12/16/2009 - 12:58pm Look East or West

We don't need Pittsburgh because they don't have their own stadium and their market is already covered by Penn State. The rest of the Midwest is solidly Big 10 territory, so I say push East to Rutgers and lock up the largest media market in the United States. The other option could be a westward expansion to Nebraska since Missouri and Iowa State don't have the name recognition of the black shirts.
The arguments about travel and culture shock are moronic. Tucson is a billion miles, culturally and geographically, from Seattle but that hasn't hurt the Pac-10 one bit.

12/09/2009 - 3:59am There's more than one reason your blog sucks

1) Small font
2) Driveling, self-flagellating content
3) Malcolm Gladwell hard-on - Jesus, have you read another author? Why don't you have the man's baby?

12/09/2009 - 3:40am Speaking of "Blind Loyalists"...

...They're crawling all over this blog. I wrote a diary post that was critical of RR's table manners over the summer and was "negged into oblivion". At some point, Brian Cook washed his hands of me and saw fit to disable my ability to add new posts because of my negative point total. If you're seeking a free and open exchange of ideas (something I was encouraged to do as an LS&A student), go elsewhere. If you're looking for hockey news, monotone podcasts and sycophantic updates that spin the latest 2-star signing in a positive light, then you've come to the right place!

12/09/2009 - 3:22am Careful Zone Left, You'll Get "Negged Into Oblivion"

A relative of mine, another HS coach who's been around some of the spring practices for years, Told me the same thing.
I posted about it earlier in the summer and was crucified. I got so many negative points that Brian Cook blackballed me from writing any new posts (though I can still comment).

11/25/2009 - 2:55pm I agree it's not the coaching yet

Turnovers could result from any of the following: Youth, inexperience, good defense, poor conditions, poor preparation (this doesn't imply poor coaching, maybe the player just isn't very coachable), fluke plays, etc.

One of the most vexing aspects of 2008 and 2009 was that we were almost guaranteed to lose the turnover battle heading into any game, especially when weather played a factor. I'm not enough of nerd to back up my assertion with stats, however.

By the way, if we're having the same debate about turnovers at this point in 2010, would the coaches be accountable then?

09/21/2009 - 3:49am Pitching and catching?

Is it legal to catch your own pass? If so, D-Rob can (a) launch the mother of all hail marys, (b) sprint 60 yards in 2.5 seconds, (c) outleap the dumb-struck secondary for an epic TD.

09/14/2009 - 11:19pm It's A short drive down Washtenaw after you lose" week

WolverRoudy needs a winning streak. Go blue!

09/03/2009 - 8:16pm You should NEVER steer a car

You should NEVER steer a car with your legs. Knees, on the other hand...

09/03/2009 - 7:37pm Anne Coulter

I had no idea this mega-bitch went to Michigan Law School. She was probably the pain in the ass who sued the university for not holding class on a snow day.

08/31/2009 - 2:45pm The crux of the matter

What I wanna know, and what hasn't been reported, is whether or not the group of "former and current players" approached the FREEP, or whether the FREEP went on a witch hunt?

Maybe it's just Michigan's bad luck that Ann Arbor is the closest big-time football program to Detroit (Lions included).

I suspect that, like Grade Gate, the journalists were just fishing for a sensational headline to capitalize on the seasonal football fervor.

08/31/2009 - 2:37pm Contract = Show of Support

Doesn't a buyout from his old contract and $2.5 million annually for 6 years amount to a "show of support"?

Does anyone think coaching at Michigan is easy? I'd put it among the top 10 most stressful jobs in the country (coaching and politics included).

Buck up, Wolverines.

08/22/2009 - 8:48pm Grades question

Just curious, but does anyone know about Devin Pryor's, I mean, Vince Gardner's performance in the classroom?
I don't care if he's Myron Rolle-smart, but is he making the grades/test scores to be eligible? Are we looking at another Justin Turner nail-biter?

08/22/2009 - 8:40pm You just ended the good post streak...

... with your lame contribution, genius.

