You can also find him standing behind the South goal post at home games. I talk to him when I'm shooting photos. Seems like a very pleasant guy. Definitely not afraid to speak his opinion. He doesn't like the spread...

I bet if we peeled the onion just a little bit, like the rest of us, "spread" was shorthand for "losing by 20+ points against any team with a good coach" and "deploying a defense akin to a colander."

This was a good read, and Guynes' insights into his own work were particularly enjoyable, especially when you're familiar with the area he is patrolling. I had to chuckle when he said that most of the time, "people arrest themselves". Great to see that he came back here to serve the community in this capacity.

I do enjoy these articles when they appear - it's nice to see what has become of players from past teams, especially one that most people probably lost sight of after they left Michigan (I think he played with Arizone in 1997 and then went to Europe, but I could be wrong there).

Thanks for sharing this. It would be interesting to start compiling these into a "Where Are They Now?" series for the board.

We seem to have a decent number of ex-players who are now Law Enforcement Officers.

Washtenaw County Sheriff Commander Dieter Heron

LAPD Sgt John Willingham

the late Vada Murray (RIP)

All from back in the 80s.  I'm sure there are plenty more.

I was once apprehended by Allen Jefferson of the Detroit Police Department during the summer of 1996...while hanging out in a deserted park late at night drinking beers with some h.s. friends.  I still think the fact that I recognized him and started blowing smoke up his ass is the reason we got off so easy - they seemed ready to make an example of us
