Are people really clamoring for a "reunion" of a team that led to massive sanctions and didn't win Michigan anything of note along the way?  And it would just be a self-serving couple of guys trying to white wash the past.

The Fab 5 was awesome on the court and screwed over Michigan for over a decade.  Yes other guys were cheating, but Michigan was dumb/unlucky enough to be caught rather flagrantly, and they were punished.  Why anyone wants to relive that is beyond me.

06/19/2018 - 10:42pm Welcome aboard Kalil. …

Welcome aboard Kalil.  Hopefully just the beginning.

06/19/2018 - 12:52pm I mean, it's been his…

I mean, it's been his backfield for two years now and yet he keeps losing it to fumbles, a series for being an idiot with his driver's license, and generally not being as good as people think he is.

06/19/2018 - 12:51pm I'm going to assume...you…

I'm going to assume...you know what, this was just a dumb statement and we should all just move on from it.

06/19/2018 - 12:01pm I like Higdon and think he…

I like Higdon and think he'll have a really good season this year, but he did pick up about 2/3 of his yards last year against IU, Minny, and Rutgers.  His biggest hurdle has been consistently generating big plays, and so it'll be interesting if he can do so this year behind, one hopes, a better offensive line with a better passing game.

06/18/2018 - 8:14pm Well, we all said we wanted…

Well, we all said we wanted Michigan hockey to get back to the way it was during the heyday, and losing highly-regarded players in the middle of the summer certainly feels like old times.

06/18/2018 - 8:13pm I found it amusing that the…

I found it amusing that the article also mentioned Warrne joining an interesting list of players who previously were favored to go to MSU, thought apparently not interesting enough to provide even a sprinkling of that list.

Ah well, glad to see he's excited about Michigan.

06/17/2018 - 9:25am Good luck to him.  Always…

Good luck to him.  Always felt like a tenuous commit when it was made.

I will say, though, that Michigan has largely been on the short end of these multi-school commitment guys, and more times than not it's worked out for everyone involved fine.

06/17/2018 - 9:24am Absolutely true.  I did read…

Absolutely true.  I did read a couple of people comment when this came out who were legitimately concerned about their defensive line depth, though.  You tend to rotate a lot more on the line than at linebackers, so even having guys who can technically slot in means you have to rotate in other guys down the line you may not want to.

Their incredibly easy schedule will help somewhat, but this is still a big loss for them.

06/17/2018 - 9:22am Why am I not surprised that…

Why am I not surprised that the retraction/correction DIDN'T come from the useless troll who started it and then didn't spend a damn minute confirming.

Yes, he never planned an official, and because places like 247 don't feel it worthwhile to confirm about their stuff, they instead post a click-baity "correction" to a mistake they created.

I say all the time that I should stop following recruiting because it is just weird getting worked up over what high-schoolers may or may not do, and yet I get sucked into every dumb thread.

06/16/2018 - 11:48pm Also, and I don't know why I…

Also, and I don't know why I even care, but apparently he never had an official set up anyway.  He may well not come to Michigan, but this seems as much 247 being wrong about something and then a bunch of people not admitting they were wrong and instead going with the "let's drive some clicks with a salty headline" type of reporting.

06/16/2018 - 11:45pm Man, I wish we had post…

Man, I wish we had post downvotes back just so these shitposts could be driven back into the grease-stained hell they were spawn from.

06/16/2018 - 2:26pm I think the site is under…

I think the site is under construction still as they work some kinks out, but assuming that nobody cares because there isn't a post every day about site improvements also doesn't seem all that helpful.

06/16/2018 - 2:21pm I've never been particularly…

I've never been particularly crazy about the redesign, but this site never gets much traffic during the off-season so I'm not all that surprised.

The issues will be ironed out; it might just take some time.

06/15/2018 - 2:57pm It's funny how a day ago…

It's funny how a day ago everyone was freaking out about Michigan losing a number of close battles, then a day later they basically run the table.  It's totally how this game of Risk would play out; now it's just going to be manifest destiny to July.

Let's keep the momentum going.

06/15/2018 - 2:54pm I mean, good they are…

I mean, good they are calling for his firing now.  But at no point did this asshole make a lick of sense trying to handle this situation.  So I'm a little dubious that any of these people care all that much about the victims and are instead past the point of a number of lawsuits and figure he's soaked up all the shitty PR he could.

As always, MSU should be burned to the ground and started over with a new board and administration; glomming onto Engler when they most needed to clean up their culture showed me how little they cared about actually making changes.

06/14/2018 - 8:31pm Apparently, enough to beat…

Apparently, enough to beat OSU.

06/14/2018 - 4:46pm Unless he's bad, it just…

Unless he's bad, it just means Michigan maybe found a diamond in the rough.  Or it's an attempt to motivate other people on the roster.  I don't know, but possibly having another RB who is better than some guys who look pretty good as well is a win in my book.

06/14/2018 - 2:16pm You mean the Washington head…

You mean the Washington head coach who is one year younger than Harbaugh?  Because a 63-year-old HC doesn't seem like a great move.

I assume you mean someone else.

