it hasn't been that much different than normal if you don't care about the incredibly inane questions asked by most media anyways.  Except for the few times coaches, recruits, etc. got to attend practices and share their thoughts, but I can do without a column from Drew Sharp personally.

Does anyone still get their sports news from local affiliates? Also, that's the first time I've ever seen Stoney after years and years of hearing him on local radio. Didn't expect that hair color.

To be fair, WXYZ generally does a pretty good job with high school sports in the Detroit area and really does OK as far as giving a broad-brush type view of what is going on with local college and professional teams. If that's all you were interested in, it works out. I personally don't go to the local affiliate for that level of information because, being obsessive and data-driven, I want better information.

Anyone care to explain what this submarine thing is I keep hearing about. I was completely out of the news loop until recently and can't figure out what this term is referring to. Is this the new term for media silence?

I think the most damning thing is that I don't feel like we're actually missing anything. It's not like normal sports reporters do much actual reporting now anyway. Just cut up some useless coach speak quotes and put some puns in there, try and mildly annoy TE fanbase to get clicks...it's actually been nice to not have threads about those kinds of articles. The only thing I miss is more insider type substantial info. But even without it, the UM blogosphere is doing a great job of actually writing about the team without coach speak quotes.

Its cute when kids beg and beg, then get mad when you wont let them open a gift before Christmas morning...Not so cute when adults pout because they dont have preseason practice info...Shut your little mouth and wait until Christmas morning, you little twerp

In the old days under Carr the submarine was called Fort Schembechler and I don't remember the local media comlaining about it a quarter as much.

Look, I understand that it makes their jobs more difficult but it's not like they won't have plenty to talk about once the season starts. And they had a whole summer of articles to write about satellite camps, Parisian vacations, and all sorts of other things. I don't think four weeks of silence from South Campus is going to make all the media outlets in the area lay off their sports staffs.

Rose comes off like a whiner.

The media deserves access so they can do their jobs and the fans deserve info because they pay for the pricy tickets and are the reason for big TV deals, blah, blah, blah...

If Harbuagh turns this program around and they start winnng games, the fans won't give a crap about knowing who the third string left tackle was during yesterday's practice.

Back during the 10 year Bo/Woodywar, we hardly got any informatin on what was going on outside of the games, and we sure seemed pretty happy about everything concerning the football program.

I might have a morsel of sympathy for these clowns if they were actually journalists.  Modern reporting is one or two people actually doing some investigating, and 20 others writing articles citing their tweets and findings.

As big as an asshat that he is, you better believe if Adam Schefter's job was to cover UM, he would have a metaphorical scuba suit on trying to get any info about the submarine; not whining about how unfair it is on tv.

for a so called rant they arent passes giving open to the practice and interview many players but they burnt those bridges with stories like stretch gate by the freep and so on in the past. But also they seemed paranoid at the idea of being out scooped by social media or message boards, and blogs who will try to do investigating reporting were they don't. But also when the coaching search happend it was broke by premium content message boards and bloggers while they sat on their hands but now want passes to watch their practices.
