Zach Harrison crystal ball update: Bill Kurelic to foggy

Submitted by Diagonal Blue on December 13th, 2018 at 7:38 PM

Had previously been on Michigan. This comes on the heels of Sam Webb saying this morning his Michigan crystal ball is not nearly as strong as it once was. Going to be a photo finish.

Let’s play pretend and say this Michigan football is “the business world” — which we all know it really is — to humor the little tykes.

A once proud and prestigious major corporation, 10 years removed from it highest earnings in its modern era, inexplicably developed a inability to out compete its biggest competitor — who had recently hired a new CEO.  After suffering a humiliating blunder its revered and respected CEO stepped down.

Seeking to inject new blood and innovation into the corporation, the board hired a hot shot CEO who had shown signs of success at a less prestigious, but well known corporation.  Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, earnings  plummeted to an historic low (2008-2010).  Once again, the board fired the CEO, and hired a new CEO who promised the faithful shareholders that he would do whatever necessary to restore the company to its former glory.   Initially, the earnings showed signs of resurgence (2011), but it was short lived, and within 3 years (2012-2014) earnings were hovering just off the historic low hit just 6 years before.

Once again, the board met and sought out a solution.  Facilities had been modernized, and capacity was still as high as ever, but they needed someone to lead them back.  After much ado, they hired their guy, a guy who had been there as a young man, whose father had worked for them, and who was esteemed throughout the industry.   When he was hired he immediately and aggressively struck took to the offensive, pushing the corporatation back into the limelight amazingly but with nothing really to show yet but buzz.  Shareholder waited and watched.

It was clear things were different immediately and in 2015 the company posted earnings that it had only posted once since 2006, and then in 2016 it did it again — something the corporation had not done since 2003-2004.  Earning so dipped slightly in 2017, changes were made to upper management, and earning shot back up, with the potential to finish just below its record high.  Those 48 month earnings under the latest CEO are the best since 1997-2000.

Yeah, the board would TOTALLY fire that guy because he hadn’t yet been able to out compete it’s biggest competitor — who just happens to be one of the most successful and well-known corporations in the industry — who never missed a beat while their corporation was nearly going under.

I'm officially putting in my crystal ball for Ohio State.

Sorry guys, but I've never been wrong on a crystal ball before.

In other news Isaiah Hole commented that the Dax flip a possibility, “better than not”. Hole and Wolverine Wire actually seem to have sources and attempts to do reporting, something MGoBlog really doesn’t do anymore. Around here recruiting is basically a rehash of established news or curated comments from other sites (a practice that draws characterizations of being a “hack” when other sites or bloggers do the same).  I am okay with that-obviously that is a direction MGoBlog has chosen, but no breaking stories, or even “informed speculation” here. I miss Tom VH.

What bugs me most is recruiting news, at best an imperfect science, has devolved so much into a platform for bashing everything Harbaugh and Michigan around here. I will continue to check in but it is usually an unpleasant and uninformed experience

I hate to say it, but I don't see it.  When things are trending away like this, it's really not a good sign.  I feel like he's more of a reach than getting Dax back, at this point.

Maizen/diagonaldumbass is always the first to post bad news.  I think he yanks his wanker while posting it.

Almost everyone on this board knew Drevno was an anchor. Almost everyone on this board knows Hamilton is an anchor. Tyrone Wheatley should be here and if not, Mike Hart should be coaching the RBs.

Ah, so we are back to the irrational anger about the son of the head coach, eh?  He gives us more on the recruiting trail than almost all of the offensive coaches.  Is he infallible?  No.  Is he among the top 5 problems with the offense?  IMHO, no.

He gives us more on the recruiting train than almost all of the offensive coaches

That's true, but that's saying something about the other guys... Warriner is the only other offensive recruiter listed IN THE TOP 50 IN THE B1G for 2019. That's incredibly terrible.

