Wise Words From Bo

Submitted by Bluenin on December 9th, 2018 at 10:08 AM

“When your team is winning, be ready to be tough, because winning can make you soft. On the other hand, when you team is losing, stick by them. Keep believing.”

So things could be worse, Harbaugh was our homerun hire, can’t keep blowing up the program and start over every 3 to 4 years.  Yeah we haven’t beaten OSU, but 3 ten win seasons out of 4 is pretty damn good considering where we’ve been the past 10+ seasons.

Four years ago -

“Harbaugh is bringing with him an old school offense that relies heavily on the run and FB and TE usage.”

MGo Board: “COOL!  We love you, Jim!”

Today -

Harbaugh uses an old school offense that relies heavily on the run and FB and TE usage.

MGoBoard: “IT’S YOUR FAULT THAT MY LIFE SUCKS AND I HAVE A PATHETIC BABY DICK! WAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!”

Get over Bo. He was the most overrated coach of the 20th century with no National Championships. Michigan needs to get their own identity and not from someone who hasn't coached in nearly 30 years.

Bo was great. National Championships then we’re mythical and an election not based on competition on the field.

Winning with integrity is of utmost importance. Winning without it is meaningless. This program will always be based upon that principle.

Nobody is suggesting we run Bo’s schemes, but the way he ran his program will always be the basis.

You should apologize for what you wrote.

His O was much better at Stanford.

In fact - there was way more creativity from the offenses of the Army Navy game yesterday, than we used against Osu.

Plain and simple - when we are in a critical game, too often we don’t have a difference maker to change the game. In the MSU game that guy was DPJ, in the OSU game there was no one. Same as the ND game, no one stepped up to make the one big play to change the game. We need difference makers to take the step forward.

You're wrong. We DO have difference makers, the coaches just don't put them into position to make plays.

It's not a "guys aren't stepping up", or "we need better players". It's "coaches need to do a better job getting the guys we already have involved".

Bullshit. Nico & Dpj were clutch in the Osu game. We should have kept targeting them - instead of the butter fingers tight end.

There are lots of coaches that could win 10 games and annually lose to Ohio State and miss out on meaningful post-seasons at Michigan.

Hopefully 2019 is the year we get over the hump. Losing to Ryan Day at home...yikes.

JH is the right man for this job. We no longer lose to teams we should beat.

You can look at our schedule and circle 6 or 7 wins and they happen.

The Sparty Party is over. We are 2-2 and should be 3-1 but for the fluke punt block in 2015.

Historically we are 2 out of 3 against them and we are back to that. Whether Dantonio is

there or not. We are 3-1 against Penn State. We are 2-1 against Wisconsin. We still own

Northwestern even though are a better team than they've been in 20 years. The only

problem is OSU. We got shafted in 2016 but we are 0-4 under JH. LLoyd Carr was

1-6 against Tressel and he is in the Hall of Fame. Urban Meyer lost 5 BTN games in 7 years and only

1 at home. There is no way Ryan Day can come close to that. We will be on even ground going

forward. Bo was 11-9-1 against OSU and we will be at that level starting next year.

These posts always worry me. I have iinsider information so I know that Warde reads MGoBlog every morning with his coffee to decide whether JH stays or goes.

Count me squarely in the camp between - “We cant beat OSU fire Harbaugh” and “Everything is fine, nothing to see here”

We are the silent majority.

We are not going to find a better coach who understands this university or its football program any better or who is going to bring better talent to our school in terms of players and coaches.

Now, if you want to talk about change, let’s start by getting all the money players and their families are paid up front and out in the open.  Make it legal to level the recruiting field, and start shooting the Michigan money cannon.

In Jim's second season we were 5 points, over 3 games, away from being undefeated...... I'm pretty sure he did his job, it was a few players who didn't do theirs.

In the ND game, two completed passes were the difference in the game, on both plays our defender was in position and failed to knock down the pass..... it wasn't coaching, it was execusion.

The osu game this year, yeah that one is on the coaches, but lets not act like our coaching has been so bad that we should be considering changes, that is insanity.

Three 10 wins seasons in 4 years, considering the state of the program he took over isn't bad, isn't bad at all.