06/14/2018 - 2:14pm Yeah.  This team could win…

Yeah.  This team could win 11 games and if it wasn't the "right" 11 wins they'd freak out.

06/14/2018 - 2:06pm So it's a failure of a…

So it's a failure of a season, in year 4, but you're fine giving him some more time to...do what, exactly?  Do you think he'd suddenly get better in year 5, with another round of lazy writers concern trolling about his coaching abilities and nameless commenters calling him a "failure"?

Hyperbole is fine in doses, but threads like these bring it out in buckets and it just douses every comment and waits for the hot takes to set it aflame.

06/14/2018 - 2:00pm They also went 4-0 in one…

They also went 4-0 in one-score games last year and had good turnover luck.  To me, they are a bit like MSU in that they should be tough but they won a lot of toss-up games last year and that doesn't always translate over seasons.

06/14/2018 - 1:06pm Sounds about right.  I…

Sounds about right.  I assume this doesn't include bow games.

06/14/2018 - 7:36am Yeah, that's always been my…

Yeah, that's always been my take as well.  There have been coaching issues undoubtedly, but it seems like Michigan has also just had some bad luck in terms of recruiting these past couple of years, especially since they've gone through a couple of offensive line coaches in that time who weren't complete idiots.

Like a lot of things with this team, some of their injuries are self-inflicted but a bunch also just feel like aberrations that you hope correct themselves over a longer period of time.

06/13/2018 - 6:55pm Yeah, I'd like to know as…

Yeah, I'd like to know as well.  I got into engineering when I applied and I can't imagine I'd have been even on the wait list now.

06/13/2018 - 4:27pm That sucks.  I hope he…

That sucks.  I hope he recovers and gets a chance to show what he can do somewhere.

06/13/2018 - 4:27pm That application number must…

That application number must have been goosed by the common application form.  It's been nearly two decades since I applied to Michigan, but I remember it being made crystal clear that you had to use their own forms to apply.

06/13/2018 - 1:31pm I forgot they upped him a…

I forgot they upped him a little early, but I can see the argument that the guy just hit for the Triple Crown and you don't want to necessarily tell him "we'll pay you later."  And yeah, that contract will be a drain, but I'm sure if Detroit wants to spend in a couple of years they'll just do it, correctly assuming that a better team will fill that stadium up and raise overall revenue.  What I could see happen, though, is they just fart along for 4-5 years and Cabrera keeps sorta-playing himself into the lineup before getting hurt again.

I agree they gotta get some power in that lineup.  Victor is a black hole as well.  My guess is you see guys like Stewart up by the end of the year, though he's doing pretty well in Toledo and they not want to lose a year of control in a lost season.

06/13/2018 - 1:23pm I've been a loud proponent…

I've been a loud proponent of the old site for a long time.  This page needs to be cleaned up somewhat (especially the copious amount of wasted space), but it's here to stay so might as well get used to it.

06/13/2018 - 1:22pm This feels a bit like a late…

This feels a bit like a late-season callup in baseball, which has some strategic value especially late.  It'll be interesting to see how many coaches take advantage of it, since it would (likely) require some roster maintenance late in the year.

06/13/2018 - 9:48am The homers being down has…

The homers being down has been a trend for a bit, but the doubles were at a decent pace.  He is never going to be worth the money they are paying him, but 300/400/450 aren't the black hole you see with some of the other aging sluiggers.  It was always a bad contract, but he was coming of an MVP year and they had a window for a title.  I don't blame them for paying him what the market demanded.

06/13/2018 - 9:38am Nope, just you.

06/13/2018 - 8:27am With Pujols too, it seems to…

With Pujols too, it seems to be known that he liked about his age as well, so he's even further past his prime than the guy they thought they signed.

I don't mind guys getting paid.  Unlike the other major sports, baseball teams can basically spend what they want without limitation, and so you wind up getting this weird massive contracts because there isn't as much a ceiling on offers to elite talent.  And while not a star anymore, he was having a nice little bounceback this year.  He's not going to age well with this contract, but I could see a contender in a year or two trading for him (if the Tigers eat a bunch of his contract) at the deadline to shore up an injury spot.

06/13/2018 - 8:21am They're going to have to…

They're going to have to ride out his contract regardless, so if there is a silver lining maybe this helps get some of the younger guys some at bats.  And he's been having a fine year.  He's not a superstar anymore, but compared to guys like Pujols and Felix Hernandez at least he wasn't a black hole on the team.

06/13/2018 - 8:08am That was my read too.  Like,…

That was my read too.  Like, if he makes the roster maybe there is a scholarship for him.  But I guess of you assume you'll have a spot and it's only a 1-year commitment, it's not the worst.  I do wonder what this means for the roster going forward, since that's a buttload of QBs and not a pair of established tackles in the bunch.

Oh great, MSU is trying to play Risk in real life again.

06/12/2018 - 9:57am We have unleashed the…

We have unleashed the Michigan Click-on-a-button-to-click-another-button-to-play-u-boardgame Cannon, to great effect.