Back to Jay. In 2018 he was the 22nd best recruiter in the B1G according to 247. In 2017 Tyronne was the 4th best. Before you say that I'm cherry picking Michigan's worst year of recruiting, Jay is projected as the 6th best this year - though a lot of that is due to Carbonnet, which everyone will agree was a huge win for Jay.

I'd say the jury is still out on Jay as some sort of ace recruiter who absolutely should get a pass based on his recruiting chops. So far Wheetley was better and better qualified for actual coaching. On the other hand, if Jay can land a Carbonnet every year I'll shut up about him being a nepotism hire.

Regardless of how you feel about Jay, it's pretty clear that the offensive staff is filled with guys who don't recruit well enough. One of the big knocks on Warinner is that he's not a good recruiter - he's the second best on our team on that side of the ball. I hope whoever takes over the WRs can at least make it into the list of top 50 recruiters in their own conference.

Some guy on twitter "my name is earl" some shit like that is claiming that his "source" says that there is a less than 10% chance Dax flips back to us. Idk if this guy has legit sources or not but with that and this Zach news...not good bob

Why is there always a new (just created account) sticking up for whatever one of Maizen's accounts did the OP? It invariably gets at least a call out from Stephenrjking and probably LSA, and ends the thread with a combined 125 downvotes.

I've never really thought he was coming here but that's not out of some apocalyptic view of the program. My confidence in getting him here has always been and remains at about 5%. I mean, maybe but I always assumed he'd go to OSU.

Admittedly, there was that small time about 6 weeka ago where ballz were flying in, UM felt to be on a rocket trajectory and OSU slowly imploding where I felt about 50% confident. Still never thought OSU was out of it but really felt there was a chance. That week or two went without a verbal and I dropped back down to what I've always thought.

I trult think Urban leaving is a benefit for them as much as The Game was. I don't know how any single game can cause a 180 in the mind of anyone (let alone a recruit deciding his future) but it has for seemingly everyone.

I'll be stunned if he comes to UM so no real gut punch for me on that front. It'll suck but what hasn't sucked for 15 years at this point?

Pretty sure there was a forum on 11 warriors that was all about Harrison not being all that great, at least when it appeared he was all blue. Funny how that narrative changes. ‘Crootin indeed.

Once the Buckeye guy posted how he was going to make his announcement, that was a giveaway that it most likely will not go our way. Usually the team that they are most likely to go to breaks news like that.

This is how Red Sox Nation felt from 1919 through 2003. (I lived in frustration through a little more than half of those years.)

Michigan fans just have to hope that they don't have to wait 86 years from 1997 until the football team wins another national championship.  I haven't been a Michigan Wolverines fan for that many years, but I hope to be around to see that day.  Go Blue!

The greatest failure of Mgoblog is that so many whine to moderators to ban people, rather than just letting them be a foil.

Also, that so many self-proclaimed grown men/college graduates/gadabouts with wonderful jobs and families relegate themselves to whiny children whenever someone they don't like says something they don't like.

This is a hilarious response from someone who spends so much time as a troll.  The personal attack is a particularly mature touch, really adding a lot of validity to your well-reasoned point.

Do you really think it's unreasonable for a message board to have standards about who can post?  And do you really believe that a guy that is universally reviled and posts nothing but whatever scraps fit his unhealthy obsession fits the standard of a good poster?  How do you think MGoBlog should determine who can post?

You've only been here two weeks (well, at least with this troll account) so you don't remember that this blog used to have standards that made it a better place.  But your posting history clearly demonstrates that you don't want this blog to be a better place, and your vitriol over an honest and benign post about getting rid of DB's ability to post to the board proves that you are either:

  1. Another Maizen/DB/Shawn account
  2. A sad little troll from another fanbase
  3. Or a person in need of serious help

In any of these cases, I feel sorry for you, and will pray for you.  Happy Holidays!

Going to chime in here...

