call me old fashion but I liked the "old" Bowl System when those games meant something and there was excitement in several cities all at once. Apparently the folks in the Bay Area aren't too interested, either.

money and practice time so it's a foolish question.

Check out the OSU OL. Did UM, NWest, Washington really pressure Haskins? Lots of time to look around so my first guess is their OL developed and ours did not. A good OL makes everyone around them look better including the coaches.

Second, Tressel should have been arrested for his shadowy dealings including email deletions, lying to the cops and payola. You don't reward a cheat and I wouldn't want any UM coach to fall to his personal level.

Third, Ohio is quite different than 49 other states. When an OSU football coach fucks up he's rewarded (Tressel to campus president) and meaningless citlzen panels used to punish Liar.

Of course, there's the academic level. A UM "c" is equivalent to an OSU "a". If you want to apply balance to the conferences equal the academic levels. Who was the great OSU quarterback who said "I didn't come here to attend classes, I want to play football." You want someone like that?

Looks like the raiders are following the path of the D. Lions after hiring Millen. And didn't you get a chuckle out of Mrs.Ford as her Lions are on the right path?

12/23/2018 - 3:27pm I noted a while ago that the…

I noted a while ago that the Army offense is JH-ball with the pass attack.. Army took Okie to overtime before losing the road game. So why was everyone bashing JH for a ball control offense yet praising Army for the same?

12/18/2018 - 1:03am You've got a lot of…

You've got a lot of assistant coaches relying on a salary to support their families, etc. Assistants run the show and HC's respect their opinions or else replace their assistants. I can't image, for example, an experienced OL coach favoring one guy over another except for skill levels. While I don't recall as many players leaving DURING the season it is what it is and if you can't accept being dropped a "level" during practice then you either work harder or quit. Has Solomon done anything during the past 2 seasons?

Fortunately for us, JH knows how to coach (although it might not show up all the time). His record is pretty air tight. He has some pretty good assistants with proven track records. If an assistant has one player over another JH will accept that as he should.

It's surprising how good a RB gets with a solid OL. And don't forget the walk-on players, either. No recruiting service can measure heart.

12/12/2018 - 12:58pm I enjoy Brown's defense but…

I enjoy Brown's defense but he has yet to demonstrate the ability to adjust his style. Indiana and OSU torched Brown with crossing and wheel routs. You know it was coming after the Indiana game yet there was no adjustment for OSU. That sucks. His defenses have major trouble holding a lead against PSU (when they had a running back) and of course OSU (you can't image the shit I continually take out here). Anyway I hope he stays but works with JH to create some interesting zone defenses because the key to Brown is DL rushing.

Oh, and JH should encourage his players to keep their mouths shut particularly before a big game.

11/25/2018 - 12:15pm You would have thought that…

You would have thought that Indiana was a wakeup call. Indiana and DeBorg for heaven's sake. Mr. Brown, it's okay to scatter in zone defense particularly in circumstances that warrant it. Poor Watson got picked on time and time again so that would indicate he needs helps, as do you.

Would Jimmy left his starting QB in the game?

11/24/2018 - 6:02pm so we're better than a…

so we're better than a middle-of-the-pack team but at least we're on top of the middle-of-the-pack. Need OL help and quickly. I think losses to Notre Dame and OSU mean it was a disappointing season.

11/24/2018 - 5:59pm without an OL JM couldn't…

without an OL JM couldn't use much of his playbook. Because the offense sucked the defense was on the field way too long and lost its "effectiveness." Tell me there's a DL who can dominate the middle. How come the TEs forgot to catch? How about catching a kickoff and running oob? Can't finger the HC for all that, can you?

If we have a "genius" as our DC then I'd hate to see an idiot DC.

11/24/2018 - 5:47pm predictable playing calling …

predictable playing calling = predictable results.

TEs forgot how to catch

OL looked as bad, or worse, than ND game. Hope there are two OTs in the herd

With the talented WRs why no hurry-up (air raid) offense in the plan?

However, the offense was at a major disadvantage due to Defense.

11/24/2018 - 5:35pm I don't blame the offense…

I don't blame the offense even though the OL was shakey and nearly got Patterson killed. The defense and the evil genius Don Brown, now that was the major problem. Last week was a wakeup call but OSU had tons better players and it showed. For the life of me how could a genius not figure out a way to stop slants? The DL didn't overwhelm anyone, the rush ends didn't and the DBs were definitely exposed. Doesn't zone defense stop some of those things?

that sucks. seems like the good ones die before the OSU game, right Bo?