07/28/2009 - 1:44pm Trolling

The term "troll" is so misused/overused on this message board, but I'll admit that I've been a troll of sorts in the past... I used to troll for salmon, Lake trout and Steel head off Grand Haven on our cabin cruiser. Those were wonderful summer days spent with my family listening to Tiger games and reeling in 30-plus pound monsters.
By the way, I was an award-winning journalist for a brief time after college, but I left the print industry a decade ago for the greener pastures of new media.

07/28/2009 - 1:23pm Don't feel sorry

The point is that you read my posts and you can't wait for more. Now go back to playing with your Star Wars figures.

07/17/2009 - 12:50am Not bad, but a little creapy

Maybe you should get enrolled in your local community college's creative writing class.
The third graph just illustrates your weird obsession with me. Now I have something on record in case you or UMFootballCrazy decide to gun me down for having an opinion.

07/17/2009 - 12:16am My two cents

Since I'm sort of being referenced I feel the need to comment.

07/16/2009 - 3:03am thanks for the recap

I backed off the hick comment about 48 hours ago and I never said that I didn't like the new coach. You can characterize and read between the lines till your blue in the face for all I care.
By the way, if "spiraled down at an epic rate" = 7,000 views and 350 comments, so be it. At least my post is interesting.

07/15/2009 - 3:45am the logic is there, you just don't agree with it

I could pick your arguments apart line by line Stunna (nice handle, sounds so Vanilla Ice), but that would be glossing over the details. Let's really focus and criticize your post letter by letter...

"H" - You should never start a post with this weak-ass consonant.
"m" - Better, reminds me of Michigan.
"," - Maybe next time use an exclamation point for emphasis.

"l" - L is for loser, you already knew that.
"e" - Can I buy a vowel Pat?
"t" - This is making me tired.
"'" - You chose a contraction over "let us", bold move.
"s" - S is for Spock, master of logic and your idol.

Live long and prosper.

07/14/2009 - 1:14pm Stop reading this thread

Nobody's forcing you to be here.

07/14/2009 - 1:09pm What's in the box?

At least Kevin Spacey's character in "Seven" was smart. Although I would've preferred a comparison to his character in "Usual Suspects".

07/14/2009 - 1:06pm Agreed

Unpopular posts/opinions should be suppressed. We're seeking affirmation, not information.

07/14/2009 - 12:51pm Appreciate the thoughtful response

The vitriol of our hard core fan base is impressive... Hopefully, they can channel that aggression into a louder stadium experience.
Your criticisms of my logic/methodology are completely warranted, I'll take them to heart and try to incorporate them into future posts.
I don't give a crap about my point total, it's just fun to have a debate and get people to chime in. If Brian wants to boot my ass, so be it. :)

07/14/2009 - 12:32pm Thanks for the background

I'm not questioning my brother-in-law's account, but he hasn't spent a lot of time around Coach Rod either and was making some assumptions based on an isolated experience.
If you have a favorable impression of him (Moeller actually seems like a good guy, even if he did mess up), that's actually reassuring.
This is what I was looking for... A response to the post as opposed to a personal attack.

07/14/2009 - 2:58am Possibly

9 - 3 gives you a bit more latitude, right? I'm not advocating for that viewpoint, but the superstars get a longer leash in our society.
Again, I'm just passing along what I heard.

07/14/2009 - 2:55am You may be right

But he's not a Rich Rod fan, from what I can tell. Maybe that colored his impression of him.
It's funny, when I first heard the story my reaction was to defend Rich Rod. But then it stuck with me and I decided to share it.

07/14/2009 - 2:51am It's an annual deal

Where Michigan high school coaches spend a day in Ann Arbor. Maybe during the end of spring practices? I know it was prior to mid-June because that's when I heard the story.
I'm not calling my brother-in-law to verify. He's a private person and probably wouldn't like that I've shared his story with a wider audience.
Ultimately, he's a huge Michigan fan and he wants good things for the program.

07/14/2009 - 2:47am It's my post

And I'll use "we" if I goddamned feel like it. Start your own thread and you can make the grammatical rules.

07/14/2009 - 2:41am Rich Rod is infallible and beyond reproach

My bad, I'll never question another decision or action he takes.

07/14/2009 - 2:38am My brother-in-law has better things to do

Than post comments on crazy fan sites. Thanks, btw, for the spirited debate. I've actually read some pretty decent arguments (none from you though).

