Wings Vs Pens: Game 2 Thoughts

Submitted by MichiganStudent on
Big win last night for the boys in Red. Although I hate Michigan State, Abdelkader looked pretty good and it was nice to see him put in that insurance goal. So, Justin is okay in my book now. Now onto tonights game. I think this is the most pivotal game of the series. If the Wings win, which I think they will, then I see the series going 5 games. If the Pens win I think we will have a dog fight on our hands and could go 7 games. I want to hear all of your thoughts on tonights game. What do you guys think?

Game 1 could have gone either way, and I hope that Uncle Mike rolls all four lines a little more tonight. While it looked bleak for us heading into the series with the short layoff and injuries to Lidstrom and Erickson, it might actually benefit us to play back-to-back games with our depth. Malkin and Crosby never seem to be off the ice, and we will win if we keep winning faceoffs like we did in game one. Prediction: both teams fire the puck from all angles. Wings win 6-5 on a goal from Franzen late.

He was there for 3 years. He played in High School at Mona Shores High School in Muskegon, MI. His senior year there he played USHL. He was also Mr. Hockey. He went to state and drafted in the 2005 draft I believe. He opted out of his senior year to play for wings last year. However, he didn't play in playoffs. This made him not get his name on cup last year, but the team gave him a ring. His name is arabic too. I could say more about him but what is the point... speaking of point. I did this to get my first point. Reason of knowing so much is that I went to high school with him. He is a class act and great player. Hope he stays a wing for a long time because that is definitely a dream come true to play for your favorite team.

Yup 3 years. For some reason I meant to write "he was there actually 2 more years than that". Oh well doesn't matter really. I think we all can agree that he has come up clutch in games 1 and 2. Those were 2 huge insurance goals. He's probably my favorite Sparty as of now.

I think the Wings got lucky last night, and while you can't win championships with it, you shouldn't count on having it game in and game out. That said, I expect we see another low scoring game. Pittsburgh did a phenomenal job at blocking the Red Wings shooting lanes last night. That combined with their more aggressive forecheck that they started using in the second period gave the Wings a lot of problems. Final score aside, I thought Pittsburgh really outplayed Detroit. Defensemen were often out of position, and if it weren't for some terrific saves by Osgood on Satan and Malkin, they probably wouldn't have won. I really think the Wings need to step it up tonight.

After watching the game, I think Babcock is right that we'll really get going and control the game for a while and then just run out of gas and let the Penguins take over. There were several extremely lucky bounces and posts instead of goals for us. I think that the day off will really help us. And how great was it to see someone take it to Malkin at the end there. If we can get under his skin, he can really lose his game and thus the Penguins lose one of their biggest weapons.
