White Hats=All White Jersey's?

Submitted by bcsblue on
OK so I know the all white jersey thing has become obsessive around here, but.... Watch the Friday Football walkthrough video. Notice all the players have solid white ski caps. This could be coincidence. But I cant ever remember giving out anything white for sideline wear. I know these things change every year. But look at player ski caps of the past. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2118/2036711995_ce732116d6_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3066/2906586233_969d0a14ae.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3069/2807762075_33b1759f37_o.jpg Could be nothing. But more and more I really think they will come out in all white. Go blue!

Ehh...they've given out reversible blue/white hats before. The biggest difference that you need to remember is that it's adidas now. A whole new ballgame compared to Nike. However, your statement does nothing to dispell the all white rumors.

I know that it's an effort to counter the Black Out, but I'm just not a fan. I hate watching footage of away games in the 1970's where we wore all white. I guess this would be an instance where I'm resistant to all kinds of tampering with tradition. I'm usually not, but I'm holding firm on this one.

This just in! Word is that Rich Rod is going to try to counter the black-out by simply kicking the shit out of the Hawkeyes and winning the game. Brilliant! Simply acknowledging their stupid blackout by changing uniforms seems beneath Michigan somehow.

I don't think they are doing this just to counter the blackout. This rumor has been around since preseason. I doubt they knew that Iowa would for sure have a blackout. I just think the players really want to mix it up. I knew a few people on the team last year. They were all over coach to switch it up. They all wanted to come out in all blue at home. Of course that would be terrible. So I think its a way to get the guys pumped up and throw them a bone. Why not, Its a night game. I think it would be cool.

I'm willing to give it a shot. At first I was actually a maize jersey supporter, then started leaning back to tradition the more I thought about it. I just hope that all-white unis isn't what our guys need to be fired up. I remember how in high school we would get so wrapped up in how sweet our uniforms looked that we worried more about our damn multi-colored spat jobs and wirstbands than actual game prep or focus.

I was trying to see in the pink lockeroom segment but it looked like the jerseys are all bagged up in the lockers....

I think a blackout is possibly the least impressive of all the _outs. Especially for a night game. I remember watching a South Carolina game where they did the blackout. It was a night game. The aerial shots showed that the stadium looked the same inside and out. So, Iowa, go ahead and do your blackout. It is a night game. We won't see you and will pretend you aren't even there. Can we play this game in the middle of the forest and have a fatigue-out instead?

to just be stupid. If Michigan loses wearing white pants, it will be a full week of the bandwagon jumpers bitching up a storm about RR and breaking tradition yada yada yada bullcrap. They are pants, thats it....its not like we're going all Oregon on people. If they play good football I don't care what they wear.

Honestly, I could see some people not even noticing. Ask a casual fan on Monday if he noticed the different pants, and I'll bet he says no. The yellow pants at night can kind of mix in with the white a little. I keep getting more and more excited for this though, I think I'll actually be a little disappointed if it doesn't happen now.

I would completely agree with this if it weren't for one thing. If we wear white pants, it will assuredly be mentioned 20 times by Brent Musberger. Otherwise, I would agree that casual fans may not even notice.

when the M hockey team came out in yellow jerseys........they freaked when a few people painted the football wings on their hockey helmets. Its how traditions start. I kind of hope it catches on, just so OSU has to bag their stupid golden pants medalions.

I'm swayed for white on white. Throw the long blue socks in there and it should look pretty sweet. Considering maize pants is not really a tradition (look at Bo's teams early 70s), I don't think its something we should get bent out of shape about. It's nice changing it up a bit, so long as they don't do it at home.

yeah, I point to Georgia's all black Uni's against Alabama the other year (i think... i'm going off memory). they got blown out at home in the first half. i think it was 35-0? pretty funny. but yeah, who cares about the uni's - just focus on execution. that said, I think if they all came out with the high blue socks with all white - that really could look pretty cool. but, whatever. Go Blue, this would be a bigtime win.

Something I think alot of people aren't taking into consideration is that it is the players who are probably the ones who want to change it up a bit. As 18-19-20 year old kids, they are probably throwing alot of things out there to the coaches and football staff of things to do different. It's the coaches/staff job to just make sure some of the things that they do change up aren't too drastic and not to mess with tradition per se. I just hope that if/when they wear white road pants, and if things don't go well, then the masses don't jump on RR yet again for doing something "non Michigan" or "messing with tradition". But unfortunately I think that it could be just another nail that the non RR crowd will try to put in the proverbial coffin. I hate that crowd. Go Blue! In Rod We Trust!

Let me preface this by saying I'm a uniform nerd. I'm pretty interested to see what they're wearing tonight. One thing I've been wondering about is whether they'll wear the same away jersey if they go to white pants. The white pants from the 70s had stripes down the side. That wouldnt match up with our current away jerseys at all. If they're plain white pants similar to our Maize pants, I don't think it will be a good look. I think if you paired up jerseys similar to the '97 away jerseys with white pants like the ones Michigan wore in the seventies, it would be a good look. They could wear white pants with funky stripes, etc. to match our current away jerseys, but I think a lot of people would be unhappy with that. Sorry, I realize nobody probably cares about anything in this post.

It would be possible to design white pants for Michigan's road uniforms, but just plain white doesn't really cut it. I do think that the road jerseys we currently have, and which we wore to E. Lansing, are locked in by contract and licensing agreement. So you have to work with those. And if you do, just plain white wouldn't look okay. Forget about pants, just go out and knock somebody down wearing the opposing coolor jersey on the football field.
