What should the band play to welcome back Justin Boren?

Submitted by michelin on November 17th, 2009 at 7:17 PM

I was wondering how UM fans could welcome back Justin Boren Sat.

Maybe the marching band could play something for him...but what?

I got an idea when reading once more some old news that's always nice to hear again. It was about Detroit news sources that “all but called Boren a pussy, who bailed on Rodriguez’s demanding new training regimen, a change from whatever Jazzercise Michigan was doing before. …”

They indicated that Boren, after the first spring practice, said the first workout was “grueling” and had the OL “constantly running back to the line of scrimmage in the no-huddle offense.”

The article continued:

“The only thing missing would be a key editorial decision to place an ad for tampon coupons right next to Boren’s head. “

So, I thought, maybe the band could play some Springstein, like

"Boren to Run."

Other suggestions welcomed.

"Man In The Mirror" by MJ

I'm Gonna Make A Change,
For Once In My Life
It's Gonna Feel Real Good,
Gonna Make A Difference
Gonna Make It Right . . .

As I, Turn Up The Collar On My
Favourite Winter Coat
This Wind Is Blowin' My Mind
I See The Kids In The Street,
With Not Enough To Eat
Who Am I, To Be Blind?
Pretending Not To See
Their Needs
A Summer's Disregard,
A Broken Bottle Top
And A One Man's Soul
They Follow Each Other On
The Wind Ya' Know
'Cause They Got Nowhere
To Go
That's Why I Want You To
Know

I'm Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
I'm Asking Him To Change
His Ways
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place
Take A Look At Yourself, And
Make A Change
(Na Na Na, Na Na Na, Na Na,
Na Nah)

I've Been A Victim Of A Selfish
Kind Of Love
It's Time That I Realize
That There Are Some With No
Home, Not A Nickel To Loan
Could It Be Really Me,
Pretending That They're Not
Alone?

A Willow Deeply Scarred,
Somebody's Broken Heart
And A Washed-Out Dream
They Follow The Pattern Of
The Wind, Ya' See
Cause They Got No Place
To Be
That's Why I'm Starting With
Me

I'm Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
(Ooh!)
I'm Asking Him To Change
His Ways
(Ooh!)
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place
Take A Look At Yourself And
Then Make A Change

His favorite song, I have to presume its something by Taylor Swift. So play "Romeo and Juliet" because it describes his relationship with Tressel. It will inevitably distract him long enough for Brandon Graham to cave his face in.

The point is, if this year is any indication, the band would play a soft etude toward the northeast corner of the stadium, and then get off the field so the students can wiggle their arms awkwardly to "Lose Yourself" through the PA system.

But yes, this idea is silly. The correct song choice is The Victors. The band only plays for guys who play for Michigan.

A love song from Just-in Boren to Jimmy Tressel:

Just in time you’ve found me just in time,
Barwis told me, my time was far too slow
I was lost the losing dice were tossed
My britches’ fat legs crossed nowhere to go
Now my dear, I’m slow and my gut’s still growing
No more doubt or fear I’ve found my way
For Tress came just in time
you’ve found me just in time
And changed my homely tights that lucky day

As RR indicated, 'that's in the past'.

I think the best play is to focus on football and beat OSU. I'm 'all in' for many rounds of the 'the Victors!'

..bringing attention to the issue more could backfire...At the same time, though, the media will be skewering us anyway and a song like "we are family" could respond to the critics and fire up the team.

It also reminds me of what Bo did, when he repeated "the team, the team, the team".

postscript:
(I am a huge michigan fan guys, I've gone to every home game since 1988 with my dad, and I'm 31 years old. Nothing will ever replace the Victors, but I wanted to share this bluegrass tune with you because it was the only way I could cope with the Wisconsin loss.)

Nothing. The band should not do anything to honor Boren's presence. He wants to be acknowledged and booed. It's safe to assume his going to be booed, but the band should spend no time on that lying traitorous brat.

you could go with this. But whatever, it ought to be something most everyone knows and can sing.

If you want make fun of leaving practice to snowplow and his laziness, then Walking in a Winter Wonderland as to be the one. It would be killer to play that on 3rd and long for Justin, too instead of Eminem.

If you want to make fun of him eating like a horse, then maybe go with Cheeseburger in Paradise, or the slightly less known "I will play for Gumbo" would actually be even better. Not sure enough people would know it but the song "Eat for Two" by 10000 Maniacs would be classic, and its kind of a pussy sounding song that would be perfect for Justin.

The Almond Joy jingle would be excellent, too. You know Justin doesn't have nuts, etc.
