Would you be in favor of hiring a rival coach for Head Coach?
Pretty straightforward question (and pretty hypothetical because this doesn't seem like a legit question to have to answer this time around).
If a rival coach of the caliber of a Kelly, Dantonio, Meyer or one of their capable coordinators (like a Naduzzi) showed interest, would you be in favor of this for the HEAD COACHING job at Michigan?
Also, does anyone know of some examples of this happening before? Recent example would be USC hiring Sarkisian from Washington, although not the same level as aformentioned rivals.
Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with it - even Tressel or someone - as long as we win. If we didn't win, the world may end. Our (arguably) beloved GMatt has had stops at both UM and ND, and was embraced again by the UM community a few years ago, as a DC though, obviously.
Thoughts?
EDIT: In case anyone was confused about which position I am referring to, it would be our J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach.

Depends who it is

Dantonio is way too odious - could you root for that guy? Narduzzi would make me squirm a little but if he was winning, I'd probably be ok. Urban Meyer, nope. And Tressel, no way. Too morally icky. Willing to cheat and lie while writing books about success and God. No thanks.

Yes.
Yes, I would.

Yes! Except tressel

Hell yes to Tressel. I would do a backflip if we hired him.

apparently the OP has no perspective on the subject....apparently doesnt know that Bo came from OSU, that MSUs glory years came from Michigans staff (Clarence Munn)....

Like every other Michigan fan, I absolutely hated Tressel when he has at OSU. However, if he could come in here and build the program into a consistent winner, I would accept him in a heartbeat.
Like many others on this board, I just want a winner who runs a relatively clean program. (ie. no embarrassing scandals)

but the way the last hire was made I can't imagine them getting anything right until they get out of their own way, and that's hard for them to do.

I'd understand the Tressel love if it was 6 or 7 years ago. But the game has changed quite a bit and there's zero proof Tressel-ball would work well enough in this day and age Add that to the fact that he knowingly lied to the NCAA and that's just a non-starter to me. If Michigan needs to look past shady dealings and cheating, then we should at least pick someone who has been actively coaching Championship-vying and winning teams from the past couple of years.

I'll take a coach from anywhere but staee and osu.

I agree!

Bo coached under Woody Hayes. If Michigan had such a narrow minded view we would have missed out on a Legend.

I would hire Boris Yeltsin at this point

Jimmy T would be awesome. I have been thinking about him since the 2nd half of the ND game. outstanding hire. home run. big ten champion ship game in year 1 (a loss though) and final four/playoff year 2.

I'm kind of surprised by this thread and the responses. Most people on here have been vocal about getting a "Michigan Man". My opinion is that in this day and age there is very little school allegiance when it comes to coaching. Coaches move all the time to what makes sense for them. It's the fans that are more attached to it. Nothing wrong with either one. All that maters is if the job gets done well and in the spirit the universities values and traditions.

But a simple - FUCK NO - for an answer.
If word got out, & then they turned us down. We would look like fools.

Who gives a fuck? Let's try to get someone to win. Let's have some balls a dump the we have to look a certain way attitude.

Kelly is a good coach, but a complete jerk. Dantonio/Narduzzi are both overrated as hell. Meyer is a slimeball.
No thanks.

If you can't bet them.. Hire them. Simple Cardinal Rule. Drop the Michigan arrogance. Besides, that's why we are speaking about this in the first place.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. (And repeat another 995 times.)

It's funny to me how the narrative has changed from coaches that win football games, to we now need to have Mother Theresa!
Bo was as tough as they come.
It's football for God's sake. We are not running a monastery!

Dantonio gets an offer from a big name school and accepts making 2015 his last year with Sparty. Tressel is then hired by State...

With all due respect to the Michigan faithful, Jim Tressel will.probably never coach again. He truly loved Ohio State and considered it his dream job. But make no mistake, he got "The Rivalry" as well or better than anyone. He always held Michigan in high regard. Thus, his weekly "Michigan Practices" thru out the season. To say he's too old or the game has passed him by is making a serious mistake. He use to frustrate the hell out of me as a fan with his conservative game plans. But after watching him for awhile you realized his genius. He was playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers. He would spoon feed his team thru out the year with more and more liberties offensively and defensively. The whole idea was to have the team evolve thru the course of the year until we would reach November. It was then that he would open up the game plan against Michigan and in their bowl game. Want proof, look at his results...he won...and won consistently.
And if you don't think he took the fall for the university...that he didn't notify Gene Smith you're mistaken. That is where he lied...Gene knew...everyone knew he was made aware of what happened. By falling on the sword he actually prevented them from getting charged with "lack of institutional control." Eventually after our illustrious AD is gone...it will come out.
And if you want to question what kind of man he was...I'd suggest you talk to any number of former players. They loved and respected him like no other.
