What is New England doing with Hoyer backing up Brady?
I guess there has to be another move but the Pats in the last 6 months have now traded Cassel, cut Gutierrez, signed Walter, cut their 2008 3rd rd pick O'connell and now cut Walter leaving just undrafted rookie Brian Hoyer? Like I said, gotta be another move but if they feel that good about Hoyer that has to say something about MSU.

And Tom Brady has to say something about UM. You're really stretching it here.

I hear a lot of people around here saying Hoyer was bad for a senior QB and the drop off to Cousins/Nichol won't be that big. But maybe Dantonio and the boys didn't know how to use him or the ends aren't very good, that was my point there.

If Hoyer was so bad, then why couldn't Cousins beat him out? There will be a drop off.

Don't worry .. every team has Vinny Testaverde on speed dial .. And Vinny is sitting in his rocking chair waiting for the phone to ring.

questioning Bill Belichick about football?

Brian Hoyer had many of his passes dropped by his receivers. He is accurate, and was at times very cool and collected. Hopefully he will make a good NFL Quarterback.

He had 9 TDs and 9 INTs. That isn't exactly the picture of accuracy.

believes Hoyer suffered from an abundance of dropped passes and is accurate. NFL.com

Yep, I've never known ESPN to write wonderful pre-draft analysis on a QB. Like Mike Teel:
"Teel has an extremely strong arm. He was plagued by some Rutgers receivers dropping passes last year and he lacks speed, but he has a cannon and is very smart. He helped turn around the Rutgers program and has a shot to develop into something."
ESPN fluffs the hell out of the pre-draft analysis so they can do a Pro and Con section for everyone. Every single one of those QBs has a good amount of praise and then a few points of detraction.

And for the record, I'm not saying this isn't smart or whatever, I'm not a NFL QB. I'm just saying, watching Hoyer, he was never really terribly impressive as a QB. Hell, I hated Stanton but I have no problem saying he was a better QB.

Cassel hadn't started a football game in 8 years before last year. I trust Belichick.
September 4th, 2009 at 9:07 PM ^
Belichick has another back-up in mind. Hoyer was an average QB at MSU. NE is screwed if Brady goes down again, but it won't be Hoyer even if he does.

IME, Hoyer looked to have all the tools in college, but his development suffered by lack of coaching. Tom Brady wasn't the greatest college quarterback either....

"IME, Hoyer looked to have all the tools in college, but his development suffered by lack of coaching. Tom Brady wasn't the greatest college quarterback either...."
Is this sarcasm, maybe I'm not picking it up?
"Brady wasn't a good college QB" myths have been floating around NFL circles since Brady won the Super Bowl and they are just that, myths. 20-5 as a starter, seven comeback victories, a Big Ten championship and a bunch of school records. He was majorly underrated, but that is a judgment on the Mel Kipers of the world not Tommy B.

Painter is backing up manning too

Rumors in Philly are that the Pats are interested in trading for AJ Feeley from the Eagles. Just a matter of time before this happens now that the Birds know how long Vick will be out.

Locking down the state of Michigan? Maybe they'll draft Hiller next year...we all know having the most players from Michigan is the real objective of football.

Brady must be excited to have his little brother on the team.

I don't follow the NFL that closely, but don't pretty much all teams have some hack at backup QB? It's got to be tough to convince a good QB to sign on as a backup.

If Brady gets injured than they could be in trouble.
