*shrugs*
I'm officially numb to bad football news.
I wish I could be...
That'd be like saying you're numb to air & water for most of my life.
This one has me feeling like I'm in a bad marriage - and I'm Catholic!
Really? An 18 year old kid changes his mind and we lose ours? Can we please get a grip.
Dude, if it was that simple we'd be disappointed. But this was brought on by admissions, so I'm pissed!
I harbored (probably pointless) dreams of becoming competitive nationally again, competing with osu, winning another B10 title.
This one player & the process of not admitting him makes me absolutely certain that's never happening again.
If that's an overreaction in your mind, so be it...?♂️
I'm eagerly awaiting you showing me all the successes that prove me wrong!

I hope this thread becomes a rhetorical battle about academics/academics featuring 2007 Stanford Harbaugh and 2021 Michigan Harbaugh.
April 16th, 2021 at 10:31 AM ^
2021 Michigan Harbaugh hasn't said a thing about this yet, and I doubt he ever will.
But this was apparently a fuck-up by his staff & Michigan's intransigent admissions dept.
If they're willing to just kiss off players of this ability over this type of administrative paper jam, there is no hope of ever competing for titles again.
In fact, mathematically, it's literally only a matter of a handful of years til the spurious claim of being "the winningest" will be gone too.
These people - the coaches, the staff, the AD & admissions - are supposed to work together!
That clearly is not The Michigan Way!
Somebody cue the fucking depressing otter thing we used to do during the RichRod era.
Also - Somebody for the love God tell me how Giles Jackson transferring would affect X Worthy not coming to UM? Also how is the admissions part of the enrollment process not figured by now? Whether he did or didn't qualify, should that be a debatable topic mid-April?
They were friends and Giles was a big part of recruiting him to Michigan. Then he left because he was clearly dissatisfied with something. So that’s not gonna help convince the kid to stick around at the very least
Thanks. That helps make sense of the situation. Still sucks though.
Worthy's statement says "Due to circumstances beyond my control" he will be asking for release from the LOI he signed in December with full intent on enrolling for Winter semester.
This is NOT a case of a flighty kid changing his mind because another player left the program. His mother Mama Flash was a constant pro-Michigan presence on social media. They were all in!
This Top 100 player wants to play for Michigan AND THEY WON'T LET HIM!
This may be my proverbial last straw that breaks the Camel's dam!
I was in the Stadium for the historic upset in The Game in '69. I have followed Michigan football with a passion bordering on lunacy since!
They're just literally breaking my spirit! This great hoops class Juwan is assembling - how sure are we we'll see them in A2, or they'll face admissions issues which force them to seek other options?
Why is Michigan the only school that persists in conducting itself above & beyond any reasonable standards, while pretending it still intends to compete at the highest levels of college football?
Anyone have anything helpful or encouraging - at all?!
I have followed Michigan football sports since 1969, and at times the Michigan arrogance of this admissions stuff is stunning, especially since college is suppose to be for giving someone a chance. I’ve talked to many grads and they say well at least we don’t compromise our admissions for the football program, that’s BS an excuse for not winning, as smart as this university likes to tell everybody they are get the admissions figured out and give kids a chance you might be surprised at how well they do. And if they don’t then take actions for ineligibility rules. I’m just blown away by this and I know this won’t be received well by many, but I know of student athletes that couldn’t get into Michigan and went to other universities and did very well with careers that would make any parent proud.
The student athlete admissions continue to baffle me, so I have no idea as to why Worthy was not admitted for the winter semester.
Losing this kid is big, period. I too have been following Michigan football since 1969 and I can only hope this team will exceed what is already low expectations. So, no; I have no words of encouragement.
Why is Michigan the only school that persists in conducting itself above & beyond any reasonable standards
If by standards you mean GPA and test score, Michigan doesn't. Michigan acts like most any other non-ivy school and the NCAA clearing house standard is the standard.
The football team is not pulling down a 3.8 GPA/32 ACT like the rest of us had to.
"NCAA clearing house standard is the standard."
I'm not sure how many times this lie has to be corrected before people stop saying it.
Because it's not a lie.
Sorry it upsets your idealistic view of Michigan football.
Well you're going to be proven wrong when Xavier Worthy is playing for some other team next Fall 0970!
Check back in & give us an update on the Clearinghouse then, would ya!?

Reading comprehension. Try it some time.
I never wrote that X's grades were in question. By all accounts there are no problems there.
What I DID write is Michigan student athletes, particularly football players are not held to the same admissions standards as the general student body to get in.
I wrote that because your ilk seems to think Michigan holds its student athletes to a higher standard than the rest of the world. Cry babies like you like to leverage it as a constant excuse why Michigan doesn't win.
X should be here. Something else happened.
April 16th, 2021 at 10:37 AM ^
Friend-o that was more a case of crap writing than bad reading comprehension!
If your belief is "something else happened" then THAT'S your lead! Perhaps elaborate on that?
Not clearinghouse bullshit!
Cam, keep thinking it's a lie.
It can be seen right on the UM website:
"Using the sliding scale found on the NCAA Eligibility Quick Reference Guide, the minimum GPA required to receive athletics aid, practice and compete is 2.000."
I think you’ll find that it’s not so much the GPA as which high school classes Admissions accepts.
wasn’t there a case some years back where a recruit had gone to an online school to clean up his grades? Except the online school was well known to Admissions for extremely lax standards/ethics.
Michigan doesn't hold itself above the rest. Double digit kids enroll early every year. Something went wrong here and nobody really knows what but its just as likely to be on Worthy's school as it is on Michigan's admissions office.
Also if you believe so strongly the admissions office should be completely bending over backwards in every way why consider them normal students. I assume you are also in favor of paying them correct?
My response to that ak was beautifully stated by Walter White when the dude realized he was Heisenberg:
You're God Damn Right!
I have to assume that transfer admissions is the impediment to Marcus Carr being on-board already....
I’m not sure this is completely accurate. He wasn’t able to enroll early. He could’ve joined the team in the summer with the other non-early enrollment freshmen, but has decided to look elsewhere.
I'm proud we have admission standards. And I'll bet you everyone Howard signed for next year has already qualified and will show up on campus.
If there's enrollment issues, and issues getting him on campus, wouldn't that have been a Dudek issue?
I was wondering this very thing. I have no idea the relationship but if there is a connection, the resignation makes sense.
From my understanding, Dudek made sure everything ran smoothly for recruits visiting campus and getting onto campus, and enrolling.

