news to me

I've never heard him say it, although - admittingly I don't watch PTI that much but caught that the other day

Gotcha

with the tone of the thread, I thought that's what you were implying.

I don't disagree with you on that.  Expectations are high every year - I think when we start to "expect" 7-5 or 8-4 - we'll get it.  So I see what you're saying and agree with you.  I think we have a chance each year - based on the kids we have in there, I think that chance fluctuates year to year, but I wouldn't disagree with your basic argument.

No harm no foul there. I look forward to more conversations in the future.

I interpreted

"So guess what - that's fine if you don't think we're that good.  You might as well be a Missouri fan then."

Since NOLA called out everyone who didn't think we're going to win the NC, and assuming you read his posting, saying I "might as well be a Missouri fan then" - seemed to be a jab at my fandom.

I say we all bury the hatchet here, go out to the Brown Jug tonight and drink some beers and see if we can't get replays of the 1998 Rose Bowl, 2008 Outback Bowl and the 2012 Sugar Bowl going on the tvs.  Speaking of the Brown Jug - dammit  miss being 21 and getting loopy over there on Thursday - Saturday nights.

Eh,

I wouldn't say a generational thing. In my experience it's been the opposite. The "old" guys are usually the cynics and the "kids" have the pie in the sky hopes.

You seem to almost take personal offense to the fact that I don't think we're "that good" and I might as well be a "missouri fan". I feel this was an ignorant comment - for a few reasons...

I always HOPE that we'll win the NC. Do I think Denard can do it? I don't.  Do I WANT him to, YES!  But, please don't confuse that with my loyalty. I think that's where people are getting confused. I promise you, if we watched a game together I would match, if not have more intensity than you.  I scream and yell if I'm at the game, or watching it on TV. I wear my maize and blue as a faithful alum anywhere I go - and will continue to do so until the day I die. Just because I don't think we'll win it all next year, does not equate me to being a "missouri fan" - and I do take offense to that.

Then by your rationale, some random guy who wears U of M gear - and proclaims in the diag every weekend that "We'll win the NC! We'll win the NC! because we're Michigan!" is a "better fan than I". Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. But, if that's how you see a true fan, then so be it. Can't make you think otherwise - but please don't question my loyalty when you know nothing about me or my history with U of M.

Yeah I'm not

sure why he's trying to call people out for not saying we're gonna win a NC each year. Guess I throw myself into that boat as well.  Would I love for them to win it every single year? Hell yes I would.  Losing Molk is huge too - gotta find someone else to put in center to solidify that o-line.

Don't think fans are any less "fans" if they are based in reality. Now, to say it's entirely impossible - especially when you went 11-2 is a little silly. But based on the schedule (which is brutal, IMO) with all those tough games on the road, it will have to be a special season for us to pull that off.  LA is right, teams lose people each year - so it's not like every other team is going to be stacked. But, it's hard enough when you're a great team to win the NC - I think UM next will be a good team and has a very small chance. But, I'd agree there's not a high probability and I'm not sure why NOLA thinks he needs to give people are hard time that don't believe this either and question their loyalty to the program that anything less is letting down the team...

Thanks for

adding something to the debate, lb.

Like sands

through the hourglass, so our the days of our Yuri.

Well if that happened

Then I'd just be furious and demand the person's head who ever thought of such a stupid system and demand an 8 team playoff the following year. :)

I never liked the plus 1

IMO, rarely is there are year where one argues that a #5 team could be the best in the nation. Of course, college bball shows us almost every year that a #1 seed doesn't win it, that the #5 team or lower is "the best". But in football, name me one year in the BCS where people really thought a #5 team or lower was actually the best and got screwed.

You could argue that the #3 team was left out simply because of the structure - I'm thinking Auburn 2004, but that was a legitimate reason because they were undefeated.

What everyone says is true, no matter what there will be teams on the bubble.  But if people are really honest with themselves, they should realize that having a 4 team playoff is the most common sense choice.  All the other teams that don't make the 4 team playoff play in all the other bowls as they would have as before.  And I think only once a decade or so would you really have a valid argument of keeping the #5 team out of it.

