What if we win on Sat?

Submitted by lilpenny1316 on

Has anybody thought about the consequences aftermath of us winning on Saturday?  I know it seems like a distant possibility, but at the end of the day...it's still Rutgers.  If this game was based solely on talent, we win the first half by 2 TDs.  Plus road games are preferred as opposed to playing in what has become a toxic environment.

I believe Hoke is officially done if we are no longer bowl eligible, like "Press Conference at 11AM Monday Done".  And I think getting to 6 or 7 wins just delays that press conference until December or January.

But I would at least like to hear what people's reactions/feelings may be after a positive outcome especially under such negative circumstances.  Will it be "let bygones be bygones" in relations to Hoke?  I think we may be 3-3 come 10PM Saturday night.  Am I crazy?  I mean...it's still Rutgers.

We are 3-3 and 1-1 in the B1G 10 with one shutout loss, a loss to an at best, average Utah team, and Minnesota. Beating rutgers shouldnt be a job saving win. That shows how low this program has become.

when Carr struggled his first two years and people weren't happy (4 straight 4 loss seasons although the first two were with Moe) a lot of people figured his victories over OSU teams ranked in the Top 5 helped keep the wolves at bay.  20 years later we're talking about beating an unranked Rutgers team being a win that keeps the wolves at bay

Here are my conditions for getting on board with Dave and Brady:

1) We win out. Put it at 1% possibility. High, I know.

2) Brady wears a headset and/or actually knows what the fuck is happening in the game. 5%

3) Brandon admits his flaws and embraces the student body (sounds gross) .001%

4) Solid recruiting class rounds out 40%

5) I still love Michigan and will support the program no matter what 100%

That leaves me at .00000002%

Not bad!

Sign me up for Brady/Brandon 2015 wooohooo!

Builds momentum going into UTL which can't hurt, I think that game is rocking - a 2 game win streak and a week to prepare for little brother and who knows what can happen - I'm staying positive and still think we can be an 8-4 team!

If we win, that will be huge and help hoke a lot. At least it will show that the team finally showed up this year.

If we lose, he's fired. RU is ok, but nothing special.

It's on the road.

That's like an automatic loss. Unless it's at Northwestern (2-0 in Evanston under Hoke, baby)

They should have a 4 game winning streak against Michigan.

  • 2011- Michigan was down 24-14 on the road at halftime. But 2011 was the year of the great halftime adjustments (that never happened in another year under Hoke ever) and NU perished giving up 28 unanswered points.
  • 2012- you mentioned it: Hail Mary
  • 2013- fire drill field goal

Honestly, I believe it really comes down to, how do we look as a team. Last week, the team literally gave up. You could see it, they just stopped playing. Heads were down, no confidence and it's hard not to feel the same way as fans.
There's no way to fix this quickly, or fix the problem after one game because there at too many problems on this team. All 3 phases of this team are bad. They can't run block, can't pass block, can't pick up blitzes, can't tackle, can't stop the run, and special teams is well, far from special. Unless we come out and totally dominate Rutgers, like we really should, I will remain in the same mind frame I am now. This team is bad, Brandon and Hoke need to go. #GoBluePlayers

I'd be happy for the team, and even, I must admit, for Hoke. What a shitty week to go through for all of them; a win would feel good, and I think they all deserve that.

fwiw, I think that unless there is some miracle where everything starts "clicking" soon, Hoke should be fired.

I'll be watching. At this point it's not even so much about the football, it's just about seeing what happens next. I would REALLY like to see Nuss and Gardner get the offense going some way, somehow and overcome whatever inexplicable nonesense continues to hamper that offensive line. Winning doesn't slow down the Fire Hoke train and losing only accelerates it, so a good performance by the offense at least gives us a "what about this guy?" option in Nuss in the event that we can't secure one of the top-level guys. There's also a possibility that the coaching search gets protracted due to the AD turnover and we need to viable interim solution.

...everyone else did...he put him back in the game...he is gone at the end of the season once a new AD is in place...what does this have to do with a win again Rutgers? Maybe a loss speeds up an interim coach...but that is a different issue?

Shane had a concussion is long and painful. You may not like that, but it is a fact. If the sequence of events put forward in Brandon's statement is, after a full review and investigation, found to be correct, the part of the process that failed was inside the medical staff not the coaching staff. The corrections made to prevent a reoccurance are entirely within the medical staff not the coaching staff.