Bo was right.

And for those who have lofty NC expectations who discredit him, he is why we have those expectations in the first place.  Without Bo, we would be just another football program instead of who we are, a program people look at as being one of the powers in college football, even when we don’t perform up to those expectations. Without Bo’s successes, we are Minnesota right now.

I was at Michigan when Harbaugh was at Michigan.  I love his backstory and the fact that he left the NFL to come back to his alma mater to resurrect the program.  He is the essence of a Michigan Man.

But at the end of the day, he has to be able to beat Ohio State.

He's Harbaugh, so he'll get a much longer grace period than anybody else would get, but that grace period has to end with victories over Ohio State.

There is no "Harbaugh Exclusion" that says decent seasons without victories over Ohio State is the new standard, just because you are Jim Harbaugh.

Where he is right now is not getting it done.  It can't be the new standard.

I'm patient.  I'm willing to wait.  I'm not calling for him to be fired.  It's way too soon for that kind of talk.

But he does have to get there.  At the end of the day, I'd rather have a coach that does not know Yost from Ufer but can beat Ohio State, than a "Michigan Man" that can't.

M-Dog

Because that's our only choice?  (BTW, if he was beating Ohio State he would still be here.)

But it's irrelevant.  Right now Harbaugh is our choice.  As he should be.

Nobody in their right mind is saying get rid of Harbaugh right now.  He needs a chance to fully implement his program with his players.  And we should err on the side of more time, not less.

But yes, there will come a time when he needs to beat Oho State.  Period.

When is that?  Is that next year?  IMO, no.  But lets get serious, if we're approaching double digit years and he still can't beat Ohio State, he won't be here.

We watched Army - Navy yesterday.  An Army coach has to beat Navy.  A Navy coach has to beat Army.  Nobody is surprised by that statement.  It's part of the very DNA of those programs.

A Michigan coach has to beat Ohio State, for the same reason.

Dont even try to equate RRod with Bo.

When Bo's assistants told him that they had better facilities at Miami he responded by saying that Yost and Crisler hung their coats on these nails.

People can appreciate Michigan's history but have 0 connection.

RROD was an unmitigated disaster from his first press conference.

Bo was an outsider.  No ties to UM yet he revitalized the program after 2 decades of insiders who couldnt hack it.

Bump was an all american athlete at UM and the quintessential "Michigan Man"

I think Harbaugh more resembles Bump than Bo at this point.  But you are right about the records...

I’ll root for the Maize n Blue no matter who the coach is. Been doing it for 50 years. Naysayers make me sick. In Jim I Trust. Nick Saban could come to AA tomorrow and I would take Jim every time. We will not do better than Jim Harbaugh at Michigan. Period!

Alumnus93

Yeah... And an even more relevant Bo quote..I'm paraphrasing here.

."when someone says how great you're playing, punch them in the mouth".

He would say flattery make you soft... And the spotlight is so bright here...and all the people saying how great they are, and they become weak.

Bluelake

We've made progress under Harbaugh.

This season was not a waste. It has shown us that we can beat good teams but not elite teams.

We need to continue to recruit at a higher level, add more speed and turn the offense over to a coordinator. Pounding the ball works for 99% of the time against big ten teams but that shit doesn't work against the Bama/ ohio st or Clemson.

It's time to take the next step. Beat ohio st and get into the playoffs.

Michigan had a 10-2 season.  Yes we lost to OSU in the same sort of unexpected way that OSU lost to Purdue, and we don’t have the same recruits or recruiting tactics as the top 4-5 schools, but quit all the sulking. We just had our best year in the last10-12 years.  ...and next year we will be better.    ...and OSU will be worse.

Just couldn’t agree more with OP & of course Bo. I’ve been a M fan since the mid 70’s and I’ve seen lots of ups and downs. It’s the way it is. It’s Big 10 & M football. We were in a big down turn for a while but I think it was because we “wandered” a bit in finding the right fit as far as coaching goes. Yet, now I think we are on the right track. While I think Harbaugh needs to “tweek” things a little bit, I think he’s the guy. A true M guy for sure. Go Blue! Always!
