|02/08/2012 - 11:19pm||Putting up a link to the "commitment posts" is a great idea.||
It would help learn about the recruits.
|01/20/2012 - 12:28pm||Darryl Stonum...||
...was forced to sit out a year and lost his scholarship.
I wouldn't call that avoiding punishment.
|01/17/2012 - 12:05pm||There must be an Arizona blog...||
...somewhere that those who want to follow that teams recruiting can join.
I wish him, and them, a world of success, (unless they get into a game against Michigan).
But, that ship has sailed and threads such as this one are a waste just asking to be critized for existing.
We don't need to get RR's recruiting info on a Michigan blog.
|01/10/2012 - 10:37pm||Well. I've been proven wrong several times this year...||
I thought we would be doing good if we were able to get to 8-4 this season. I thought Ohio, Nebraska, Iowa and either Notre Dame or lil bro would hand us the four losses.
I thought changing coaches was going to net us no gain. Putting the players through another coaching change looked like a bad idea. It looked like we would be starting on yet another four year plan to bring in kids for a new system and teach them how it runs.
I thought giving up on RR for Brady Hoke was a bad deal. BH has shown he is an outstanding coach and a leader of men.
After the game with lil bro, I thought Denard's poor throwing would cost us more than his legs would gain us.
It has been nice to see what I thought didn't come true.
|11/30/2011 - 2:58pm||Over just 4 years...||
Over just 4 years that is pretty impressive.
Coach Hoke has proven to be an excellent choice for Michigan.
|11/25/2011 - 1:24pm||Curse you, Bobby Digital...||
... because you destroyed my Sarcasm Meter. Now the needle is permanently welded down from the force at which it slammed to the right.
It was a damn fine sarcasm meter. Now it is ruined.
|11/17/2011 - 12:55pm||It will be a lot of fun...||
...to watch all these talented kids pushing each other for playing time.
Michigan looks to be becoming the new "Linebacker U".
|10/23/2011 - 7:30pm||He seems very athletic...||
55m hurdles - 7.76, set AAU Indoor National Record.
60m hurdles - 8.09, ranked in top ten in the country, indoor 2010
110m hurdles - 14.16, fastest freshman time run in the country.
Placed 3rd at MHSAA Outdoor State Championships. Highest place for freshman hurdler in Michigan ever
Setting an AAU Indoor National Record is quite an accomplishment.
|10/20/2011 - 2:20pm||Best wishes Tate||
Many of us hope you do well in all aspects of your life.
|10/18/2011 - 6:55pm||Intent to injure another player...||
People ought to be calling what happened what it actually was.
Forget the punch, that happens. For that, Gholston should have been ejected from the game, regardless of what might have been said to him that hurt his feelings.
Clearly, Gholston was intent on causing injuries.
Not once, but repeatedly;
1- Coming into a pile knee first at Denard was an intent to do injury.
2- Twisting Denard's helmet was an intent to do injury.
3- Then, what was done to Taylor Lewan's arm was an intent to do injury.
Intent to cause injury ought to be taken as serious.
These are reasons enough that Gholston ought to be banned from playing sports at any school.
|10/18/2011 - 12:06pm||He oughta be called, "Lewan's bitch"...||
...from the way Taylor Lewan was tossing him around like a rag doll.
A point that keeps getting missed on the facemask twisting play against Denard is watch how he comes into the pile. He comes in with one knee aimed at Denard's ribs.
He is clearly attempting to break Denard's ribs, then he grabs the facemask and does the neck twist.
He should be banned from college football for either act.
|10/16/2011 - 8:35pm||It was great to see how Lewan manhandled Gholston||
Dirty Dantonio's crybaby Gholston got upset at being thrown into the dirt, where he belongs.
|10/16/2011 - 1:25pm||"Dirty Dantonio"||
He should be called that forever more.
Despite being an able coach, he simply lacks the class to run a program with integrity.
|10/16/2011 - 1:13pm||I would start Devin||
With Denard, the defense can move up to contain him and stop the run.
Once the run is stopped, Denard can't pass worth beans against good defenses.
His lack of passing skills is going to continue to cost our team wins against good defenses.
Denard has demonstarted he won't adjust to the mechanics he must adapt to be a better passer.
I would not put Denard in as a back or receiver. I would sit him on the bench as the best back-up quarterback available.
I think Devin's passing skills will back the defenses off, taking pressure off our offensive line, and let the running backs have better lanes.
|10/09/2011 - 3:25pm||I wouldn't venture to guess||
I was very skeptical about bringing a new coaching staff. Now, I am completely sold that Brady Hoke is the right man for the job.
The ability of Hoke and his staff to teach the players is a thing of beauty.
The overall lack of depth, and the youth of the defense still scares me.
