Yesterday's ESPNrecruiting chat

Submitted by ATLalumni on

So on WolverineNations' recruiting chat yesterday, there were more than a few people who tried comparing Treadwell to the Diamond situation yesterday.  Tom vehemently denied this twice, his last response looking like this:

Bobby (Detroit)

The Treadwell/Diamond comparison isn't too bad looking at it from a high level, you hear the "oh he's almost a lock for UM" for so long, then boom. hopefully a boom in the other direction though this time.

Yeah, but a closer view I'm telling you is not the same. Trust me.

Cryptic TomVH?

My 2 cents is that Treadwell knows he wants to commit but is playing the numbers game.  He wants to take visits but he can't once he commits.  He knows there are 2 open spots and no rush to commit unless one fills up.

I personally don't think it's like the Diamon situation, because the closer the time came with Jordan, the more rumblings there were about Stanford.  I don't know if Tom knows a whole lot more than he is telling (silent?) but I think the OP's assessment is probably accurate.

Would love to get him in this class.  He's a game changer.

that a spot will be held for him.

So if you are a 17 year old stud football player, and have a spot reserved for you at the university you are almost set on verballing to, wouldn't you take a few visits to other schools and enjoy the opportunity to get wined and dined (eh, maybe no wine)?

Why do you constantly feel the need to scrutinize other peoples posts?  Does it make you feel good?

Seriously, it is getting old.  Regardless if there are holes in their content, reading your pompous reply's are far more unreadable.

Please stop.

On Gameday???? Not too many I'd think, both are pretty good college towns with fantastic crowds and gameday experiences even given the unexciting surroundings of the rest of the state.

As a guy who has spent a little time in Stillwater I would say there are some pretty darn looking good women there. If I was a star athlete I wouldn't mind taking a visit there to enjoy the "talent".

Agreed, there are a lot of really nice looking young women in that town and they all like to hit the town as dolled up as anything.  It's a great place to go girl-watching, not as good for picking up, I usually had to pretend I was a student there in order to get anywhere.

It's not like Ann Arbor is Southern Cal, Clearwater, Charlotte or Annapolis...I lived there for 14 years. It's a college town that's a half hour away from a struggling major city.

UofM is UofMn, and Ann Arbor is nice...but it's not for everyone and it's not the best thing ever. The fact that people talk down on other college towns has always made me scratch my head. Since when did A2 become so amazing that you'd be an idiot not to live there?

There are plenty of reasons to choose Michigan, and Ann Arbor is one of them...but it's not head and shoulders above every other college town no matter who is being the judge.

with two spots left, I can't help but wonder why we gave one spot to a long snapper. I know, shouldn't question the coaches.

Because the coaches have filled all of the spots needed at each position, and they needed a long snapper because their 2012 candidate was taken away by Michigan State?

You cannot just hand out scholarships to the best available players without also considering current roster spots and future needs, and obviously a long snapper was on the "needs" list for Michigan in the 2013 class.

I don't know why everyone always gets so pessimistic.  He stated that Michigan was # 1 then he stated that they were the clear cut leader, but he wanted to take visits to ensure that he was going to Michigan.

Ummmmmm....

Am I the only one who thought Tom's statement was referring to allegations that Diamond wanted more than a full ride to Auburn? I've seen this alluded to numerous times by people more knowledgeable than myself. I know some fans get all upset when somebody brings this up, but the way he phrased it seemed to be about something a little more secretive than just comparing the two guys' timelines.

I mean, I don't see this as Diamond-like anyway. Diamond never really got anywhere near as close to committing as Treadwell is. He extended his recruitment past signing day. He ventured to every imagineable team across the country. Regardless of the benefits discussion, I don't see Treadwell as Diamond-like AT ALL.

Yes, you are the only one who thinks that and you didnt need to bring up those allegations at all.

Diamond was a casualty of his coach's recruiting rules (making them wait until signing day), did it hurt to loose a guy you were in on for so long yes but at the same time the writing was there on the walls those last few months when his wandering eye kept...wandering.

LT's relationship with Michigan commits has been outstanding this entire time and the fact he wants to take some visits is unsuprising for someone of his caliber.  Lets just hope he doesnt take his mom along ala Ty Issac.

is a 17/18 year old kid who is going to make the biggest decision in his life to date.  If he takes a little longer to decide, I am okay with it.  I would rather him be 100% blue when he commits rather than decommit weeks later.

At this point it seems like Treadwell is 90% Michigan and is just trying to find something he might like better. I mean, he's been up to A2 how many times? None to Oklahoma as far as I know. It's tough to tell what a place is going to be like if you've never visited.

Personally I don't think OU or OSU have what Treadwell's looking for. Not going to find a coach out there like Hoke, not going to find a better/tighter class of recruits, and especially isn't going to find a Shane Morris.
