                     And those were the girls!

Hey, if this concept plays…

Hey, if this concept plays out without any significant mental health impacts then the next step could be underground housing.  Talk about space saving!

Imagine a giant dorm right under open space (like the DIAG e.g.) on any campus under development.  Or, on an existing campus, built underground as other buildings age to the point of needing replacement.

Take out the old, bury the new, and then put some green space on top (albeit no trees) where the new residents can go for fresh air and light.

Burrow Hall perhaps?

Two weeks ago the narrative was that the B1G was by far the strongest team in the country.  Then Iowa and Penn State happened (twice to PSU but they were without Clifford against Iowa).  p.s. I did not downvote your post.

And don't forget the…

And don't forget the blizzard.  Their QB has never played in a snowstorm.

Their freshman QB is from…

Their freshman QB is from California and so has played in rain plenty of times.  Has he ever played in a snowstorm?  I'll bet not.  Fingers crossed for a blizzard on game day this year.

Yeah, the ROI has been…

Yeah, the ROI has been dismal.

I didn't remember it being…

I didn't remember it being called Lucky Jim's but after Googling that name, you're right!  It didn't last long, just a few years.  The google entry mentions that they wrapped the food in newspaper, at least initially, which triggered my memory of that too.

Nothing seemed to last long in that location back then.

The Jamaican place came…

The Caribbean spot came much later after I moved away so I never did stop in there.  Was it good food?

You're not really a townie unless you remember the Fish & Chips place at the corner of Packard and Woodlawn ;)

The Taco Bell I remember was around the corner on E. University.  Proud to say that I never ate there.  Yuck.

The Clink hire is definitely paying dividends now.

You could look at it that…

You could look at it that way. That's the fear-driven perspective.

Another way to look at it is that he could've been the savior of the UT defense and start building a new and better future there.  Lots of resources at his disposal. Turn around a bad situation and be a Big Time Hero.

Oh, not to mention $1.3 Million more per year than he was getting paid at Ohio.  And the step up in title and challenge.  Everyone would've known he was taking on a difficult situation and cut him extra slack (and turnaround time) because of it.  Not much farther to fall or fail given the situation, but tremendous upside if he was successful.

Did I mention $1.3 Million more per year?   And DC at a once vaunted Tier One program desperate to become great again.

Versus a $600k or so position coach in a "comfortable" place, maybe bumped up closer to $1M to keep him where he is.   I don't know, I think a confident, ambitious coach would've jumped all over that opportunity.

Al Washington turned down…

Al Washington turned down like $2 Million per year and a promotion to DC from Tennessee to remain in Columbus.  Go Figure!

Not even one assistant coach has left OSU yet this month!

p.s. here's the recruit we're talking about for anyone interested:

https://fansided.com/2021/06/30/brenan-vernon-247-notre-dame-commits/

Freeman was in Cincinnati…

Freeman was in Cincinnati which is farther from Cleveland than Ann Arbor is and even more different culturally.  He may have some "ins" there but how does one get ins?  By being in the hunt, showing, cultivating, pursuing.  Doesn't sound like Michigan coaches are doing much of that in Ohio any longer.  I do think that there is some psychological defeatism at work as well.  Whereas the new D coordinator for ND was, as you put it so well, "not afraid" of going hard after a 5-Star Ohio kid who everyone knew (assumed) would end up in Columbus.

Not directly a response to…

Not directly a response to your comment but there's a sense some fans have that Michigan can't go into Ohio any longer and pull out top recruits.  Yet less than a week ago Notre Dame landed a commitment from a 5-Star DL from Ohio for their 2023 class.  Still a ways to go, sure, but did Michiigan even get in on that guy?  Or did defeatism prevent them from even trying for a high star Ohio player?  Notre Dame went after him and scored big, right under the noses of OSU while they were busy chasing Tumulumao (or however that's spelled).

Notre Dame just signed a 5…

Less than a week ago Notre Dame landed a 5-Star DL commitment from an Ohio recruit for their 2023 class.  Was Michigan even sniffing around for him?  I doubt it.

The talent gap between…

The talent gap between Michigan and OSU is much smaller than the talent gap betweeen Michigan and Wisconsin, or Michigan and MSU.  And yet....

A contraction of "Let's Go"…

A contraction of "Let's Go" b/c the sign can only hold so many letters of that size?

Wait, lemme see if I got…

Wait, lemme see if I got this right:  Clink is coming here to be the OL coach also in charge of run game strategy, and Moore is moving to the defensive backfield and special teams??

j/k, GREAT HIRE!!

I assumed that your initial jab was aimed at me (the OP) and it seemed a little rude so I jabbed back.  I appreciate your follow up though and i've "relaxed" (edited) my own reply accordingly. Indiana is the one state that has Brood X completely covered! ...well, vice-versa.

Cicada emergence is a very…

Cicada emergence is a very rare and fascinating natural phenomenon.  Easy to avoid the "buzz" if you're not interested.

Michigan's "spring game" OTOH, was awful. Pathetic.

I watched some of Maryland's Spring Game on BTN and it was very entertaining with real game atmosphere including a modest crowd, their marching band, cheerleaders, and --gasp-- tackling!  They were hitting pretty hard.

Yeah, it's amazing how local…

Yeah, it's amazing how local the eruption are!  Looks like you've got Brood XIII in the Chicagoland, N. Illinois in general, eastern Iowa, and S. Wisconsin areas.  A few of those in S. Michigan too.  Once I start hearing about eruptions in Indiana I may drive down to visit my brother and see them there.   We may be too far north for them up here in Kalamazoo though.

To Don:  That was a fun link, thanks.  The #3 sign gave me a laugh.

"Cicada holes are about the size of a dime. Cicadas preemptively dig holes to the surface and wait until the weather is nice enough for them to emerge. Sometimes you can see them down in the holes."

I kind of remember that from 1970 also but it's not going to be too helpful this year, at least in our own yard, because I have a lawn aeration scheduled for next week and that would be a lot of little holes to peer into :-)

So Google could've told me…

To East Quad:  So Google could've revealed if anyone on MGoBoard has already seen cicadas emerge in their locale?  Because that's the question.  Of course it's going to be May or June once the soil warms up.  That point is going to be different all over the emergence zones.

"Will Johnson is a legacy…

Please don't poke the football Gods!  They've demonstrated numerous times in recent years that we are on a very short leash with them.

If any of those recruits follow him to Buffalo, that would be unpleasant.

"Linguist" is a very unique…

"Linguist" is a very unique name.  Possibly derived from Lindquist, or similar, as in Verne Lundquist. Swedish origin.

But "Clinkscale" is positively baffling.  There was Colonel Klink from Hogan's Heroes, so possibly a German origin?  But "scale" doesn't seem to translate to any German word I'm familiar with.  It's an odd one, that's for sure.

There was a language barrier…

There was a language barrier here so Maurice bolted for Buffalo.

 "...even at a smaller…

"...even at a smaller school like Buffalo."

Not knowing jack about the U. of Buffalo, I looked it up and it's actually a much bigger school than I thought it was.  Total enrollment in 2019 was 31,500.  That's gotta be one of the bigger, if not the biggest, MAC schools.  A good place to major in Linguistics!