While his delivery

was a bit crass, his point is well made.  A few of the members of this board are extremely pretentious in regards to content. And while I'm all for integrity of the board and not posting a bunch of BS, some people just need to relax...

I find it interesting

That he claims to be a U of M fan, but then goes to a rival school. (I know he hasn't yet, but say he does) Guess the hatred for some of the rivals is not totally shared

Not sure why this

was flagged as trolling. I thought it was pretty funny.

I don't see

that as being a debbie downer at all.  #5 is way too high for all the reasons you mentioned.  I don't think Denard is ever going to be a great passer. I hope I have to eat those words next year, but I just don't see his decision making capability as strong enough.  However, we did see flashed of brilliance in the Nebraska and Ohio game this year, so there is hope.

Personally, I think we'll end up next year 15-20th due to the schedule.

Aha.

My mistake. DIdn't see his comment because it was hidden.  Well in that case, I really have no problem with what you're saying.  I agree with you - can't paint an entire religion/race/faith/people etc. with a broad stroke. That being said, due to the history between the two factions - one cannot help but be cautious - as evidenced by this very example. But of course, that's where the slippery slope of bigotry/profiling, etc that perpetuates the problem.  It's really all learned behavior, and I hope that one day we can all move past it.

My apologizes - I thought you were responding to the OP.

I don't see

Muslim anywhere in the posting at all. Your overall message is not false, but it seems to me you're just looking for a poltical fight on mgoblog, which - to be honest - is extremely annoying.

Ironic that you tell the OP to get off his soapbox, when he's is just trying to raise awareness of an injustice. But yet, you come on here (on your soapbox) screaming of injustice. Talk about hypocritical.

Compound that with the fact the neither link in the post even makes mention of the word Muslim and no subsequent poster has mentioned it either.

FrankMurphy

Way to extrapolate that from his post - get lost man, seriously.  Nodody here wants to read your BS.

Maybe we can just get him a chauffeur?

Speaking of the running game

It seems to me that Denard and Fitz have been really hesitant lately.  In the NFL - you see backs just gunning for the holes and there's rarely (or at least it seems this way to me) any hesitation.  What I mean by hesitation is them being 2-3 feet behind an O-lineman or a lead blocker and waiting for a hole to open up.  Now, I noticed a few plays this year where this worked wonders - but in the VT game, the DE's or LB's just sniffed this out seemingly everytime but one (where Denard followed Fitz for about a 10 yard gain.

Does anyone else find this hesistation/delayed waiting for a seam to open up weird?  I don't remember seeing this in past offenses or even last year.  Is this a Borges strategy or is this personal running preference by these guys?  Am I imagining things?

To the OP - yes, the entire game just "felt" bizarre.  More for me when we had the ball - when we were on D I was just pulling my hair out on so many of the long 3rd down plays we gave up.

But, the great thing is in 1-2 months - nobody is going to remember any of this. We won the Sugar Bowl and I'm damn proud of this team going 11-2 and a BCS bowl champ. Exceeded all of my expectations for 2011.

Hahahaha

You know, I never realized he does kind of look like a clown in that picture. Has nothing to do with Michigan football, and as a alum I suppose the avatar should - but I just love that picture so much - have to use it

Nice try

Assclown.

Per Rivals

"I was just wearing the hat to wear it," Wright said. "I wasn't trying to say I committed or nothing like that. They went with my sneakers, so I said why not?"

I don't think he's sold out to the golden domers just yet...

and I'm betting

you're dead wrong.  I think Stanford has the advantage in academics, but Michigan is clearly the more well-balanced choice. Hopefully he goes blue.

His hatred for

OSU is growing...

This - is a good sign.

Not really

Actually, I think it was a pretty accurate posting. One of the other "senior members" of this board critiqued me last week for creating a thread about Braylon Edwards. It was entitled, "OT-Braylon Edwards Gives Back" and I included a link to the espn video and said I was proud of Braylon. So I got jumped on for "not making the thread clear enough". Which upon further reflection, I really didn't have a problem with.

So now, I see this post today - which is clearly UNCLEAR - but yet everyone is fine with it. Not bitching here, just noticing a double standard in this situation.

Go ahead and say I'm a hater - but don't try and say it's not hypocritical.

