Wow, TE Chase Allen trending fairly hard to Iowa State?

I thought he was the lockiest locks of recrutis left.  This HAS to be good news for the Cali duo, right?

His dad, Terry Allen, was raised in Iowa, played at Northern Iowa, and was the head coach at Northern Iowa during the 1990s. He was an assistant at Iowa State in the early 2000s. Not sure if this has anything to do with this, but I also don't think it is totally random. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a lot of family and friends there. From his Missouri State bio:

A 1979 physical education graduate of UNI, Allen immediately joined Stan Sheriff's staff after his playing career ended. He took the role of graduate assistant coach in the fall of 1979 and then moved to a full-time position the next year and stayed on the staff when Sheriff handed the reins to Darrell Mudra in 1983.

Allen was a standout prep quarterback at West High School in Iowa City and started three seasons as UNI's top QB.

In his head coaching career, he has mentored 23 AP All-America players and 214 all-conference selections.

Allen's father, Robert, played football and was an NCAA champion swimmer at Iowa. He also served as an assistant football coach and head swim coach for the Hawkeyes for 16 years.

He and his wife, Lynn, have three children; Angie, Chase and Alex.

Do people here really need this spelled out for them?

Things are looking up for Asiasi and Eubanks. Harbaugh just saw the kid play basketball and probably came away thinking he wasn't the athlete he thought/wanted.

Anyone who has followed recruiting for some time knows Harbs told the kid they were going in a different direction. No one picks Iowa St over Nebraska and Michigan for the hell of it.

He said Harbaugh wanted to know what Nebraska told him about how they use the tight end and down played Nebraska's use. Nebraska used it to release a video coutnering Harbaugh alleded statements and highlighting their use of the tight end.  In light of recent news it sounds like sour grapes.

Matt Campbell did try to get his TE's involved somewhat at Toledo. It was MACTION, so there's only so much you can do, but he played a more physical brand of ball than Dino Babers, for instance.

It does seem though that Michigan has been stringing Allen along for a while - probably holding out for a better prospect.  Maybe Allen just wants to commit and has read the hand-writing on the wall.  I just hope Michigan gets either Asiasi or Eubanks.  Otherwise, we may be left standing when the music stops.

Why is Allen announcing Friday instead of on NSD?  If I were him, and my choice were between Michigan (if Asiasi and Eubanks don't come) or Iowa State, I'd wait to see if there's room at Michigan 100 times out of 100.  Even if there's just a small chance we'd let him sign, I don't see why a TE would pass up the chance to attend a great school and play in the most TE-friendly offense in college football.  It's not like Iowa State isn't going to have room for him; he'd be their second-highest-rated recruit.

Harbaugh does it again.  Secures Asiasi, while pushing Allen away from Nebraska, telling him they wouldn't use him correctly, only to push him to a different conference.
