Zach Boren's take on new coaches at OSU

Submitted by restive neb on

We all remember a Boren leaving Michigan for OSU, with criticism that the new staff lacked family values and used naughty language.  For that reason, I was amused by this paragraph from Dr. Saturday:

Meet the new boss, swears more than the last boss. Ohio State players are already feeling the energy of a new, younger coaching staff, too, most notably in the language ("They might cuss a little bit more," according to tight end Jake Stoneburner) and the intensity level in general. "I don't think we'll change our offense one bit; I don't think we'll change our defense one bit," fullback Zach Boren told the Columbus Dispatch. "I just think what's going to change is our attitude. It's going to be a more exciting attitude. ... We're going to come out and wear our emotions on our sleeve and let it go."

you're a hypocrite if you say something different than your brother? Cmon guys...

When the subject is "family values" and swearing: yes, he is a hypocrite. To the Borens, "family values" means their family values whoever is giving them the most perks. It was obviously never about swearing.

I did not call Zach Boren a hypocrite in my post, and I don't think his comment indicates hypocrisy.  What I was stating is that the quote is indicative of other things.  It has long been speculated that the "bad language" by the coaches was an excuse Justin used for leaving, because he didn't get the treatment he felt he deserved.  That the younger brother has no problem with a coaching staff that swears a lot more gives further indication (not definitive proof) that Justin's comments were not completely honest, perhaps even to himself.

That osu has replaced coaches of 55-57 with guys 35-40 and how that has injected some energy. Looking at our hc, oc and dc, I hope um plans ahead and gets some young guys on staff for 8-10 years down the road.

I'm happy for the Boren clan that they were able to square their family values with the guy who replaced the guy who lied about recruiting violations to the NCAA, the compliance department at OSU, and the fans for about a year.

I have a brother and although we were raised by the same parents with the same morals/values etc...we still are different people and do have separate viewpoints on things. I can see how one might think this is hypocritical but I look at it as two young men with the freedom to make stupid decisions by attending that school down in ohio. No big deal, if the coaches are cussing now wait until the fall when the fit really hits the shan!!!!

Whoa.whoa watch it Don, recruits and players are people too. I know its hard to comprehend for people like you who don't have the opportunity to imteract with these boys, but I always remind myself that these are just YOUNG BOYS and we shouldn't be two critical of them.

Even though mike vrabel has never coached before he is being hyped to no end. The drop in production is going to be huge, just because he can't match the production that they have gotten from fickell the last few years but no one in columbus will admit it. They also think prospects won't be able to pass up the chance to play for vrabel "because he has three superbowl rings"

The 2009 ND/Mich game was on BTN today and you could tell that Weis wanted to show some emotion... but all he could do was cross his arms and look sad; his obesity caused bad knees hampering him. That's what you get for sitting in a chair in the oc box.

Rather than out-coaching or out-playing their opponent, they are going to out-attitude and out-emotion them.  Let's see how that plays out...

I was always under the impression that Justin cited a lack of family values due to the fact that Rich Rod refused to offer his younger brother Zach a scholarship.  The swearing was not the main issue.

but I was thinking he complained of a lack of family values, and cited the language as an example, and we all inferred that it was the lack of an offer to his brother (and the lack of special treatment to help with his dad's business) that was the truth behind his statements.

Yes, but one thing that helped us infer that the language thing was bogus was the story about Mike Boren swearing his head off at Justin during HS football games (on his way in to halftime, Mike was getting all over him screaming at people and swearing... the cops had to intervene in at least one instance.  Not real "family values" sounding.).

It seemed pretty clear that the swearing was a smoke screen.

I know he plays for OSU but he is a good FB and a solid football player. Whatever your feelings about his brother, all of the animus against Zach Boren seems missplaced.
