06/23/2014 - 2:28pm Oh yeah

I had blocked that one out of my memory.  I was a sophomore and one week before, I rushed the field at Notre Dame.  I was having thoughts of National Championship and 5 minutes later, felt like my dog just died.

06/23/2014 - 2:17pm Gut Punch Games

What a gut punch that was last night.  I was driving home trying to figure out when I last felt this way about a game.

I think Outback 2013 is the last time I felt like this.  Similar last-second-other-team heroics, similar favorable-betting-odds wasted.

08/21/2012 - 5:25pm I know you have...

And I actually own one, but I would buy another tshirt if it was simply:

BEAT OHIO on one line like the "HAIL" or classic "MICHIGAN" ones.

05/15/2012 - 3:02pm Hart

Gotta be.  I remember so many games thinking that the littlest guy on the field was carrying the team.

05/14/2012 - 1:26pm Horton.

He got me watchinig Michigan hoops again after a 5-year hiatus.

02/29/2012 - 2:09pm Our hall has wings?

What if there were wings to this hall of fame.  Bruised/bloody/leader/novak could be one, media dandies (ala Kieth Stone) could be one, ultimate bad asses (Martin), other sports could be another, perhaps olympians?

01/03/2012 - 3:50pm Molk...

Does Molk rip one at 1:45 of the jersey video?

12/06/2011 - 1:57pm Chick-fil-a vs Peach?

I'd rather have Chick-fil-a over a peach any day, so this one is OK by me.

12/05/2011 - 10:53am This is hockeybear

That video is better than every Michael Bay film and trailer.  How can you not get fired up for anything with that many explosions?

11/10/2011 - 4:50pm I thought I was the only one

I thought I was the only one that noticed that when I didn't see anyone else complaining about it this week.

It sure would have been nice to have the threat of Denard running in one of those last 4 plays.

11/10/2011 - 4:39pm The late 17-second huddle...

I've been watching football for 30 years and thes two things stumped me.

1. "Gallon stumbles and does not actually get OOB here."  I didn't think he got out of bounds either, but I remember the ref on the sideline doing the timout signal.  So, I thought, "oh.  Good job getting out of bounds I guess."  When I saw the referee wind the clock (which seemed like a very fast move of the chains BTW), I too was not happy with our uninahurryness.  How would the Michigan coaches, who were on the opposite sideline I think, know he was in bounds so they could yell in Denard's helmet (assuming we use those) to go no huddle?  Do the refs always stop the clock with that signal when it's an obvious first down or is there a special "the clock will stay stopped after the chains move" signal?

2. I thought the ground couldn't cause a fumble, but it clearly did for Denard's fumble.  Is there some sort of exception for the QB?  It only cost us a field goal, but I was pissed about it and I'm not sure I should have been.

06/20/2011 - 6:21pm Millen

McDonough is nice, but when you have to hear Millen with him <barphs>.

06/09/2011 - 1:41pm Think about the colorblind!

How are they going to know if they're yelling at a player or a ref?  The helmets and athletic builds you say?  Well played sir.

06/07/2011 - 2:21pm I like the rule proposal,

I like the rule proposal, though I'm reading about it on a blog and not in a newspaper.  The possibility of end-of-game comebacks would be great.

05/05/2011 - 4:23pm That reminded me of Yoda for

That reminded me of Yoda for some reason.

04/07/2011 - 6:56pm I remember...

... seeing him on campus every now and then in (officer) uniform and telling my friends (east coast transplants), "that's Vada Murray!"  They were like, "who?"  I wanted to introduce them to one of the best players I remembered from my youth, but I didn't for some reason.  I think it was because I was running the naked mile.

03/27/2011 - 12:46am According to imdb...

"Commitment Train" is not a movie title. Dibs!
<br>Now all I need is a plot, the phone numbers for Kate Hudson's and Daniel Tosh's agents, the ability to write romantic comedy screenplays, and a train. It'll be gold!

03/25/2011 - 1:25pm It's the one thing I'll be anticipating this weekend...

... when I'm not watching the tourney, that is.

03/25/2011 - 1:19pm I love all of this

I wasn't paying attention at the beginning of "practice-gate", but was the evidence piling up like this for our "major" infractions?

03/05/2011 - 8:10pm I was in flight during the game

I landed and looked at the score immediately. Misread it at first. Best part was realizing I can't read.

03/04/2011 - 1:14pm Was that Izzo's guarantee?

It seemed pretty weak.  Regardless, I hope State fans are asking for their money back around 4pm tomorrow.

Go Blue.

03/02/2011 - 4:52pm Pre-conference big10 teams "in"?

Does anyone remember how many big10 teams were projected to be in before conference play started?  I vaguely remember there being a lot of talk of there being a good chance that 6 teams making it (tOSU, MSU, Purdue, Wiscy, Illinois, Minnesota) with NW having potential of making it 7.  It's pretty clear that the big10 is still as tough (though Minnesota and MSU have fewer key players available), that some of the names have changed (Minnesota -> Michigan, NW -> PSU), and the the conference schedule has been a slugfest from top to bottom.  So, why only 5 teams now?

