That franchise hasn't made a

That franchise hasn't made a wise or proactive decision in 55 years...who honestly believes that they will get this one right?

returner

Yeah I see him as a Logan type...and that's not so bad.  He can make a pretty good living returning kicks.  And he certainly would be an upgrade over Logan.

a sad day

I was 14 in 1976. My parents announced they were getting a divorce that spring, and that summer was really going to suck, and I needed a diversion or two to get me through it all. Fidrych WAS that diversion. I will never forget going to Tiger Stadium with my grandfather on a Saturday afternoon and beating Cleveland (I believe), in front of about 48,000 or so. It was electric there, and so was he. I only wish I could have a chance to meet him in person and tell him all of this.

Thanks, Bird.

old and young...

I'm 47...young enough to enjoy a good Papa Roach's "Lifeline", old enough to consider the Ramones' "I Wanna Be Sedated" a solid classic.

It was quite lopsided on the calls...

but it was a great season, nonetheless. Maybe next year, when the program makes the progression from bubble team to legitimate contender, we'll get those calls.

In any case, it is cool to see Michigan basketball relevant again.

Yeah, later tonight

They usually have the times so that they are in the Monday morning newspapers, at least that's the way it's been historically.

Because it's paired with a #2-#15 game, it's the earlier of the two; so it will either be early Thursday afternoon, or early Thursday evening.

Lunardi...

...has us pegged as a #10 seed in the West, playing #7 Texas. He seems pretty confident about getting in.

As has been noted, he got all 65 last year. Until he has a "bad" year, I'll listen to him before anyone else.

At least...

...Memphis seems to be taking care of one issue for us. They were up by 22 the last I checked.

Watch what the people sitting in front are doing...

...if they stand, you stand. That way, when Grandpa and Grandma say something to you, you can just turn and say, "It's them, not me. Take your fiber pill and chill out".

You need to learn to deal with the wine and cheese crowd.

Nothing...

...that Harris did, no matter what his stats may or may not say, would make me think he should win an award for being the top college b-ball player in the country. If he did, then the NBA's future is in the toilet. Even a reasonable person would not likely put Harris in the top 10 in the nation.

Let's make this clear: No matter what, or how many, names may be on the list, there are "really" only 3, 4, or 5 names that are relevant concerning this subject. And, believe me, none of them are playing in the Big 10.

Just sayin'.

Hey Jerard...

...excuse me while I stick a rusty pair of pliers into my ass hole and pull one of my kidneys.

Please find a hobby.

well, let's review...

...Beilein benches Harris, for reasons that may never be fully explained (because, maybe, it's none of our damn business). Mr. Harris responds by throwing down 27 on the #16 team in the country.

Seeing as though Coach Beilein probably has forgotten more about basketball than any of us wannabes will ever know, I would trust that he made the right move.

No matter what the Freep, or any of us, would or should say.

Pretend...

that you are a bank. Then go to Congress. They'll print you a couple of tickets.

There you go.

Nice title...

...lock the doors, people.

Not much longer

It's obvious we can no longer hang our tourney chances on beating those guys. Unfortunately, it's not where you start, it's where you finish.

Three loudest times at the Big House (for me, anyway)

3. The OT game w/MSU.

2. Harbaugh's 80-ish TD bomb to Kolesar vs. tOSU in '85.

1. Desmond's punt return vs. tOSU in '91. I thought that place was gonna crumble that day.

FWIW.

yeah, but nothing

Yeah, but nothing. I heard Mallett could throw 60 yards sitting on his ass...while reading the Free Press.

As I understand it...

...Obama is recruiting him for Secretary of Commerce. Apparently, he admires Mr. Brown's ability to make quick, firm decisions.

Bilas...

...may not necessarily be a "Duke apologist", but he sure as hell is an ACC apologist. He has actually been called on it by some of his peers.

And, no, he will not be calling for Coach K to get control of his team. He is nothing more than a douche.

nah

This dude has to have his coach advertise him to D-I programs. It'll never work out.

still...

...taking the under.

Nope

Nope.

I thought

I thought the all whites were worn in the early to mid-70's, not the 80's. If I'm wrong, then it's my bad.

But the all whites were pretty cool, and could be again.

If my memory is not failing...

...did we not go through all of this around this time last year?

GVSU is different

That program is becoming in a class by itself. It is simply a D II football factory, if there's such a thing. One look at their record in the last decade would say as such.

Something tells me...

...that the SEC will return the favor to him in the very near future. Kiffin might want to build bridges before he burns them down.

I'm sure this ain't going well amongst the "good ol' boys" down there.

So, by the Freep's logic...

...it would be alright if U-M went 3-9 every year, as long as we recruited primarily from Michigan. Nobody from the Freep would criticize RRod, or demand a change, and nothing negative would ever be written again.

Right.

Oh, woe...

After reading that article, I must say, "We cannot compete, we cannot compete, we cannot compete...". I hand my worthiness to the mighty Dantonio.

Sounds to me

Sounds to me like he took the easy way out, almost like he was looking for a reason to get the hell out of there. And he found it.

