between hard work, focus, and athletics and is able to make it out of the at-risk pool, it will be worth it. Would that all dads were Harbaugh-like in their leadership skills.

UM has a wide range of academic involvements with the city of Detroit, and it makes makes perfect sense for athletics to be part of the mix.

Howard Schnellenberger at Miami and Pete Carroll at USC did similar things within their local respective urban communities. They connected very well with the citizens there and the recruits parents trusted these coaches because they invested in their community.

This will benefit local kids and hopefully set up a recruiting pipeline to inner city kids.

Howard went into kids homes that the Joe Paternos of the world would avoid. Pete would mentor kids in Compton on how to be accountable and responsible.

Under Howard, I don't remember the U being dirty, those accusations came up with Jimmy Johnson and Erickson. As for Pete, yes, we all know the story.

However, both coaches knew how to build impactful relationships with their local inner city community.

If you don't think that Jim H is doing this to establish a recruiting foothold, you are being naive. Everything Jim has done, is to benefit Michigan in some capacity.
