Women's World Cup at 7:00 ET
The top two squads, USA - Germany, go at it in semi-finals. Hope Solo has to be her stellar self for the USA to win this match. Germany's keeper is no slouch but reminds me of Frau Blucher.

Germany will score at least one. If we can hold them to that one, we're at least going to extra time IMO and who knows from there. But if they score more than one, we're probably fucked. What's gotten us by in the first few matches isn't going to get us by Germany. They're smart, can play a couple different styles and they will make us pay for giving away possession too easily.
Is this match going to actually be starting right at 7PM? Just trying to plan my schedule for the rest of the evening.
throws out the first pitch in Detroit in a minute or two!
Germany-US, Japan-England.
If the US and England lose they'll meet in the third place game on July 4th.
One forward (Morgan)? Jill Ellis HOT TAKES being written as we speak.
It's a 4-3-3 (at least according to the pregame):
Solo
Krieger, Johnston, Sauerbrunn, Klingenberg
Holiday, Lloyd, Brian
Heath, Morgan, Rapinoe
Good move in that Ellis recognized need for a dedicated d mid. Bad in that she's breaking out a new formation in a semi. This does, at least, seem to get players into the spaces where they're most comfortable
Yeah, were not going to longball Germany. We will need some build ups from the back.

Very easy to like.

It's interesting how she went to Sweden and regained her passion for soccer.
DId Fox straight up just steal everything about WC coverage from ESPN? Same set, laid back with couches and stuff. A different analyst from every country ala Ballack, Ruud Gullit, etc. Where's Ian Darke?
No. It's not like they dragged in Lalas from 1994 to pontificate on every innane topic that pops into his head.
Oh, wait . . . .

LOL
Dang! Nice try!
Damn. I thought we had one there.
Can't keep missing on chances like that.
Argh! Great move by Pinoe, but weak shot.
So who would you start?
OK. But IMO she hasn't finished well in big games, at least for the national team.
I don't see the US scoring on anything other than a set piece or counter. We're not going to get much build up because Germany is just forcing it back to our defense and they're just hoofing it.
Wow. What a save. But Morgan has to bury that.
Fuck me. That's three chances we've blown.

She still isn't sharp.
That had to take something out of them.
Yeah, this whole WC was always going to be this way for us unless we played Canada. If we don't win the whole thing, we should be fairly embarrassed because it is practically on US soil with how well our fans travel as it is plus the proximity.
Good game so far - both teams look energetic and technically sound
Sick ball by Sauerbrunn there. Our defense is just so smart and effective (even when attacking like just then).
Klingenberg needs to drive that cross, not float it.
Ouch!
