Where is Herm?

Submitted by Canadian on
I just came to the realization I haven't seen a post from the "old" man in a while. Did he get banned and I missed it? Or has he been in hibernation?

"Herm" had some good thoughts. But any time you repeatedly cross the line, you can expect either Bolivia or banning.

I don't know definitively (and don't need to know, and don't care to know,) but I believe that the mods or proprieters will allow some amount of rudeness, especially if you yourself have been attacked and insulted beyond what is acceptable. The thing is, when a user repeatedly crosses the line, and starts to live there, it becomes more problematic. In the meta post on this topic, Brian mentioned the sense some users have of entitlement. I think this sense of entitlement comes from various places:

  1. Cluelessness.
  2. Longevity on the board.
  3. Solid contributions to the board.
  4. Having gotten away with rudeness before.
  5. Being warned by mods, and nothing happening.

The point system returning will allow for so much more board self-policing. I think without the negbang/posbang active to give and take away points, and with the overall tone of lawlessness and rudeness, some users abused the privilege of being on the board. Newbies, esp. trolls, could come on the board with no fear of retribution for what they wrote. Some users who had been around more than four years, with a ton of "points," felt they could say anything with impunity.

The one at play with Herm, I believe, is number 5. There was one time years ago when I wrote something politically incorrect. I was warned by a mod that repeated infractions would result in some kind of sanction. (It actually looked like boilerplate or something generated by an autobot.) Anyway, I have to believe that "Herm" was told to tone it down, and didn't. Because of the shtick at play, maybe the poster known as "Herm" wanted to work the system to see how much it would take to get "Herm" banned. idk. But I can't imagine trying to keep things straight when users have multiple accounts and personalities (a la RDT.)

You need legal representation my friend.   Profitgoblue will take your case and has worked wonders.  Happy clients such as FuManBlue & JimBobTressel can readily attest to his abilities and influence in getting seemingly unpardonable offenses (like yours must have been) reduced significantly or eliminated altogether.

Herm,

Remember when you left MGoBlog? Before all this, before Brian going off his shit? You were gone seven months. Seven months I waited, hoping that you wouldn't come back. Every month, I took a holiday. I went to Florence, there's this cafe, on the banks of the Arno. Every fine evening, I'd sit there and order a Fernet Branca. I had this fantasy, that I would look across the tables and I'd see you there, with a wife and maybe a couple of kids. You wouldn't say anything to me, nor me to you. But we'd both know that you'd made it, that you were happy. I never wanted you to come back to MGoBlog. I always knew there was nothing here for you, except pain and tragedy. And I wanted something more for you than that. I still do.

If we were to believe Herm was as old as he purported to be, his "couple of kids" would have likely been in their fifties.  Is was a funny schtick for awhile, but a young dude pretending to be an old man was almost as annoying as the guy who pretended to be a Kate Upton look alike.

As a personal friend of the real Herm I can state that he is alive but busy with real life. We are working on getting him back don't worry. Herm's fire was fueled by the blog getting pissed about the smallest things like signing Herm at the end of each post and posters getting their panties in a bunch over Dave Brandon posts. Long live Herm.