Good riddance. And, given his obvious lack of actual talent, good luck finding work in this economy.

Clear Channel

I also heard, from another station owned by Clear (not a sports station), that they fired about 7% of their staff, mostly from sports stations that they own. Had to be a "bottom-line" decision.

It was also said that Clear decided to do it on Tuesday because of the inaugeration dominating the news, so it would go largely unnoticed by the media.

By your logic, Callahan

By your logic, Callahan, this would suggest that Mike Tomlin is winning with Cowher's players, and Ken Whisenhunt is winning with Dennis Green's players. And so on and so on and...

To call him a great coach can be debateable, do it at your whim. He WOULD be an upgrade over Fat Chuck, how much we don't know. But to call him perhaps the most overrated coach in NFL history? Puhleeze.

For the one millionth time

Mallett was leaving anyway. No matter who the coach was going to be. Ziff72 is right. How many more times you want to beat that thing into the ground?

Therefore, there is no irony.

Probably Turner

If for no other reason, the position he plays.

Why?

Why do people keep bringing up Drew Sharp? He should not be relevant around here, and in order to do that we should ignore him. Completely.

agree with turbo cool...

...on the rebounding. It's exciting to see this team winning some games, and maybe NCAA-tourney-bound, but, wow, we sure give up a lot of easy points on the boards. But, I guess, after seeing what we've put up with the last decade or so, I'll take what we have.

I think

I think the reason we all reacted the way we did, to an 18-year-old seemingly making up his mind, is that the football program has had one break after another go against them. For a year or so, "blue chips" like Pryor and others have dangled carrots at us saying they want to come here, only to snatch the carrot away at the last minute. This looked to be just another one of those occasions. It just felt gratifying to see one go our way for once, and maybe it will be the start of some good karma for awhile. At least we can hope.

Agreed

All they did was win every game they played. Oh, by the way, one of the teams they beat was Oregon State, which beat USC.

To summarize...Pete Carroll, shut the f*** up!

agree with chi town

Even past his prime, Summerall is still better than Musberger and most of the other bigmouths we have to listen to. He simply reports the game, and lets the picture tell the story.

In his heyday, and I am old enough to remember that, he was simply the best NFL PBP guy, ever. For college football, he may be a little out of his element, but his broadcasting this game speaks volumes about the other morons we have to put up with, not because he happens to be 126 years old. Sometimes, older is better.

It would be nice...

...to have the USC cheerleaders be forced to perform in temperatures lower than their cup sizes.

It wasn't "excessive celebration"

Not in Southern California. There, it is called "fashionable exuberance". Therefore, the flag is picked up.

good move for him

Good move for him. With the Hawkeyes back on our schedule, it's good for us, too.

Musberger's love fest with the Pac-10

Musberger is noting, with a lot of slobber, that the Pac-10 is about to go 5-0 in bowl games. With the exception of the Sun Bowl in El Paso (with Oregon State's "thrilling" 3-0 victory over Pitt), every bowl game the Pac-10 played in was in the Pacific time zone. They could have all rode their bicycles to their games. While it is often mentioned that USC always has a built-in advantage playing in nearby Pasadena, no one ever mentions the conference's overall advantage in having to travel very little in relation to whomever they are playing.

Just sayin'.

Should PSU lose?

It's 31-7 at the half. The Big 10 will be 1-5 after this beatdown is completed. Spin it anyway you want to, this is looking UGLY.

sounds to me

sounds to me as though he is coming in here with the full intent of starting as a freshman. And, considering what his competition is, he may very well do it. Whatever the case may be, bringing a QB that has a clue what's going on is damn well better than what we got right now.

Meh

Not too big a deal. What WOULD be news is if Charlie Weis was found sunning himself on one of Hawaii's beaches, and suddenly that beach was overrun by Greenpeace stormtroopers, thinking that CW was a beached whale in need of rescue.

I salute you

Thanks for some excellent Christmas cheer. Merry Christmas to you and to all of you out there. Be safe.

I am proud

I've always bled maize and blue. And everytime I see her, it reminds me that I did SOMETHING right. And, yes, she got accepted to both UM and tuOSU, and she turned them both down.

And it is VERY cool.

I have my daughter

My daughter was born in December 1988. She is a sophomore at UM. My ex-wife and I attended our first game a month before she was born. We sat through a driving rainstorm to watch UM batter Minnesota and clinch a Rose Bowl spot. Michael Taylor, unless my memory has deserted me, broke his ankle in that game (the conditions, with the rain, were horrible) and we rode Demetrious Brown to a rare Rose Bowl win 6 weeks later.

I guess, in that respect, my daughter is my UM memorabilia. Good enough for me.

Good idea

It looks pretty good. And you gave time to allow for the "minor" bowl games. It sure would be a more depressing world if we were denied more Memphis-South Florida matchups.

I wonder

I wonder if this moron has ever had to open up a bill, be it car insurance, or a simple utility bill. These mental midgets are so detached from us "regular" people that the practicality of performing simple tasks like insurance renewal causes him to make his face look like a 6-year-old looking at a physics question. They just don't get it. At all.
