Harbaugh didn't have at least some influence on Speights decision.  Peters gets the next month of practice getting starter reps and goes into spring the clear #1.  Just as important, Dylan M. gets #2 reps and any garbage time available.  Speight being here could've thrown question marks into all those things.  I appreciate all WIlton has done for the program, but its time to move on to the future.

I will say, I don't think Michigan needs another QB transfer. what they need is an offensive line that can keep the ones they have off the injured list.

Honestly, there usually aren't any good ones available.  If you can't get into the rotation of your current P5 program, I'd rather not take a flyer unless there are some extenuating circumstances.  Michigan has players in the pipeline who should be able to block people with some consistency.  I'm not a big "FIRE THE COACHES" guy, but something needs to happen so that the 5 guys who showed clear improvement blocking for the RB transfer that awareness and ability to blocking for the QB.

if he should really be playing anymore. If I were him I'd take a long look in the mirror before deciding I wanted to keep going after all the injuries he's had. I'd hate to see him do even more damage to himself.

I used to think this blog was pretty plugged in. Then I saw the consensus was that Wilton would be pretty much unchallenged for the QB job and it was his all this year and next.

Peters should have started from day one this year. Harbaugh bungled the QB situation.

Wish Wilton all the best, but he was not the QB this blog thought he was.

You may indeed be a fan, but sir, you are one of the most arrogant out-of-touch fans i have ever read. Not many UM fans will take on Harbaugh one-on-one in coaching. Even fewer will take him on in coaching qbs. You, sir, are out-of-touch on this one, and even though you have others that think like you, believe me, you don't win just because you outnumber our HC.

Scroll through my posts and find one instance of me calling for anyone to be fired from this staff. Find one area where I have even been less than jubilant about the Harbaugh hiring.

But he's not infallible.

I don't even know what your talking about 'outnumbering the coach'. I rarely post here anymore because its simply a crappy place to talk Michigan football. If there really are people calling for Harbaugh's head even more reason to stop paying attention.

I'm so conflicted here. On one side I can't downvote the best James Bond and on the other everything you said is so wrong. This blog is by far the best "plugged in" Michigan blog. Hindsight isnt always the best way to look at this. Peters would have been crushed in the first four games with this o line. Wilton Speight was far better than anyone though when he was recruited. Enjoy the downvote sir.

like a good leader and teammate.  Have a feeling like others suggest perhaps there is another transfer coming in like Shea Patterson, or perhaps Coach Harbaugh mapped out an uncertain future for him here.  Otherwise, does not quite make sense to me that Wilt would leave.   Wish Wilt the best and will always pull for him in whatever he does in life and appreciate his time at Michigan.

Speight moment was the TD to Chesson I think against Minnesota when he was forced into relief of Rudock.

He did a lot with a limited OL in my opinion.

I wish him well and no more serious injuries!!

I get it that the kid Brandon Peters looks good but it is by no means certain that he is a lock. Speight has experience and the physical tools. He just need to continue to work over the summer. He actually has a good long ball.

I guess the lesson from that the whole Drew Henson Tom Brady time was lost. Brady stayed and competed and only got better - he didn't get all of the game time, but got used to the habit of competing and working. He talked with Greg Harden a lot and decided NOT to transfer and stuck it out.

It takes 2QBs to get through a B1G season...Gotta think Speight could have gotten some playing time, even if Peters beat him straight up for the starting spot. Most likely, Speight really wants a guaranteed starting spot so that he can have a shot at the NFL

Physical tools. A shell of himself and I hate to say it! He had to transfer a la Shane Morris! Get over yourself with that Physical Tools BS. I️ love Wilton but he will have a degree and that’s a blessing.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad thing? He won the starting job this year and would have started all year if he had not been hurt. Losing the skill players we lost was going to be tough for anyone who played QB. I looked at Speight as the probable starter next season. Losing our probable starter is not a good thing.

While I'm excited about a future with Peters and McCaffrey, I agree with you. I don't see this as a good thing. Speight won the job this year and gave us a high floor at QB. Peters and McCaffrey will have to really step up their game for me to feel like we are better than Speight. Peters showed promise, but I'm not convinced he's better than Speight. For all we know, this is Speight expressing a lack of confidence in the staff's confidence to protect him from big hits.

Saw today on Mlive Winovich not sure what he will do for '18. Some quote about being happy to be a free agent. Don't like the sound of that. I think getting Winovich and Mone back on the D line and as senior leaders is big! Any news on these two guys and anyone else worried about them leaving?

his only offer??  Wow.  He's a very talented athlete, that's hard to believe.  Thank you Mr. Speight for all you did.  Ever blood, sweat and tear dropped for the team.  Best of luck to you.

Let's just say I know a guy who plays Counter Strike, and he passed along there may be a few transfers coming, one or two of the shocking variety. But the words disenchantment with the treatment of players by the fans this year being a major contributing factor. Personally speaking, whether this is a load of shit or not. I've experienced a great deal of personal embarrassment at being associated with alot of our fan base this year. From the treatment of players, to the mudrucking of coaches, our fan base has been stuck in bitch mode for most of this season. Win or lose, we (fans included) stick together as a team. Or we fall apart as individuals. Some of you need to take a good long look in the mirror and ask yourself, have i conducted myself as a true fan of Michigan football this season? Or have you acted like a self entitled whiny bitch. Neg away bitches. Like a real Michigan Man I will take your worst with a smile on my face, and a Go Blue in my heart.

Batman, I think you are full of it. Michigan fans (and every other fanbase) become asses to players when their teams consistently lose. JT Barrett has lost like 3 games in 5 years and is a Heisman contender this season, yet was ripped by fans and the media when he lost to Oklahoma (there was even that 5* HS recruit that said Barrett should be benched.

If Speight expects to go to any decent football school and not get criticized for losses, he's insane. As for the transfers, we know Harbaugh doesn't love Peters and all we have otherwise is a RS FR.

And celebrating their injury. Which I saw alot of here and else where. People were happy Speight was hurt so the savior John O'Korn would finally get his chance. Til he failed then the savior Brandon Peters could get his chance. Under Rich Rod this team consistently lost. Under Jim we have consistently won. Even with 2nd and 3rd string quarterbacks we were in every game except PSU this year. Expecting the second youngest team since the year 2000 to win the B1G and make playoffs is the definition of unrealistic expectations. Going 8-4 with a crap o line and 2nd and 3rd string QBs is over achieving. Especially when the expectation with a healthy team was 8-4 9-3. You can excuse your shitty attitude and behavior by saying all fan bases do it. Or like a true Michigan Man you can strive to be better than the rest.

I wish Michigan fans behaved better than fans from other schools - but they don't.

... but if players think they'll escape this by transferring, they're quickly going to find out that while Michigan fans aren't better than other schools fane - they also aren't worse. They'll be in for the same thing, wherever they go.
