Why I don't mind Adam Rittenberg (Dorsey)

Submitted by rbgoblue on
He's not local, but he covers local stuff regarding Michigan. Living in Michigan, its nice to catch a breath of fresh air and hear the national perspective after being suffocated by the local media. His take on the Dorsey situation:

But is that risk large enough to push the Wolverines away when other programs wouldn't think twice about adding Dorsey to their roster? Does Michigan have to hold itself to a perceived higher standard, a standard that might not even exist in college football, much less at U-M? Some will say yes, but these folks need to open their eyes and realize this is big-time college football."

That's more than I can say about most of the instate media. Even A2.com, in their infinite wisdom, hired an MSU grad for the UM "beat." He tries to be fair, but his Sparty-ness is hard-wired in and has to come out at times, like yesterday's presser. Back to A2.com: What the bleep were they thinking?

His basic point, which I agree with, is "If Dorsey fucks it up, RR will pay the price. There's no reason to make him pay for it now."

All things considered, someone covering the entire Big Ten is simply not going to have the same depth of knowledge that the school specific bloggers do. I always think it's funny when people attack him in his mailbag for not knowing very minor things about individual players, or very small events. He provides insight into the entire big ten, and does it in a pretty fair medium. I'm very glad ESPN added this to their site in the last year. PS: Why do Penn State fans seem to hate the shit out of him?
