Word is that Kevin Conry is Michigan's next lacrosse coach
Collegecrosse.com is reporting that Michigan is about to hire Maryland Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator Kevin Conry as the head Lacrosse Coach. (Ed Lee of the Baltimore Sun is claiming that his sources say no offer has been made yet, but we know Michigan tends to get things nailed down before the formal offer is made.)
If this holds up, its a great hire. Conry is highly regarded as the architect that took Maryland to 4 straight Final Fours before breaking through and winning it all this year. (Maryland's offense has been great for years.) Michigan clearly needed a defensive minded coach. It would not surprise me to see Conry retain current Offensive Coordinator Conor Ford. They were class/teammates at Hopkins, both graduating in 2004 (NCAA runner-ups their junior year - Hopkins would break through in 2005.)
Really surprised Michigan didn't hire a sitting head coach.
Me too. I figured Michigan would want a proven head coach. But I like the hire. There aren't many really good defensively minded head coaches who are looking for new situations right now. For instance, the word is they spoke to Shawn Nadelen at Towson, and that he was happy where he is.
LOL.
You should be a fiction author because this never ever happened. If it did it should be easy for you to prove, but it didn't so you won't.
Here's all my posts over the last month just to show what a lying sack of shit you are.
Where you at UNC? You going to apologize for slandering me? You even going to show up to explain your lies? Of course not. This has been fun.
A couple of these posts reference Maizen having one million points--but it looks like he's deep in the negative. Did he get dinged in the last day?
I'm guessing LSA forgot a 'negative' sign when he adjusted Maizen's point total the first time, and since he probably doesn't spend his time looking at users points all day because he, you know, has a life and stuff, maybe he just now noticed and fixed it?
Had to login just to upvote an oldtimer.
I think that Izzo is a member of Mgoblog and he is using Maizen as a username. And he is trying to get Beilein fired. I could be wrong......
No I don't ever wonder why nor do I care. Shoot me in the head the day I worry about what an anonymous screen name thinks of a point I'm trying to make in the comment section of a blog. I'm going to say what I think and if that rubs people the wrong way so be it. I don't have the time or the energy to get caught up in the politics of this shit anymore.
"No I don't ever wonder why nor do I care. Shoot me in the head the day I worry about what an anonymous screen name thinks of a point I'm trying to make in the comment section of a blog."
Says the guy replying to a comment that he doesn't care about. Whatever, troll...
I laughed because he said the Michigan lacrosse job wasn't attractive when I've spent the last month reading from people who cover the sport the exact opposite, hence the tweets I provided below. It's funny how whenever I say anything remotely negative about John Beilein people get their panties in a wad but this guy has been shitting all over the Michigan lacrosse job for a month and here you are to defend his honor. The irony.
Well, I guess it's okay, then, that you act like an ass, because you are totally immune to introspection. And you sound proud of it!
Says the guy who said two hours ago "I'm planning to keep him on 'auto-neg' for a good long time. I figure it will take quite awhile before I burn thru 60,000+ negvotes."
Shut up and go away.
And I see the f still stands for f*ckboy. Yaaay for you, internet tough guy!
Says the guy who is triggered in the comments section of a sports blog. You are so #madonline right now and I'm loving every minute of it.
Someone recently learned a new word and is super excited to show everyone how often they can use it!
Agree. I am just glad that the "want" didn't result in an older retread. (e.g. Starsia)
Good for Manuel. Conry is ready to be a head coach - Maryland was his second Asst. Head coaching job where he transformed a defense.
Seems like a reasonable perspective. We can say "we're Michigan" all we want, but Michigan is a new kid on the lacrosse block and hasn't done anything notable since the program started. Just rolling out the block M doesn't make it an attractive niche sport job.
Michigan isn't a power in lacrosse yet and isn't a top-5 job just because of the name, any more than Ohio State is a top job in hockey just because of their name.
Top 5 job in D1 w/ state-of-the-art facilities coming next year. Michigan can make a big splash. https://t.co/yzk9Zrjh6j

@russthompson19 Salary, location, academics, school brand, AND the best facilities in D1 as of next year.

@russthompson19 The top job IMO is UVA. Michigan compares on every level. The UM brand is strong. Sleeping behemoth in Ann Arbor. Just watch.

1. Combination of the academics, admission standards, college town, big time college football makes it ideal for recruiting

3. Coaches know there is already more talent there than the on field success indicates. It's not starting from scratch.

@ND_Atl @TerenceFoy @paulcarcaterra @UMichLacrosse They've been reflecting for 2 years as they waited for the job to open up
— Lacrosse Film Room (@LaxFilmRoom) May 3, 2017
@paulcarcaterra @ND_Atl @UMichLacrosse Because there’s never been a job with as high a ceiling competition-wise with as undefined a candidate pool.
— Terry Foy (@TerenceFoy) May 3, 2017
@ND_Atl @paulcarcaterra @UMichLacrosse I don’t understand. Michigan’s performance doesn't validate/invalidate the sport & the program's validity doesn’t impact the job’s stature
— Terry Foy (@TerenceFoy) May 3, 2017
@ND_Atl @paulcarcaterra @UMichLacrosse My comments are more reflective of the aggregate reaction to the position from other college coaches.
— Terry Foy (@TerenceFoy) May 3, 2017
@CoachCottle @paulcarcaterra @UMichLacrosse That makes my point. Next time Duke opens, there are 5 quality candidates the conversation immediately moves to. Not so at UM, which = big

This is Michigan fergodsakes!
I actually compiled the tweets to show that Michigan was an attractive job, not to say anything about the hire. If you took two seconds to look at the poster I was responding to you would have seen that. But of course leave it to you to go looking for a fight when there isn't one to be made. Posters like you are really the worst thing about these boards IMO.
And one more thing, I completely agree with your commentary on bullying. You should take your own advice because the way I (a Michigan alum) am treated on here by you (a North Carolina student nonetheless) and others is appalling.
