Your premature Friday drinking thread
Fluffed off work today (sales calls) and flyfished the Pere Marquette. Put a couple beautiful steelhead and browns on the beach (released) and did a quasi-bar tour home. Nothing risky or illegal - had a Knob at nice little hole in the wall in Custer, then a Maker's near home, with a beer stop in between.
Listened to the Clash all the way down 31, and after checking in with office, got in a weekend fame of mind.
We'll beat OSU by 8 or more Sunday, don't worry your pretty little head. Now enjoying a Fat Tire or three with plans for a Lagavulin (and probably bed) by 10.
Beat Ohio, and have a great weekend.

Surly Bender. A phenomenal oatmeal stout from a brewery in Minneapolis.
Celebrating an important life event that I cannot disclose here because some people on here know who I actually am. But it's good news. Cheers.

Have you had any of the beers from Stevens Point out there? I know they say they sell in Michigan, but I've never seen them, and they sound like a really good brew.
January 11th, 2013 at 6:53 PM ^
I really dislike their beers. They are watery and weak in flavor.
January 11th, 2013 at 7:05 PM ^
Ahh, that's too bad. I hear a bottle of Stevens awakens ancient feelings, though.
January 11th, 2013 at 6:56 PM ^
My mistake. Bender is an American brown ale. The other beer I had tonight was an oatmeal stout.
January 11th, 2013 at 7:14 PM ^
is surly sold in Michigan?
January 11th, 2013 at 7:16 PM ^
No, only Minnesota that I'm aware of. I stock up when I'm in MPLS
January 11th, 2013 at 8:05 PM ^
I've been able to get my hands on a few Surly brews through gray market or online ordering. Best I've had so far is the Abrasive Ale which is a world class IPA. Also have enjoyed the Furious Ale and sampled a bit of the SŸX at a bottle share.
January 11th, 2013 at 8:14 PM ^
Agreed, I'd put Surly right up there with the best of Wisconsin (lakefront, Milwaukee brewing co., new Glarus)

Tweets from Michigan Hockey players. If they don't win at least one, I might have to break out the hard stuff-
Enough of the bull shit...getting 6 points this weekend. #letsgoblue
Nothing less than 6 points this weekend. New season starts tonight.#GoBlue.
EDIT: It's Jagerbomb time.

King of beers since 1876 and drink of choice for a great woman who was a second mother to me and passed today. Enjoy every day!

Beautiful. When my grandfather passed I inherited a bottle of Blue that he owned, I'm saving the last of it to drink on his birthday.

The quote from "Batman Forever" popped into my head as I left work, "Ah. Fortune smiles...another day of wine and roses, or in your case, beer and pizza."
So, Hacker-Pschorr and Papa Romano's it has been this evening. Nice, relaxing start to the weekend though.
January 11th, 2013 at 6:54 PM ^
I've been doing a lot more Scotch lately. Sometimes the good stuff on the rocks, and sometimes blended (usually Chivas or Johnny) with a little ginger ale. So I'm deciding between Chivas 18 with Canada Dry or Macallan's 12 without.

Cool story bro about your OP - I learned how to water ski on Pere Marquette Lake.
January 11th, 2013 at 7:07 PM ^
was a good afternoon. "Guided" a client (I'm not a guide, will ever be one), and his 13 year old son. Boy Trevor landed his first steelhead (on a flyrod no less), and his Dad and I connected big time, which was important (and the whole point of the day).
The coolest part was at one point Dad quit fishing entirely, and was completely focused on his kid - making the right casts and mends, and when he finally connected it was pure bedlam.
Dad's a Sparty, btw. If all Sparties were as cool and decent as he, there'd be no rivalry.
January 11th, 2013 at 7:09 PM ^
Sounds like an awesome day. Bet it was good for business.
January 12th, 2013 at 12:01 AM ^
that's the thought anyway. Let's hope sparty don't spart.

Bud-wei-ser.. Damn, I miss those frogs..
January 11th, 2013 at 6:59 PM ^
Drinking some Ron Barcelo Imperial rum right now, just straight. I could get used to this.
January 11th, 2013 at 7:04 PM ^
Have you had Ron Zacapa? My wife's family is from Guatemala and they drink that stuff like water, but it's honestly some of the best rum I've ever had.
January 11th, 2013 at 7:00 PM ^
Vodka and cranberry, I gots the cycles.
January 11th, 2013 at 7:03 PM ^
Either you're being serious and that's weird, or you're joking. And still weird.

Glenfiddich after the kids go to bed.

January 11th, 2013 at 7:39 PM ^
Found something different in the store today. Blue Moon Valencia Grove Amber. I can't really place what it tastes like but it's not bad.
And it's never premature to start drinking. It's 5 o'clock somewhere!
January 11th, 2013 at 7:23 PM ^
Torpedoes at happy hour. On to blueberry Stoli and a splash of sprite zero. Kind of girly, but tasty. Beat Ohio!
January 11th, 2013 at 7:25 PM ^
Glass of Malbec at home and then off to a Brit gastropub with Indian food and legit ESBs with the lady.
January 11th, 2013 at 7:28 PM ^
Some good Chicago deep dish pizza at Pal Joey's with Blue Moon for dinner, then some Two Hearted Ale or Dirty Bastard later in the evening.
January 11th, 2013 at 7:33 PM ^
Had surgery for a knee issue that has had me sidelined since the Nebraska game, so I'm on hydrocodone and high dosage acetaminophen. Feeling good though, all things considered. Watching Season 2 of Dexter; never watched the show except when my mom, sister or girlfriend happened to have it on, so I started this break. I'm drinking orange juice, water and maybe some maize Kool-Aid (lemonade).
Can't wait to be back to working out in a week or so. It's been like ten weeks since I've been able to get a decent cardio workout in.
January 11th, 2013 at 7:35 PM ^
On tap to cut the days dust, them over to my buddy's for some Kraken and ginger. UM 73 - Ohio 61.

Drambuie, without ice!
January 11th, 2013 at 9:23 PM ^
I'm usually on a continuous Drambuie drip from noon to midnight every Saturday, October thru March. I think you could tap me in the spring like a maple tree.