11/18/2018 - 1:45pm In Bo's book he told a story…

In Bo's book he told a story of a WR that was wavering between AA and UCLA so Bo said" I'll make up your mind for you. Offer revoked" Instead the scholarship went to a hangeron named David Gallagher who became an all America and an All Pro with the Bears. The WR? He ended up at UM but was never great. Moral of the story? Be happy with the guys who want you and piss on those who don't. They're kids and entitled to change their minds. No one wants an unhappy recruit.

don't wear any gear. sat with them vs. TCU in Jerry's World a few months back (by accident, BTW). Never met a bigger group of assholes collectively and individually.

Do plan on attending the Skull Session before entering the stadium. If you like college bands it's a great experience.

11/17/2018 - 8:12pm I think I counted 11 Indiana…

I think I counted 11 Indiana first downs by QB runs or crossing routes. Now I'm not as smart as Don Brown but don't think that leaving a LB or viper in the middle to spy or cover crossing routes would have been a good idea?

11/15/2018 - 11:15pm why is everyone overlooking…

why is everyone overlooking Indiana? Didn't Harbaugh lose to Indiana before having to guarantee a win over OSU? Indiana always plays UM tough in AA.

A little aside but if you have a moment I'd appreciate a little thanksgiving prayer for the 12 patrons gunned down last night in Thousand Oaks. Many college kids in attendance at the local CW bard . At least 21 more remain in the hospital. It's being reported that several of the attendees were survivors of the Las Vegas shooting.

I could start at QB for the Irish and easily win this game. I'd probably pay to see Rutgers and FSU have at it.

Auburn just paid its DC $2.1 million so I guess Brown's worth $2.5. They'll find the money.

Glad Webber bit the one. With 3 running prospects, and Turner turning heads when healthy, I like next year's backfield. Hopefully they can block as well as Mr. Higdon.

Dumbtino was down two years ago, up last year and average this year. Harbaugh has his number (despite the record) but that won't chase him away. I'm already excited for next game.

I thought I just read a story complaining about the validity of "ratings" which I've long complained about. It's to sell services and rarely rates players accurately.

I had a former Oregon State running  back working for me. Because he had never sat in a stadium before, always playing in high school and college, he was totally amazed and surprised at the fan's intensity and almost hatred of the opponents. He couldn't get over that fact.

The "new" defense looks amazingly similar to the 0-16 defense of years old. But I love the attacking running game

The bitch can't announce; Millen still sucks, the OL can't block, the defense is absent and the blue pants are horrible. Outside of that same old Lions. Turn off the volume.

05/28/2018 - 1:17pm re crystal balls

every time an "expert" recruiter issues a crystal ball and the player announces for another schol, the crystal ball should be shoved up his ass. After a few "misses" the experts will become postal carriers or really accurate.

05/25/2018 - 7:59pm he played UM pretty tough

a few very last minute wins (or losses as the case might be) against the good giys including one loss prior to instant replay.

05/03/2018 - 4:31pm My meeting with Bo

I brought my two young daughters to Orange Coast College to meet up with Bo after a Rose Bowl practice. He was the last one walking to the three buses all filled with players, coaches and others. I said "coach I would like to introduce you to my daughters (they were 7 and 4). Bo took a knee and talked for nearly 5 minutes with my kids answering such questions as 'do you have horses in Michigan?'. Anyway you get the drift.

Michigan won that Rose Bowl, his last RB win.

A few months later I wrote Bo thanking him for taking the time to chat with my kids. I also told him their mother had just died and I talked about values coaching brings out such as teamwork, helping the other guy (or girl), don't lament the loss but focus on the positives, etc, etc.

So several years later I'm covering the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame with John McKay, bo, OJ Simpson, etc. and I introduced myself. He smiled and thanking me for writing!

04/27/2018 - 7:16pm Great trip

I made the journey 5 years ago. Normady is the 3rd most visited site for French people. when I was there the Star Spangled Banner was being played on chimes and everyone, and I mean everyone, stpped at attention during the entire playing. It was touching to see so many people from all over the world, pay their respects to the fallen.  It was a great tour.

But even more was the tour of WWI cemetaries and battle grouneds. 60,000 casualties in one day at the Somme. The American cemetary where Sam Hill of "where in the sam hill is xxx?" and 2 medal of honor winners are buried.. They let us lower the stars and stripes and fold the flag. It was an honor.

I envy the Wolverines on tour.

04/26/2018 - 10:53am what about Penny?

Unheralded but just a stud with 2,200 yards rushing. .4.46 in the 40; 5-11, 220 or about the same size as Sanders, returns kickoffs. I'd draft a DL in the first and Penny in the second with an OL in the third.
