Why do people think so highly on Denard Robinson(at QB)?

Submitted by RRerabeginsin2009 on
Why do people think Denard Robinson will win over Tate/Threet? Denard may be a good quarterback, but hes highlighted as an ATHLETE. His arm probably isn't as good as Tates. Denard may be a GREAT runner with an OK arm. Tate is a GOOD passer and a GOOD runner. Denard is an athletic quarterback. Tates a quarterback who happens to be athletic, theres a difference. From what I believe, because not everyone stays in the position they are recruited at (Justin Feagin). I believe Denard Robinson will be that offensive player who plays all over. He will play QB, HB, Slot, etc. He'll be our Percy Harvin. I'm not COMPARING him to Percy Harvin, but he'll probably end up in that same kind of role.

I agree with you on the pass first QB but the reason I think everybody is so high on Tate and Denard is because of what we had to put up with last year and everybody wants Tate or Denard to be that "special" kid we're missing at the QB position. But I think some people need to relax some.

Who says Denard is not a good passer? He's recruited as an athlete because (a) his athletic ability is what stands out most for him as a football player (his speed is so dominant, it's hard not to overlook his passing ability/decision making), and (b) he's short (yes, he's listed at 6'0", but typically, a recruit listed at that height is more likely 5'10" or maybe 5'11). The videos I've seen seem to suggest he's actually not a bad passer. But his athleticism is more impressive, obviously.

Why fuss over what moron posters like us care or think? RR and staff saw something in Denard and recruited the kid from the START as a QB. They will assess his ability and let him compete as they have told him. It's now up to Denard to show the coaches his ability at the QB position. Our posturing on here about who will and will not start is all academic and meaningless.

Hmm we tried out a fast dood last year that didn't work out so this guy must be the same way! No. Have you watched his film? If not, go to youtube. Come back and tell me what you see. An awesome scrambler that has good arm strength. He keeps his eyes downfield. From what we know about him there is no reason to call him Feagin. Give the guy a chance you douche. And he is listed as an athlete because thats what he is. He could play any skill position on the field. We would take 10 Denard Robinsons per class if we could. If he fails at QB then he's a DB. Or a slot guy. Or a tailback. Or a WR. So yeah, thats why we think highly of him.

ESPN actually listed Terrelle Pryor at ATH for most of the year last year, even though everyone knew he would be a QB. The ATH denotation doesn't mean he's a poor QB, just that he's a sick athlete.

First, I think very few people are saying Robinson will beat Forcier next year for the QB job. BUT, we have a coach whose single greatest success came with a mediocre passing/sick scrambling QB - who Robinson is nearly a clone of. There is a line of reasoning that RR could be attracted to what he knows, and has succeeded with. Also, looking at footage, I'd venture that Robinson has a stronger arm than Forcier. He's not as refined, and not nearly as accurate, but his arm is big.

I am going to guess not quite as accurate as Tate and i'll take accuracy over arm strength ANY day. BTw, the one thing that RR harped on yesterday was HOW ACCURATE TATE was in high school.

Tate was close to 80% in HS. I think we can assume he won't be near that at Michigan. I don't think anyone is arguing that Robinson, today, is a better passer than Forcier. What we're saying is that in this offense, being a better passer is about 50% of the battle.

Well, let's not exaggerate here -- Tate was close to 80% for one year in high school. He threw 72% or so his sophomore year, 77% his junior year, and around 68-69% his senior year. But yeah, either way, obviously still very good.

I'm not sure if I'd agree that Robinson's arm strength is on par with Forcier. One of the coaches (I forget which) has said Forcier's arm compares favorably with Chad Henne's at the same stage.

another reporter involved. Since I heard it from TomVH who must have read it from the reporter who heard it from JJ who was relaying what Fred Jackson told him, it's hearsay to the fourth power to me. I'm not sure there are enough hearsay exceptions in the Federal Rules of Evidence to get this statement in. Anyone want to take a crack at it?

Now I don't doubt that Denard could have great arm strength, but are people watching the same highlight film as me? Maybe I have bad eyes, but the film is blurry. You can barely see the ball sometimes. I don't know how people are judging ball speed on that tape. Even feagin threw some bombs on his highlight reel.

might I just say that the Gators wanted this player and we are darn lucky to have gotten him. I watched his film and saw a player with a great arm and elusive moves. In my opinion, Denard could eventually be the starting QB. If this player proves himself, it will most certainly allow Michigan to redshirt next years recruited QB, not to mention take the pressure off Michigan to sign a spoiled puke (player) like ND did when they signed pickle boy.

I'm not doubtin Denard or anything but I just don't see him as an everydown QB. Which is why he'll be more of the option qb and direct snap, where Tate will be the Passing qb with reads, etc. Pat White and WVU prob wouldn't of lasted in big ten. You cant run your qb that much. Tate will throw more. Being succesful in big ten you gotta have pass first qb. Terrelle Pryor is good example as an ATH. Hes not a good QB. Hes a running qb which is why hes not too succesful. His fellow recievers and beanie wells helped him A LOT. If he wud of came to michigan he'd slowly turn into a passing QB. At OSU there expecting him to be a passing qb from day 1. It could lose a lot of confidence in a kid. Bc he can't throw.