06/11/2018 - 5:04pm Yeah.  Again, not trying to…

Yeah.  Again, not trying to concern troll and I'm absolutely a hypocrite about this stuff at times, but I want football you be as safe as possible for the players and I hope he really is just a fun guy and not a manfiestation of some issues.

06/11/2018 - 2:47pm I am very excited about the…

I am very excited about the fullback position, but I'll be honest that when I hear people describe guys in that way (a little off) a small piece of me worries that what we know about CTE and the various other mental injuries someone can suffer while playing football manifests in these ways and we are sort of ignoring them as warning signs.  Again, not saying that's the case here, but I still remember Hoke (?) saying something like "we like to graduate fullbacks who are a couple inches shorter than when they came in as freshmen" and part of me cringes.

06/10/2018 - 1:30pm Knuth's Art of Computer…

Knuth's Art of Computer Programming is pretty good as well.

Though I say this as someone who, despite having an MS in Computer Engineering hates all discussion of algorithms, don't sweat trying to get ahead of your classes.  You'll learn what you need to by doing, and frankly the people I've worked with who hyper-focus on pre-optimizations of their code and try to rewrite a labguage's red-black tree data structure because it's "too slow" tend to get themselves into trouble.  Enjoy your summer, do some light reading, and if you really want to get better at your developer skills sign up for something like Kaggle or TopCoder and at least work on some semi-realistic problems.

Good luck.

06/10/2018 - 1:23pm Oh also, because stupid…

Oh also, because stupid people are born every day, don't tweet shit at high school kids who don't come to the college team you root for.

06/09/2018 - 10:34pm The apps were much better…

The apps were much better experience for me, but the mobile experience in browser wasn't great for a lot of people, and maintaining effectively two versions of the site wasn't all that efficient.  So I get the move.  But this particular design is just...it's not great.

06/09/2018 - 1:42pm Editing posts would be nice…
  1. Editing posts would be nice.
  2. Restricting images to those uploaded to the site seems needlessly complicated; you aren't likely to have too many externally-hosted images disappear on you, and having to re-upload them seems like a big waste of time and cost/space for MGoBlog.
  3. There is a LOT of wasted space in the comments.  Even on high-density screens, you only see 6-8 comments per page.  It makes following conversations more difficult.
  4. In that same vein, putting threads closer together would be great.  After you go 2-3 layers down, it's hard to follow the conversation.
  5. Show total votes, not net.

The site is an improvement in some ways, but I was always someone who liked the older design and was worried a new layout would lead to a lot of web 3.0 decisions that make it a tad nicer on mobile at the expense of weaker overall experience.

06/09/2018 - 1:37pm About expected in terms of…

About expected in terms of analysis and outcome.  Patterson is a talented-if-flawed player who should flourish at Michigan, just perhaps not immediately.  I do think we see Peters this year and he'll be effective as well.  I know the SC game left a bad taste in people's mouth, but he only started and finished 1 of their 5 losses last year; they were absolutely in that game against Wisconsin when he got hurt, and other than PSU I think him replacing O'Korn gives Michigan a better-than-50% chance of winning those games.

I'm happy Patterson is here because he's a talented player and gives Michigan another good option at QB.  But all Michigan really needed last year to win 10+ games was competency at QB, and the same applies this year.  Both Peters and Patterson provide that.

06/09/2018 - 1:10pm The fact that this comes a…

The fact that this comes a year after four of their players were kicked off the team for sexually assaulting a student and the whole Larry Nassar fallout, and they still think it's relevant to put the UM-MSU score on their rings is hilarious.  I know I'm supposed to hate ND and OSU as much, but my distaste for MSU burns a billion times hotter than towards any other of those programs.

06/09/2018 - 1:07pm It always seemed like a…

It always seemed like a weird commitment.  I'm sure Michigan will pull in someone else to replace him.  Wish him luck at YTM.

If anyrhing, Meyer is a slacker for waiting to offer until HS.  Ole Lane Kffin used to offer 7th graders all the time.

06/09/2018 - 8:26am Boston remains an intriguing…

Boston remains an intriguing team regardless of whether or not LeBron signed there.  But yeah, if James goes West there isn't much drama come finals time.

That said, I also don't see any other team that appealing out East except Boston.  Maybe Philly, but that doesn't seem like the best organization right now and the pieces don't seem like a great fit.  Maybe Indy, if he thinks Oladipo is ascendant and wants to stay close to home?  But other than those 3 (and I don't know Indy's cap situation, but I assume they have the space), that's it.

06/09/2018 - 8:06am At this point, people who…

At this point, people who dislike LeBron won't like him any more if he left for somewhere else (hell, people keep citing The Decision as something we should hold against him, as if superstars didn't congregate on teams before or since), and the rest of us are tired of seeing him toil away in Cleveland and would rather see him get chances to be great on teams that aren't shit.

06/09/2018 - 8:03am I think the Warriors before…

I think the Warriors before KD were a great sign of smart drafting, good luck, and great coaching.  But then the one-year jump in the salary cap created this artificial situation that otherwise could not be replicated every again and created a huge imbalance, and that made the context around the team, if not so much the team, less desirable.

Also, Draymond Green in a huge asshole and him having as many titles as LeBron James infuriates me.