03/02/2011 - 4:45pm I could see it being the opposite

I'd really like to beat Sparty on Saturday.  I could see them getting in as a .500 regular season big10 team.  I'd rather they have that locked up going into saturday (they'd be 9-8 with a win tonight) than being in a must-win situation.  Bracketologists might say Saturday is still a "should-win" even with a win vs Iowa tonight, but they would come into Saturday's game a little less desperate.

03/02/2011 - 11:25am I was going to ask the same thing

I've been an mgoblogger since August 2010, so I've seen my share of "Hello" articles but wasn't here early enough to see all of them for the 2011 class.  So when would we be likely to see the first "Hello" article of the year?  I don't want to name names for fear of jinxing anything, but it sounded like recent visits would possibly lead to our first "Hello" post of the class.  The hoops team is a nice distraction for now at least, but I hope we start getting commits or April is going to be rough.

02/17/2011 - 1:31pm Doyle

Is it me, or does it seem like he's trying kindof hard to build some sort of cartoon character type image?  He had a goofy mustache about a week ago, and last night looked like a wannabe Don Cherry?  His suit last night was outrageous.

Still, I didn't think his color was too bad.

02/17/2011 - 11:04am Gritty game by our boys last night

I still try to close my eyes and picture Stu making an ESPY-worthy shot (which probably would have only sent the game to OT), but alas, it never falls.  It hurts to lose that game, but Michigan went into a hostile environment and played one helluva game... a gutty second half.  It was nice to see that they could hang when their threes weren't falling.

Being the optimist, I keep looking for the experts saying we're in or out, and I was so happy to see a little green triangle today next to our name in the at large tab this morning.  I'm pretty sure it wasn't there yesterday.

02/16/2011 - 4:36pm So no Gus?

So no Gus?

02/16/2011 - 4:26pm I wouldn't look too much at the effective height

Ohio State has an effective height ranking of 177, mainly because they have 4 guards and that other guy that makes me hear "he went to Jared" in my sleep.  Illinois has lost to teams with effective height rankings of 109 (Texas), 84 (UIC), 124 (Missouri), 60 (Penn State), Ohio State (177), Indiana (101), and Purdue (127).  Northwestern (19) and Wisconsin (36) were the tallest teams they lost to, and maybe that says that they overlook the smallish teams and play up to their taller opponents (puns definitely intended).  I wouldn't worry about that stat too much.

Illinois has the ability to completely go into this game sleeping, looking ahead at the two "State" schools it faces in its next two games.  One is a fellow bubble team that used to be the #2 team in the country, while the other is soon to be the #1 team in the country again.  Most teams would be looking ahead to those games.  Yes, Illinois hates Michigan way more than the other way around so they might be up for this "rivalry", but if they're looking ahead they might be in trouble.  Just look at how they did against Illinois-Chicago right before their Missouri game (big rivalry), or against Penn State before Wisconsin.  Sure, neither were at home, but the former was definitely an Illinois crowd.  I was there with my wife and mother in law.

Michigan needs to win tonight, mainly because the allegiance of my 18 month old son is in the balance.

Go blue.

02/16/2011 - 1:42pm Big game tonight

A win tonight should definitely put us closer to the "in" column.  CTD is discussing us.  Again, doesn't mean we're in [spoiler: they agree for now], but it's better than being a team that's just developing.

02/14/2011 - 6:23pm Yeah, but we're at least discussing

I agree that it's early to get excited, but it's nice to even be arguing about it.  I was just hoping we'd be developing for 2012 and a nice sendoff for Zach and Stu, but there's a legit chance now.

FWIW, I think Lunardi had us out most of 2009, and we're not even on his 8 teams that our out.

FWIW2, has us 5th out (don't know how to link to it, but it's on the "at-large selection" tab.  Again, glad to be on the alternate list for "the dance" when months ago I thought we'd be hoping to play spoiler.

02/10/2011 - 12:25pm I agree

Smotz seems to be having trouble finding his place on this team.  Is he the player that just chucks 3s, or is he a 5?  I thought the latter was out of necessity until I saw him try to post up last night.  I think he'll be good and a major matchup problem once he gets more minutes, which will come once he figures out the defensive side of the ball.

02/10/2011 - 12:20pm It's hard to contain tourney excitement

Worst case, I'm glad that I'm optimistic this late in the season.  I thought I'd be in "let's see how the kids are developing mode" right now, but I'm starting to think that we'll at least have a chance to blow it by losing early in the Big10 tourney.  That's probably technically pessimistic, but it's better than I thought after the IU and NW road games.

As far as seeing how the kids are developing, it's great to see THJ grow with every game, regardless of whether it's at home or on the road.

