mary gutted me for a while.  In a weird way I think that helped solidify my fandom, I was 16 at the time

11/20/2012 - 11:00am Future playoff implications

I think the big push towards 4 super conferences of 16 teams each is that it allows for the expansion of the playoff while still calling it a 4 team playoff.  If the 4 super conference champs are automatic bids, then really it's an 8 team playoff as all conf. championship game participants have a chance.  And if divisional championship games are implemented to determine the champs of the 8 team divisions, then it's a 16 team playoff.  But since the rounds of 16 and 8 will be interconference, it can still be claimed by whomever as being a 4 team national playoff.

At least, this is where I see the future of college football.

10/16/2012 - 3:43pm Reading Fail

I read the title as "Unverified Voracity Brings Back Dumb Pants."  I was halfway through the thing before I realized there were no Michigan Zubaz pants.  And, yes, I owned a pair in junior high.

08/30/2012 - 5:49pm Hoping so

I would love to go back to the days of UM playing better non-cons.  I can remember days of playing ND and sometimes 2 other teams from big conferences.  Seeing ND and 3 body bag games gets kind of boring.  The only thing that sucks is when you sign a deal with a team so far out in the future, and then 8 years later when the game actually rolls around they stink.  I guess you could stick to playing only truly elite programs, something Ohio has actually done pretty well when you consider their home and homes with USC, Texas, Miami (YTM), and Virginia Tech and Oklahoma in future years.  However, we are all too familiar that even that can go wrong (see Mich 2008-2010, Oklahoma 1994-1999, Texas in 2010, Ohio last year, et al.)

07/19/2012 - 12:30pm End of the Sugar bowl

Obviously all of the runs and touchdowns and such are fantastic, but I think my favorite part of that video is Denard running around with such pure unadulterated joy after the Sugar Bowl win.  Not only is he an incredible player, the likes of which we may never see again in a winged helmet, but his joy and love for football, his university, and his teammates is what makes me proud that he plays for Michigan.

07/06/2012 - 1:07pm Nashville can't trade Weber

Under the current CBA, if a team signs one of their own RFAs, they can't trade him the following year.  That's what makes this such a dilemma for Nashville.  If a team like Detroit could get him to agree to a 1 year offer sheet, Nashville could match, but he still would become a UFA at the end of next season.  Therefore, they would again be stuck with a guy who could leave in the offseason but they couldn't deal him.  However, they really can't let him leave seeing as they already lost a top 2 D-man.  They would get picks in return, but that wouldn't help now.

I would love to see Detroit sign him to an offer sheet and force Nashville's hand

02/28/2012 - 11:15am Also going to the game

Add one more to the count of folks headed to the game tonight.  Even though its kind of a chain, the Boston's Pizza on Nationwide across the street from the rink runs good game day specials.  I think its $2 domestics and $1 slices of pizza, something like that.  And echoing others, R Bar is a hockey bar; its a great place to go after the game as they will have other games on about 10 TV's.

Another bar that I have been known to frequent is Novak's on High.  Its right behind the North Market parking lot, about 2 blocks from the rink.  Just a good dive bar.

Enjoy yourself, and Go Wings!!

02/21/2012 - 1:39pm Mmmm...Myles...

As a BG alum I realize I may be a bit biased, but you must try Myles Pizza.  I bring one home with me anytime I get back up in that area.  They are loaded with toppings, and if you choose to go gallavanting around town after the game, they are open late.  I cannot stress enough how perfect Myles is after a full night of adult beverages.

If you choose the Polleye's route, get the stuffed breadsticks.  Dough is made fresh and they are made to order.

This concludes your tour of my way too unhealthy BG food joints.  Enjoy!!

11/18/2011 - 3:52pm 1995-2002

Red Wings - Avalance was close to the best in all of sports for a stretch in the mid- to late-Nineties.  After the March 26, 1996 game and Detroit beating them in that season's playoffs, their regular season games were events not to be missed.  The rivalry petered out rather quickly, but was huge not only in the hockey world but was front page material in its heyday.