What's hilarious is that you've convinced yourself that not only am I person who hasn't posted on this board in two years, but anyone who agrees with me or has a newer account is also me. Your paranoia over something that is not only incorrect but also so trivial is embarrassing. Suggestion: instead of hijacking every thread incorrectly labeling people "trolls" every time they post something you don't like, restrain yourself and don't post at all, or if you do feel the need to add to the discussion stay on the topic at hand. Because you're constant bitching is just sad.

DB, whether you are Maizen, Shawn, or a clone really makes no difference.  Your pathological commitment to your narrative is below the standards of MGoBlog.  Your straw man responses are just as bad.

Let's fisk your silly straw men:

  • I'm not paranoid.  Just want the old MGoBlog, where these sad little posts weren't allowed to exist.  That is perfectly reasonable and did, in fact, used to be the standard of this blog.
  • I did not hijack this thread at all--only you and your alter ego/clone/other sick person The Chancre responded to my reasonable post.  Just made a passing statement about how sad it is that you and your clones can still post.
  • The definition of internet troll: "An Internet troll is a member of an online social community who deliberately tries to disrupt, attack, offend or generally cause trouble within the community by posting certain comments, photos, videos, GIFs or some other form of online content."  This is exactly you and your clones.  Whether you are aware of this fact or not only hinges on your mental state.
  • Constant bitching?  Take a look at my posting history.  The overwhelming majority of my posts are honest, balanced, reasoned responses to whatever topic is presented.  Some are critical of Michigan.  Sometimes I try to be funny or amuse myself.  Your history?  Entirely focused on a singular narrative that is the textbook definition of bitching.

Feel free to actually reply to the questions in my previous post, or, you know, any of the actual content here.  Or go ahead and continue personal attacks and straw men so you can stay on your topic.  Whatever.  I'll keep contributing to the board and will continue to request a return to higher posting standards.  Happy Holidays, and look in the mirror and say hello to The Chancre for me!

If the kid goes OSU because we got destroyed for 62 by them this year, than so be it.  OSU was blown out by Purdue!  They were destroyed by Iowa last year.  Blowouts happen.  This was just shit timing and against the worst possible opponent.

Unfortunately, we've been on the wrong side of the coin flip games over the past 20 years against them, and the years where OSU was obviously better, they destroyed us. This year...I just don't know, was a tire fire from kickoff. It was just a snowball of being out coached .  Their Plan A worked, their adjustments to our Plan B were spot on.  Don Brown was simply out coached and while that is a rare event, it happened.

It happened last year as well against PSU where we had our doors  blown off by a generational talent (Barkley) in a with a wicked game plan.  If anything, Harrison should be excited at the prospect of early playing time with Winovich and Gary on to the next level - Both of whom were injured BTW, adding to our pass rushing woes in the game.

It just sucks that the Universe seems bent on shitting on us for the past two decades.  BPONE is strong here, and I can now empathize (never thought I'd say this) with how OSU fans must have felt during the 90's.

Losing to OSU, the last game of the season, for several years and counting has really really really hurt this program beyond belief.  It is the last thing that people remember for weeks and months.  The season by all accounts has been a success but losing to OSU whether by "this much" or a blow out is damaging.

I can't stand OSU.  They don't lose close games and they blow you out.  Here's to Ryan Day and the new OSU to finally have their down years.  They are WAY overdue.  Every if not most major programs have had their dry spells but OSU has remained untouched.  What gives?!?

Rug Dog

December 14th, 2018 at 8:34 AM ^

Well they don't have dumpster fires for coaching searches that set the program back for a decade for one.  Secondly, they don't have a coach leaving and telling players they should transfer/enter the draft on the way out the door because they don't like the next guy to set him up for failure either.

JPC

Losing to OSU at the end of the year sucks badly. Following that up by looking completely clueless in the last two bowl games is even worse.

It's one thing to get spanked by a clearly better OSU. OSU is better than Michigan right now. It's entirely another thing to look like you didn't practice when taking on a very mediocre USC.

Lossing to OSU killed our championship drive but losing to Florida to go 10-3, again ending on a two-loss streak might be even worse.
