What is gained by keeping Hoke until the end of the season?

There are reasons why I believe it is in the best interest of the program to let Hoke go now. - it reaffirms the message Michigan strives for excellence and doesn't accept being mediocre. That is important to alumni, fans, and recruits who support the program. - it puts an end to Hoke's influence on the team. Hoke has bred a culture of mistakes and lack of attention to detail. It would be an opportunity to sow the seeds for better performance next year. I just see no benefit in keeping him around at this point. Does anyone have legitimate reasons as to why Michigan should keep him through the OSU game at this point?

Keep Hoke until a new AD is in place. Then let HIM decide what to do. Don't limit his choices and let him choose the timeline for a replacement. That's the only reason I can come up with.

You keep the coach because you need to show "stability" at the top. The AD needs to be relieved of his duties. Let the new AD decide if he wants a new coach at the end of the season.

The problem with this scenario for UM is the AD at Arkansas is a possibility for UM. He is a friend of Hoke and his first order of business can't be firing his friend. Let DB sack Hoke, the the new UM pres fire DB. Start fresh.

When you fire a coach during the season, you have to name an interim. Who on this staff would make a good interim? Matison? Nuss? Freddie J? This whole situation is lose-lose.

Hoke is finished. Two weeks to prepare and that was the result? Really? That performance should seal his fate. He needs to go now.

But what about the AD? Sure, Brandon is likely a dickhead. The question is whether he's smart enough to learn from his mistakes. Maybe the decision to lower student ticket prices is an indication that maybe he has that ability. Thus, the next question is whether the football program can move forward with him still as AD.

If Brandon really cares about Michigan football, first and foremost, then he will do the necessary thing and relieve Hoke on Sunday or Monday. By doing so, he could demonstrate that he’s willing to admit a another mistake: That Hoke was the wrong hire to begin with. Brandon gets a mulligan. And maybe he can also learn to stay the hell-away from the football film room.

Now, does that mean one of the Harbaugh boys or Miles doesn’t come home again. Probably. But so what? Those guys aren’t the only coaches doing good things on the gridiron. And, frankly, maybe it’s time to stop jonesing on getting someone with some kind of Michigan connection (and I purposely didn’t say Michigan Man). Did Saban play at Alabama? How about Dantanio’s playing days at MSU?

Don’t get me wrong: one of the Harbaugh boys could be terrific for the rebuilding the program. But if it doesn’t work out because Brandon is the AD then it doesn’t work out. SO WHAT? Who’s next?

Michigan is still a great place for a coach to make a name for himself. After Chris Rock flamed out on SNL years ago, he rebuilt his career by going back to the basics of the comedy circuit. Michigan needs to get back to the basics of toughness, excellence and kicking-ass-and-taking-names. Who wants the job at a one helluva , Blue Blood football institution?

Michigan must get over this fetish of having someone who’s a product of the program. So let the search begin now on finding a suitable replacement. I don’t want to wait to go through an lengthy AD search and then followed by a lengthy search for a head coach.
