This will cheer you up after striking out tonight (Charles Woodson Icon Episode)

Submitted by denardogasm on

Just came upon this after watching a heisman highlight real of Woodson's while I was supposed to be studying and had to bring it out of the archives for everyone.  I'm sure a lot of people have seen it before but I never had, and I don't think anyone will object to reliving the glory days of this monster of a football player.  Some great stories in here, and watching his highlights makes my jaw drop every time.  So for all you folks who struck out tonight, or who are stuck studying on a Friday night like me, or who just yacked while posting in the drinking thread, here is our finest son with some classic Keith Jackson commentary to cheer you up and help you have sweet dreams tonight.

Good speed, hips on a swivel, and strong in run support.  Magnus disapproves of his showboating, though.

TTB rating: 84

Wait, what are we talking about again?

How did you know I struck out tonight? You must be a psychic. Regardless, I can assure you she would've come home with me if her stupid friend wasn't such a cockblock.

That was a great video - thanks for sharing!

Woodson really was great on both sides of the ball, and truly a rare talent - there are so few players that could effectively play catch with both QBs all game. I am glad I had the chance to see this in person on a few occasions.

That INT at East Lansing - you know the one - was one of the best defensive plays I have ever seen. I think it trumps the OSU punt return for TD as the most defining play in his collegiate career.

About 10 years back, the M-Den just outside the stadium had a giant framed picture of the interception looking directly from behind Woodson with the MSU band in the background looking on in disbelief.  I loved it.  But it cost $300.

Also in the corner of the store, there was a giant framed photo of the end zone just as Remy Hamilton is kicking the game winning field goal to beat Notre Dame in 94.

The next home game I went to, both pictures were gone.  And I was sad.

but the one in the rose bowl that saved us going down two scores was more important to the NC.  the one v MSU wasn't the difference in the game, the one in the rose bowl was not as spectacular but wat more imortant and therefore i would argue defining.

Yeah, I see your point. I agree that the INT in the title game, and the punt return for a TD vs Ohio State that year, are both bigger plays in the grand scheme of things.

But in terms of sheer ability and what he could do on the field, that one play vs MSU stands out to me.

Definitely not diminshing the other incredible plays though. He's my second favorite Michigan player of all time,  behind Dez.

Just for shits and giggles, my top 5:

1. Desmond Howard

2. Charles Woodson

3. Tyrone Wheatley

4. Braylon Edwards

5. Denard Robinson

(only in terms of what they did on the field in a Michigan uniform, and not what they did after)

Yeah the Woodson "Big Ten Icons' is a good one. I have it DVRd and have watched it at least a half dozen times.

"If you come to Michigan you are going to have to hit and you're going to have to tackle....that's all you gotta tell me." - Woodson

Does Madej say "CS Motts" near the end of the video (0:34 seconds left)? I know it's a common mistake, but for his position somewhat of a blunder if he did.

that Denard this season can replicate that feeling Woodson gave off; the one where you say in your head, "we will not lose this game because Charles won't let it happen".

I loved it when Bacon says,"That guy is on your team, and it pumps you up!" or something to that effect. I hope that is Denard this year. When/if he optimizes his decision-making process regarding when he should hit an open running lane vs letting a passing play develop, watch out. I am sure his passing will improve, but it's those unplanned huge scrambles that will make him unstoppable. In my humble opinion...

he is on the verge of making that transition you could see it last year - i hope he can stay healthy because i think this year is going to be SICK if he can stay on the field