11/18/2011 - 12:47pm Naming said analysis

What about "A Beilein to the Truth" - you know, as it would presumably take one directly to what transpired during the game.  Like a beeline.  It's a pun.  Not sure if there are issues with using a coach's name or not.  Plus its easily abbreviated as BTTT.

11/16/2011 - 11:40am Michigan Fans of Columbus

There is a Michigan Fans of Columbus that watches games at Skybox Sports Bar near Polaris.  I've never gone but I get their messages on Facebook all the time:

Skybox Sports Bar

10/13/2011 - 1:20pm Agreed

I have found the same thing - that friends and acquaintances that are OSU alums are pretty salty, and are glad they canned Tressel.  Most are also to the point that they don't understand how players continue to be stupid enough to do shady things, and are wondering who (if anybody) is minding the store.  I have quite a few tell me that they are already resigned to the fact that they will be taking a backseat to Michigan this upcoming decade.

On the other hand, its the uneducated ding dongs who continue to say that it happens everywhere, and that Tressel was a great man, and that Mike Vrabel will be that best DC EVAR.  It's those folks that make me throw up in my mouth a little bit after about 16 seconds of listening to them.

08/07/2011 - 12:47am Agreed

BG is unparalleled in hockey when compared to other public schools in Ohio

07/16/2011 - 12:11am Littering, and?

Littering, and? Littering, and? Littering, and?

06/14/2011 - 12:11pm Great event

My brother played in this outing with Stokes and Hemingway. He said he had a great time. Unfortunately I had a commitment I couldn't break, but I'm glad he got a chance to play and show support for U of M and the Mealers.

05/19/2011 - 6:01pm What an idiot

Best part about it was he essentially caused the loss, as once Sorgi was out the D was selling out to stop the run, opening up the bomb thrown by the backup for the winning score.

05/13/2011 - 3:04pm Gnetleman's Agreement

There was supposedly a gentleman's agreement when the NHL realigned and Toronto moved to the East that should another team be moved from the East to the West that it would be Detroit.  The Wings would LEAP at the chance to get to the East, purely for the travel issues.  Not to mention, with a veteran (older) team (which might not always be the case), the West Coast travel is a killer.  Eliminating this would be an enormous help to them in deep playoff runs.

03/01/2011 - 11:45pm The irony

TO was a gut punch but Webber travelled when he took the inbounds pass too. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

02/17/2011 - 1:17pm UFRs

I love being able to see what happens with individual players on a play by play basis. Oh, and Muppets. Gotta have Muppets

01/21/2011 - 12:15pm And...

He's like Tom Brady but handsome

01/19/2011 - 5:16pm Contradictions

What has never made sense to me is that a school can pay for a player's meals, even give him $ to spend when a recruit is in town, but a coach having a guy over for dinner is an issue.  How is that an extra benefit?

01/14/2011 - 3:55pm Well...

Did he also answer each question by saying "well"

01/14/2011 - 1:57pm Fred Jackson

started the Big Bang.

01/12/2011 - 7:40pm Couple others

John Kolesar and Aaron Shea as well.

01/12/2011 - 1:18pm I've never seen him talk before

But I would run through a wall right now for this guy.  September can't come soon enough!

GO BLUE!

01/07/2011 - 12:09pm Not that far fetched

Its not entirely uncommon to see co-ordinators leave one school to take an HC job, then return to their former school as HC

01/07/2011 - 11:59am Haiku

Coachless we wander

And think what are we to do?

Football's lost it's fun

12/29/2010 - 1:15pm Brain Kelly - Notre Dame Head Coach

"No, my name is Brian, but this is my Brain"

12/28/2010 - 5:54pm Agreed

That episode has three of my favorite quotes, all courtesy of Homer J:

When he is asked if he is wearing a paper bag for pants - "I have misplaced...my pants"

Sitting at home alone on the couch -  "Bart?  Where are you?  Your dinner's getting cold...and eaten"

When Bart's job is espoused as a way to keep kids off drugs as he catches a glimps of the show - "Oh yeah, drugs...gotta have drugs"

One of my all time favorite episodes

12/10/2010 - 5:44pm Physical play

It is harder to set up a forecheck, and WAY harder to be physical on dump-ins because there is so much more ground to cover.  A game on an Olympic sheet is typically less physical overall than on an NHL sheet.