Fuck everything
April 15th, 2021 at 12:55 PM ^
Meh - how about fuck our admissions office who fucked over this kid, thus leading us to this fucking nightmare?
#AllTheFucks
Why do we think the admissions office fucked him over? It seems like if admissions is an issue, that's more on the player than on us.
It has come out multiple times that the admissions office was the problem in preventing him from enrolling early.
He potentially was wavering before, but UM was still able to secure his commitment after that debacle.
His grades/test scores are NOT the problem.
If it's not grades or scores, then how else would admissions have a problem?
I will never fault the school for having higher academic standards than most (that matters more to me than winning football games, in general), but if the issue is some bureaucratic nonsense... that is a problem.
Edit: I find it entertaining to look back at this post and see that several people have downvoted it. I suppose those parties *don't* want Michigan to be a top-tier highly-competitive academic institution, where admission is fought to achieve and not just doled out to anyone. Maybe they confuse it with another in-state university?
His grades and test scores were (by all accounts) above and beyond the minimums REQUIRED for Early Entry. Yet, he was still denied early entry.
Our admissions department failed this young man.
But my question is how could that be - was it missed deadlines, improper paperwork, some kind of ncaa/admissions issue, ...? How could the admissions office be at fault if the admissions standards were met?
I'm not trying to defend them - just genuinely curious.
I hear ya here. I think the point is, when I graduated high school and went to college, I sent my ACTs and transcripts and filled out the application, and that was that. I think CRG is getting at that point, as in, what we know of the process is practically what I just said. So where is the hang up? Is it with a specific class? And why does it take more than a few weeks to get to the bottom of it? Idk who is at fault, and as much as I want us to get all the recruits all the time, I also recognize these as young men making a huge decision and hope they all make the one that is right for them. But I really hope that whatever happened gets solved moving forward. In addition to losing a recruit, it’s just a rough life for these young men to change their direction on a dime like that.
He might not have met minimum requirements on things like total number of language semesters taken or any other number of additional requirements outside of grades and test scores
But something like that would (should) have been identified at or before the time of applying. Unless the admissions standards changed from a year ago, nothing should have been a surprise regarding the requirements.
This is not the 1st time the admissions office has dealt with athletes and / or the athletic department over admissions. I am sure there is someone(s) in the athletic department whose sole role(s) are to work with the admissions office AND the kids and their schools to make sure things are progressing correctly for admissions.
So to blindly blame the admissions office is foolish as they also know how important it is to get athletes from all sports admitted and we are not nearly as tough as say Stanford, if I were a betting man, I would say there may be some issue on his high school side or not getting enough minimum credits to meet the U of M requirement as someone else guessed. Once again, these requirements are known by the athletic department and it is up to the kid (and his high school) to get the right things done.
IIRC, Demar Dorsey never got into any other Division 1 school, so if our admissions office was SO TOUGH, Ole Miss, Auburn, etc., would have welcomed him with open arms, but I am assuming their was something in his academic background that did not work out for those schools either.
It is my understanding (and is echoed throughout this thread) that he was actually finally enrolled - so he met whatever minimums that were put before him.
However, he was still denied early entry and the rest of the mess (maybe Giles' departure?) hastened his final decision to move on.
Admissions started the shit-ball rolling downhill, however.

"It has come out multiple times that the admissions office was the problem in preventing him from enrolling early."
"It has come out" is doing a lot of work here. There hasn't been one single official statement by any UM office about what the hell happened here, and it's highly unlikely there will be any. We know Harbaugh won't say a damn thing about it one way or the other.
In that information vacuum, we are left with people on the internet claiming they know something.

Weird first double-post, but I'll take advantage of it to say Fuck the Admissions office once more.
Have some doublemint twins for your first double post.

Well that's less than ideal, guess the rumors were true
Kid's tape looks amazing
Wonder what he means by "circumstances beyond my control"
Does that have something to do with qualifying academically? I'm out of the loop
April 15th, 2021 at 12:43 PM ^
Well, I mean, you don't really have to "guess" that the rumors were true anymore, right?
April 15th, 2021 at 12:51 PM ^
Yeah, all the "rumors" lately seem to be unconfirmed fact.
I don't blame the kid. I love the University of Michigan, and root for a victory every Saturday, but If my son was a top 10-15 WR recruit I would not advise him to play at Michigan. The lack of any quarterback development and underutilization of what looks to be solid WR talent would be highly concerning to me.