Thread fail

Not really sure

if including the title of the video in the header consitutes "lazy" - but to each their own. Summary added for those unwilling to click link (and/or boycott ESPN) :)

Cool

Thanks Ace.  I didn't think so and heard nothing, but just curious now that Dunn has firmed up with the Bucks if anything had changed.

Leave Ace ALONE!

Really man, stop being a prick. I'd love to see how you did when you first started your job - it never goes 100% smooth. Just chill out, let him get his feet wet and see how it is in a year. If it's this time next year and you're still not satisfied, at least you'll have some basis for your comments.  Personally, I think he does a fine job and will continue to get better as time goes on.

The moderate button

Only appears after 100 mgoblog points.

au contraire my friend

There were periods of sun inbetween the monsoon. Ruined my best pair of shorts too - ticket bled through on them.. son of a b!

Well, thats good

because the sun always shines on the Big House. Brandon Herron Brandon Herron #58 of the Michigan Wolverines runs onto the field prior to playing the Western Michigan Broncos at Michigan Stadium on September 3, 2010 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Seems OK

to me.  He is shaking his leg quite a bit, and does look a little pale. But I don't think it's anything serious.  I think we should be more concerned about the guy who hacks up a lung @ 7:47.

You stole my thunder

The mash up with the 30 seconds to mars song almost brings a tear to me eye.

Ol Urban is aggresive

Kyle Kyle Kyle!! I'll give you ONE HUNDRED dollars if you come to OSU!

Not enough..? How about... TWO HUNDRED???

No??  You won't come to Ohio because you realize how awesome Michigan is...?But.. But... you make me a sad Meyer...

Exactly

and exactly.  It's obvious its all about money, so they better start selling or they'll be on the black list.

What do they call a Jamaican Proctologist?

A "Pokemon"!

Yuri!

You vailed to intercept ze pass, and now Аркадий caught it for a tovchdovn! Back to ze gulag vit you!

I like the transition

from Denard, to Devin, to Shane.  It's a gradual progression to a dual threat QB to a pro-style QB.  To me, this seems like a nice transition - so the offense isn't flipping immediately over to a new scheme.

I'd be amazed

If any of our current recruits ended up being turncoats. I've been wrong before, but I'm not seeing that happening. Especially now if they go on any OSU board and see the names they're getting called - they're not gonna feel any warm and fuzzies to the hairless nuts.

Me too

Not as bumble-beeish as the ND game, so thats good. I dig them too. Not sure what all the uproar is about - I think they look cool.

Stars related to grades??

You're implying that Rawl's would have been a 4* if he would have had higher grades? I wasn't aware that they take grades into consideration when rating a prep-player...?

oh well

Would have liked to see him in the winged helmet, but what can you do.  I'm not that worried though, cause chances are he won't be as effective for them in the spread.  Good luck to him.

Fear not my friend

Kalis > Washington, Magnuson > Pittman. Problem solved!

Hope we get him

but if we don't, keep in mind - he won't be utlized properly in the spread - so his impact will be much less.  I am still hoping Rawls is the second coming of A-Train...

Amen.

Be nice to get Molk in there and get Riola out. He's gettin old.

Who cares...

Payton is a drama queen and loves all the attention. I figured his ship sailed when he bailed on Mich right before he was "supposed" to sign .

He seems like a kid that would bitch about not getting enough targets.  Good riddance I say.  I'm actually not bitter, and wish the kid well - but kinda glad it looks like he's moving on.

As you should

The NCAA won't do a DAMN thing. Why would they give OSU the exception of having 2 coaching staffs if "they were really really mad" at them - give me a break. OSU brings in big bucks, purchase apparel, etc etc etc. Slap on the wrist if that - as far as the USC thing, I bet that's just a rumor that I really wish was true.

Good to know

I'm not the only one. I just sit idly on my couch, staring at the TV trying to find something worthwhile to watch. Sadly, nothing compares or fills the void left by D1 CFB.... sigh.  You tube it is!

This thread

went to hell. Although, I did get a few laughs seeing the retard from CO try and compare Colorado to Michigan... talk about bringin a knife to a gunfight.