12/09/2010 - 12:26pm Srsly

He needs our help to get that closer to 95%

12/09/2010 - 10:43am Never

I don't trust dudes wearing tunics

12/08/2010 - 6:31pm Hee hee

The royal smugness of the "leader" is what always makes me giggle.  The South Park episode lampooning WoW did a great job capturing that

12/07/2010 - 12:43pm 1992 Green Bay Staff

I've always been impressed by Mike Holmgren's 1992 Green Bay staff - some good (and mediocre) future head coaches on that staff:  Steve Mariucci, Jon Gruden, Andy Reid, Ray Rhodes, and Dick Jauron all went on to be head coaches.  I guess you could always link them all the way back to Bill Walsh as well.  Plus the picture is awesome...

12/06/2010 - 1:00pm Silver shoes

The all white ones are actually silver.  I kind of like that.  I thought their look on Saturday was pretty sweet with the grey pants, white jersey and carbon looking helmet

12/06/2010 - 11:15am Fiesta Bowl is lame

I was really hoping OU would get Stanford in the Fiesta, that way I could have totally written off the Va Tech and the Orange and not watched it.  Stanford Oklahoma would have been an interesting match up of old school offense versus a more spread type attack.  Oh, well, at least this will be the first time in quite a while that I pay attention to the Gator Bowl

12/03/2010 - 5:59pm Hockey game at 9:00

But then Great Lakes Christmas Ale(s) with the boys after our tilt

12/03/2010 - 4:34pm Hah!

Did they also see Ferris pass out at 31 flavors last night?

12/03/2010 - 12:50pm It was a cereal on SNL

called "Colon Blow".  Also had a "Super Colon Blow".  I remember the pyramid of cereal bowls depicting how much bran cereal one would have to eat to equal one bowl of Colon Blow.  Yet I can't remember what I ate for lunch yesterday.  Stupid brain

11/22/2010 - 3:15pm I hate them

A former college roommate of mine showed up to my house last year with an OSU shirt that honored the 2006 "Undefeated Year".  Year, not Season, but whatever, only that school could produce a shirt commemorating something that didn't actually happen

11/22/2010 - 11:39am That always kills me

I just love the looks on their faces when I then ask, "Remembr the 90's?"

11/19/2010 - 5:06pm As we used to play

Its 2 completions for a 1st down, right?

11/19/2010 - 12:59pm I agree with the outside arm thing

But I read a scouting report and I don't remember where I read it (somewhere on this board perhaps), that Denard carries the ball almost exclusively in his left (non-throwing) hand.  This can (and has) lead to fumbles, but also limits his ability to make things happen on the move, because on a drop back, he switches hands to tuck and run, and then must switch back again to throw.  I hope this changes over the offseason, it could really make a difference in fewer TO's and in his ability to make defenses look even more stupid

11/19/2010 - 12:50pm Its stories like this

that will make a W in Cbus that much more rewarding.  You can't deny that that team has been the class of the B10 on the field, and beating them will signal everybody that we are on our way back.  All titles will run through Ann Arbor from then on

11/19/2010 - 10:50am Money line

The money line is the same "Handicap" idea, again with the goal to get equal money on both teams.  Instead of giving up points to bet the favorite, you give up money.  If the money line is Wisc - 180, you would have to bet $180 to win $100.  Conversely the underdog (Michigan) may be + 140, meaning by betting $100 you would win $140.  But both of these bets are STRAIGHT UP, with no points given of received

11/18/2010 - 4:39pm Lock 'em up

Hopefully they have all of the fighters locked up, lots of opportunities for a Sparty planejacking