Yes mistakes were made, and everyone is lucky that Shane was not further injured and it should not have happened. Hoke decided to put a player with a gimpy ankle but cleared to play back in the game for a single play.  Coaches don't get fired for that. Coaches get fired for playing a player against medcal advice and that is not what happened. If Hoke can turn the program around he won't be fired.

I don't like the fact that Shame was put back in, but IMHO given what happened Hoke shuold not be fired for it.

However almost no one in the stadium saw the hit.  They NEVER replayed it in the stadium.  Had they shown the replay, we all would have gone bizerk!  Everyone is watching the pass going to the receiver, not the QB.  The EVERYBODY IN THE STADIUM saw IT shit is getting really fucking old.  95% of the stadium crowd did not see it.

While I can accept that Hoke didn't realize the severity of the medical problem with Shane on Saturday, I actually can't accept that Hoke was completely oblivious and I don't feel the issue lies with the medical staff.

We are all aware of Hoke's "you gotta be tough" mentality towards his players when they are injured. From his own mouth he has told us that when Gardner was limping Hoke's 'pep talk' to him was "everybody is hurt, everybody could limp, now get out ther eand play." Well, Gardner had a broken foot. I can't even imgine how painful that must have been.

And so, to me, the idea that your OC is on the sidelines telling a player to "lay down" - so obviously saw SOMEthing - and yet didn't say a single word to his boss, is an idea that just isn't plausible. He MUST have some SOMEthing to Hoke, even if it was just "Hey, Shane looks pretty rattled." So the reality in my eyes is that Hoke again took on the "these boys need to stop being such pansies and play through the pain" mentality and blew off Shane's condition. Did he KNOW how bad it was? No. ~shrug~ But it's that it didn't even cross his mind that it could be anything other than his players being "soft" and that therefore they needed to "stop whining" that is exaclty what the problem is, and why that whole situation happened on Saturday. Having deniablity (in KNOWING that Shane had a concussion) is not an 'out' for Hoke in my mind, it instead only serves to show how lacking in awareness he is of every aspect of football, well beyond just the 'playing with a ball' part.

He could win every game until December and I'd be happy he went OUT on a high note. But in reality, what I see is 8 straight losses leading into December. And at this point I'd RATHER see the situation amplified because I think HOke is done regardless, but I think Brandon is going no where unless the situation gets even worse, and it's him that really needs to go!

A medical staff can not pull a kid off of the field.  What do you not understand about that? Hoke failed miserably and the medical staff on the field also failed miserably.  The students in the stands saw it.  Justice Hayes signalled for them to come get Shane.  The nuerologist in the stands saw it and was on his way to the field.  Per reports, Nuss tried to get Shane to go down so he could be evaluated.  When the ref asked Hoke if he wanted a TO when Shane was being put back in it shows that they had an idea it wasn't a good thing.

For both Hoke and the medical staff on the field to have no idea that Shane may have head trauma is laughable at best and criminal at worst.  The man makes over 3 million dollars to be the captain of the ship.  The play was replayed on the big screen.  If you don't think the original head shot did the damage then seeing the back of Shane's head bounce off the turf may have did it.  Either way, what happened is totally unacceptable and as the Captain of the ship it is on Hoke.

What in the hell have you saw the last two year that makes you think Hoke can turn this around? The uninspired play, the lack of halftime adjustments, the ill advised game plans, all the clapping Hoke does, or is it the fact that this is the only team in my life that has let its QB lay on the field after taking a cheap shot and not do a damn thing about it.

This is the school I graduated from and love, but I wouldn't send my kid to play for Hoke.  Can you imagine the field day opposing coaches will have on the recruiting trail with this?  This is problematic as, besides clapping, recruiting is the only thing has done well

DG should have a chip on his shoulder, and if he plays like he did when he came in the Minnesota game, Michigan wins.

I think a win will stop the free fall that the program is presently in, and sets up a possible bowl scenario.  If there is any hope of salvaging the season, it must start on Saturday.  All of this means a lot: it helps with recruiting, the transition, my sanity, among other things.

But I believe Hoke will be judged after the season, based on Michigan's high expectations, and where the team is at that point.

As for Brandon, it really comes down to how the Regents assess and weigh the concerns expressed by the students and alumni this week, in connection with whatever concerns they had about the excesses of the AD up until that point.  The case against Brandon is not about wins and losses, but rather how he has treated season ticket holders, students, and constituents who do not have million dollar checks to cut, and the dozens of ways he has eroded the traditions and game day experience at Michigan.