Whether they can win them all, or will suffer a string of defeats, doesn't change the fact Brady Hoke and his staff are great for Michigan football.
|08/27/2011 - 10:15pm||Let the names be...||
While the current names don't strike me as being genius, I haven't heard any suggestion that is better than Legends and Leaders.
I agree with Delany that this is a conference of legends and leaders. What is it, four of the winningest programs in the history of college football all in one conference? That ought to be bragged about.
Legends and Leaders is a lot classier than East and West, or North and South, or Up and Down.
Lakes and Plains is simply lame. Only Iowa and Nebraska would be justified in being in the "Plains" division.
Whether it is Tressel with his lies, or Woody Hayes with his sucker punching an opposing athlete, any reference to TSIO would give the Big Ten a stench. We don't need that.
|08/22/2011 - 9:09pm||Best wishes to Tony||
We were very happy when he chose Michigan and we wish him the best in whatever he does.
A little video to remember his departure;
|08/02/2011 - 12:37am||What we have here...||
... is "Close Encounters of the "M" Kind".
|07/29/2011 - 11:55pm||Good to see you back, Denarded||
It is obvious you are happy to be back on with a real computer. You even posted early.
Great pics, as always. Thank you.
|06/30/2011 - 11:50pm||With Nebraska...||
With Nebraska joining, the Big Ten just gets better.
Now, we get a great school joining us and we get championship game.
|06/08/2011 - 5:05pm||Question...||
As I understand it, when teams from the Big 10 go to bowl games, the money they make gets shared with the other teams in the conference. Is this true? Will TSIO be cut out of the revenue sharing if they are banned from being in bowl games?
Will they be cut out of getting a share of the conference championship money?
It would be a shame to the rest of the teams in the conference if TSIO still was allowed to take a share of the income.
|06/07/2011 - 7:40pm||Our division||
Our division has Iowa, plus all the schools that start with "M", (Michigan, MSU, Minnesota), and "N", (Nebraska and Northwestern).
All of the other schools are in the other division.
|06/07/2011 - 7:23pm||Mattison's Maulers||
In a few years I'm sure we will be talking about "Mattison's Maulers". But, this next year we will still have a young group of DBs.
A big advantage from last year is that the defense spent so much time on the field, then got the extra 15 practices for the bowl game. That makes for nearly two years of experience compared to what they would have gotten on a strong defensive team.
I agree with those who think we will finish ranked about 60th in overall defense, maybe better.
Then next season, watch out. "Mattison's Maulers" will be running wild on opponents.
|05/10/2011 - 12:23am||Thanks Denarded. Another||
Thanks Denarded. Another great post. I look forward to seeing them every day.
How many days until training camp gets going? Does it start in July or August?
How many days until the class of 2012 signs their LOIs and makes us all wildly hopeful for the next four years?
|05/06/2011 - 7:39pm||If crime is such an issue...||
...we need to get rid of trains, planes, automobiles and all ships because all of them are used to transport criminals.
There is no point in using crime as an excuse to oppose a great transportation system.
on edit, we might as well get rid of horses and buggies also, for the same reason.
|05/06/2011 - 7:18pm||To really compare costs...||
...you need to include insurance costs, vehicle maintenance, the price of the vehicle,..etc.
Mass transsportation is less costly in general.
I've ridden around quite a bit of Europe on their rail and bus systems. They make it quick and easy to get around because they spent the time and money to make great systems.
|05/06/2011 - 6:48pm||All forms of transportation||
All forms of transportation get subsidized.
Roads are paid for through taxes.
Airlines count on publically funded airports, and on taxpayers picking up the costs of security. If airlines had to pay for all they use, they would be out of business in a minute. Only the richest people would be able to afford to fly without taxpayer subsidies.
|04/11/2011 - 12:12am||I was ready to head to bed half an hour ago...||
but decided to stay up and catch this, "There are..." post.
Thanks for the fine post.
I need a life. Does anyone have a decent one they aren't using?
|04/09/2011 - 11:16am||Last year...||
...the Defense spent almost as much time on the field as you would expect in two seasons of play.
I am hoping that ought to make last year's freshmen better experienced than you would normally expect for second year players.
|04/01/2011 - 2:46pm||This would be bad news if true.||
Already Troy is like an "Old Man" out there on the field playing with kids.
If he keeps getting injured like this he will qualify for Social Security before he graduates from University.
|03/29/2011 - 4:37pm||Thanks Bodogblog||
Thanks for the link and for your explanation.
As much as I have enjoyed watching football over the years, I've never played and don't know much of the technical stuff. Your help is appreciated.