01/07/2011 - 4:29pm Wait a minute

What was all that one in a million talk?

12/13/2010 - 2:07pm My one minute logo

I had an awesome Big 10 logo that took me one minute to make in ms paint.  After 3 minutes of figuring out how to post it here, I gave up.  So here is the ascii version:

BIG * 6/5

12/13/2010 - 1:58pm Extra point

If it's like most other UM kicks this year, he missed it.

12/07/2010 - 1:25pm Mississippi State

Keep that "Dropouts" spot warm for them.  They'll be visiting it on January 2.

And for the superstitious out there, consider this jinx to be so jinxy that it's a double-reverse jinx.  Wait, I just made it a quadruple...  OMG a sextuple...

/Shops for jinx video camera at Best Buy.  Points said jinx video camera at a TV displaying that jinx video.

12/06/2010 - 2:25pm Wait, we won the basketball game?

I was reading that basketball segment thinking, a. I'm pissed I forgot to watch the game Saturday and b. I'm pissed we lost because it sure sounds like it.  So I went over to and saw that we won.

12/02/2010 - 12:38pm OK. Cool.

Great.  That gives me more confidence that this team will be a tougher out than I originally thought this season.

We still have a ways to go though, because all I could think while watching the MSU/Duke game last night was that they're in a different league.  They're automatic final four, while we're hoping for NIT.

12/01/2010 - 4:38pm Was UTEP a depth/fatigue issue?

I didn't watch the UTEP game.  I've only seen the Cuse and Clemson games this year, and I was very pleased with what I saw until we started getting to the bench (besides Stu).  In both games I recall thinking that we look remotely solid and more than competitive in the first 6 minutes or so.  Then the bench players came in, and I foresaw a season where our lack of depth was going to cost us games.

They're young and will eventually prove worthy with more ham, so I think that's fine.  I'm just saying that without watching, I'm writing off the UTEP game to a team lacking depth and not having gas (again, ham?) in the second of back-to-back games.

11/23/2010 - 5:04pm Assuming you're pro RR, I agree.

I've been pro-coach my whole life.  I'm old enough to remember Bo, I was too young to see issues with Mo, loved Lloyd, and am pro RR.

I remember several arguments with my friends who wanted Lloyd to go because his offenses were terrible, even though he won national championships with defenses and those boring offenses.

Now we have RR, and the offense is the "don't change the channel or you might have to watch the defense twice" awesome, and is strangly keeping us in games like Lloyd defenses used to do.  People are still arguing for him to go.

I wish people would just accept the fact that the defense is hated by a higher power and embrace the fact that the offense is a thing of beauty and is going to get better the next two years.

If our probation with the AMSHG doesn't expire next year, it doesn't matter if Buddy Ryan is the coach, so lay off RR... but pile on GERG.

11/16/2010 - 5:34pm Are Moundros' shoulder pads

Are Moundros' shoulder pads on backwards?

11/15/2010 - 12:58pm If Illinois had been ranked...

... How far would they have fallen?  I'd have to say 30+ (or is it '-'?), because a Minnesota home loss is almost as bad as the horror.

11/08/2010 - 6:34pm "It was a perfect storm of injuries and misfortune..."

Storm?  Do you think Rich Rod is aware of the AMSHG, which is often depicted in "finger in storm cloud" form?

11/08/2010 - 8:41am I'm Hungry

LOL.  Great line.  I hope Roundtree wakes up hungry every Saturday this month.

11/02/2010 - 5:28pm Amen to that

Two highlight reels coming out of the backfield would be awesome.  It would probably cut into Denard's rushing stats a bit, but it'll be amazing to watch.

10/27/2010 - 4:12pm LOL

Great comment, but maybe he's an example of why they need to work hard on the court.

10/21/2010 - 4:55pm Ezeh and Gordon

Before UFRs (I'm mgonew this year), I though Ezeh was good because I could remember his name.  Thanks to the UFRs, I looked downright Kovacs like* when I suggested they play Demens insted of Ezeh at the MSU game.

*Some plusses, some minuses.  Like, I knew that, but I still can't remember which Gordon is the one that's supposed to be kindof good.

10/07/2010 - 4:59pm I'm always amazed...

... that you, Brian, are able to cram so much detail into UFRs.  They must just take forever and it is incredible that you are able to churn them out every week.  I thought there was no way you'd get this one done on time.

10/07/2010 - 2:47pm Local beers might sway me

Oberon or Amber?  You can get both at any grocery store, and Oberon at any bar, but Amber seems to be harder to find when you're out.  Matildas might have to be the place if they have Amber.  Problem is, I've been there for a normal night out and don't remember it having a ton of TVs.  It was years ago, so maybe they've changed?

10/06/2010 - 4:33pm So that's +1 Duffy's, right?

I still think Rick's is totally awesome even though I'm way too old for it.