07/14/2009 - 2:33am You should tell him that in person

He's about 6'4", 250 bills.

07/14/2009 - 2:23am cheap shot

Consigliere, you're a magnificent bastard (or at least an orphan, right?). I have nothing to prove to you. I have my Michigan degree, I make an honest living in a sunny locale, and I love the Wolverines. Your questioning my credibility changes none of that.
In many ways, I'm more Michigan than you'll likely ever be: I played pick-up ball on South Quad's basketball court with Jimmy King and Ray Jackson; I lived next door to Ty Wheatley in the same dorm; I beat C-Webb in Madden '92 on Sega; I watched Desmond Howard win a Heisman; I was in the second row at Crisler when the Fab Five took defending champion Duke to double overtime in their national TV debut; I've been to three Rose Bowls; I was at the Colorado hail mary game; my ex girlfriend was roommates with Brian Griese's girlfriend; and I saw Michigan's b-ball team beat Arizona at the Palace. The best moment, as earlier referenced, was running into Woodson at Detroit Metro about a month after he won the Heisman. He signed a compilation program I happened to have at the time.
Think back and you'll realize (depending on how Michigan you really are) that I can't be lying about all of that. Why the hell would I make it up?

07/14/2009 - 2:08am Are you a park ranger at Yellowstone?

Say hi to Yogi Bear for me.

07/14/2009 - 2:07am I'm not writing RR off because he's a potty mouth

But it won't help him win a lot of people over or make his life at a new school/program any easier.

07/14/2009 - 2:04am I have an explanation

I hit a nerve.

07/14/2009 - 2:02am My point exactly

Bo was a saint, he never swore, and we should hold RR to the same standard. Please comrade, give me some credit.
Do you think Bo, in hindsight, looked back on his life and was proud of all the profanity? The man was a legend and he cussed with the best of them, but he wasn't Ty Cobb.

07/14/2009 - 1:54am You're a funny mother f____er

And you're repeating what's already been written about 50 times in this thread. There's a time and a place for profanity.

07/13/2009 - 6:06pm I'll keep posting so you have something to do

Lesson learned. I'll avoid posting anything that disparages the football program and put my burka back on.

07/13/2009 - 6:02pm Good point

I admit it, I only posted this diary to pile on the Marshall/Rob Parker stories.
The truth is that I don't care what the other posts have reported and you should stop looking for conspiracy theories.

07/13/2009 - 5:57pm Nice job

Inaccurately paraphrasing my argument. Do you work for the press?

07/13/2009 - 5:55pm Brian's probably loving the site traffic

Yes, all unpopular or controversial opinions should be suppressed. Move to Iran.

07/13/2009 - 5:53pm Not a troll

I have a 1997 program signed by Charles Woodson (ran into him at Detroit Metro when he was on his way to the Superbowl).
Go shoot a moose or something.

07/13/2009 - 5:48pm This is a blog, not the Wall Street Journal

I received this information from a trusted source. If you knew the source, you'd take the information seriously as well. I debated whether or not to post it, now I know I made the right decision.

07/13/2009 - 5:40pm You don't have to be a Harvard grad to have class

The hick comment was out of bounds. I don't know West Virginia from a hole in the wall, but I do know he sounds Southern and it's funny.

07/13/2009 - 5:38pm It's awesome. 135 comments and counting!

I don't have a right to defend myself? I'm not going to sit quietly by and listen to all of these apologists try to pick apart my post... This is a classic case of shooting the messenger.

07/13/2009 - 5:35pm It's 2nd-hand gossip

And, no, he didn't keep it in-house. This story got to me. I live all the way across the country. I didn't seek out this information.
I think we all need to put some pads on and hit something.

07/13/2009 - 5:31pm You hit it on the head, get it?

A witty reply, and least you didn't make it personal.
A good ambassador knows when to dial it back a bit.

07/13/2009 - 5:25pm Consideration is granted, respect is earned

We can question the status quo and still be fans.

07/13/2009 - 5:22pm Our savior

I hope he can handle the pressure, stay healthy, and hold onto the ball.

07/13/2009 - 5:20pm Not asking the guy to sign a morals clause

Just keep the BS in-house and win on the field. He's on a three-year plan right? The jury's still out.