I often use http://football.calsci.com/DefensiveLine.html to try to fill in some of the gaps in my knowledge.
|03/28/2011 - 12:05am||Thanks for your posts||
I like the addition of recognizing the latest Michigan Men coming to be part of the football team.
|01/25/2011 - 5:13pm||Any link?||
Does anyone have a link to watch?
|01/24/2011 - 10:23pm||What about Thomas Rawls?||
I wonder if this offer is in case Thomas Rawls doesn't have good enough grades to qualify?
|01/24/2011 - 10:42am||Another Michigan Man||
Once again, Hoke adds a coach who wants to be at Michigan so bad it is in his blood.
I am very impressed. It is great to see the people Hoke is selecting to coach the team.
|01/21/2011 - 3:36pm||What? Both of them???||
Then he will be completely bald.
|01/21/2011 - 1:59pm||Good idea||
By watching what the players did last year, Mattison will have a better idea what he needs to change from what the guys were taught these past couple of years.
When you can see what they have been taught, it is easier to make the changes needed.
|01/21/2011 - 1:54pm||Build the defense first||
The team needs to build the defense first, then worry more about bringing in offensive players next year.
Championships start with great defenses.
|01/20/2011 - 11:48pm||Thanks for sharing||
Every time I see someone say something nasty about any kid, no matter what their skill level is or what life has dealt them, (whether they play for Michigan or not), it ticks me off.
People of poor character should just shut the hell up if they can't be respectful.
We all have our issues.
|01/20/2011 - 11:41am||They got a commit from President Carter?||
Now the band is going to have to learn to play "Hail To The Chief" when the new President Carter goes on the field.
On another note; watching his game film, on Tamani Carter's run for the long TD return, who 1s that speedy guy who runs down the middle of the field and gives a block around the ten yard line? Somebody get that kids name and number. Man, that kid is fast. We need speed like that in our backfield.
|01/19/2011 - 11:20am||100 recruits for 85 spots on the team...||
Which guys are going to be among the 15 who get cut to trim the team from the 100 they sign up to the 85 they are allowed to play?
This is a question any guy joining an SEC team needs to think about.
|01/12/2011 - 10:23pm||Some are listed...||
Some are listed here, http://www.annarbor.com/sports/um-football/hoke-hire-sparks-michigan-fo…
Also there is a nice pic of the room where the meeting took place. I am surprised by the size of the room.
|01/08/2011 - 6:52pm||Talented recruits...||
It certainly helps a school have a winning program when the school, and/or coach, attracts highly talented recruits.
I took a look at the number of 4 and 5 start recruits that Michigan, Stanford, and San Diego State have signed up since 2006.
Changing from RR to JH would have been fairly comparable as far their records of attracting 4 and 5 star recruits. When looking at BH's record at San Diego State, it stands out to me that in these past few years not a single 4 or 5 star recruit has signed up to play at that school.
Do great coaches necessarily attract talented players regardless of school? Perhaps not.
Do coaches who are used to training 2 or 3 star players have a feel for what to expect from 4 or 5 star talent? Perhaps.
Is there a head coach available to Michigan who can attract 4 and 5 star recruits in the numbers we need, and has experience coaching kids at that level?
I hope DB pulls off a great move to get this team out of the mess we are in.
|01/03/2011 - 1:46pm||If JH goes to the NFL and they lock out the players...||
...JH very well might wind up coaching the new draftees from college, old guys who are past their prime, players who don't have enough talent to make the regular teams, and scabs.
There is a lot of money at stake in the NFL and it is obvious the owners don't like the percentages the players are earning.
Will NCAA football be the only football on TV come September? My guess is it will happen.
edit; it is obvious there is a better way to spell obvious
|01/01/2011 - 8:23pm||We need more recruits...||
We need to be able to recruit 100 kids, then screw 15 of them out of their scholarships the way the SEC does.
Or, we could do what we are doing and treat the kids with class.
|01/01/2011 - 1:42am||Hail to the Victors||
It has been a season of many challenges. The team has done a great job of making us proud.
|12/30/2010 - 10:52pm||Is RR snake bit or what?||
Does RR get his snake oil by tapping his own snake bit veins?
|12/30/2010 - 9:33pm||These seniors are truly Michigan Men.||
They have stuck with the team through some tough times.
Their committment has been outstanding.
Well done, gentlemen.
|12/30/2010 - 1:53pm||Michigan has a team of...||
smart gentlemen. It is a very nice bunch that brings pride to the school and themselves.
Whatever is said regarding the coaching staff, I would rather see this kind of team than a "Sabanized' team.
|12/30/2010 - 12:24pm||Jim Brandstatter in a Winter coat||
Jim Brandstatter is a big fellow. Seeing him in Florida wearing a Winter coat is a sure sign that the temps are a bit nippy down there.
