What is the Best Music in the Big House?
Mates,
For many of you tomorrow will be a fantastic Saturday at the Big House. Like you, I expect that bearcat stew will be served sometime before halftime, meanwhile the tempertures will be great and the sun shining. Love the marching band which at least for me will always be #1 for music. I'm also glad they aren't playing nearly as much, nor as loud of 'rawk' music at the games. That said, I must admit that I have an affinity for some of the songs that you frequently hear at the Big House, songs that I would never otherwise be listening to.
Norfleet's dance music of a few years ago is a perfect example, Sandstorm and Atomic Dog (link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IneWNeRFP) songs I would have never known existed if I hadn't seen it myself:
So the question is this, excepting the MMB which is king of the hill, what are your favorite songs to hear while you are in your seat at the Big House?
Have a great game day, and Go Blue!

None of the above. MMB über alles.

but you can't deny there are a few songs they play that you dig.
September 8th, 2017 at 6:39 PM ^
Nope. Don't like the rawk.

I would be fine with MMB only

I would strongly support MMB only. The rawk is something any stadium anywhere could pipe in, but only Michigan has the MMB.

The band actually did play Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald for the Hawaii halftime last year. I doubt they would ever play it as a stands tune, but it's not impossible.

Didn't even have any pull when I was in the band. The RAWK ship has sailed. Wish the band had stood up a bit more when that started, but they apparently didn't.
If you want to read some tea leaves about how MMB-Athletics dynamics works, there's a podcast about marching bands that came across my feed, and John Pasquale did it over the summer.

Go forward to about the 10 minute mark. There's a subtle drop in there about DB influencing halftime shows. And much discussion about how decisions are made.

My first season was '71 and there wasn't any fucking "rock music." The worst part was Cavender's bizarre insistence on playing show tunes from "Hello, Dolly" at halftime, but other than that it was just the MMB the way it's supposed to be.

The Germans refer to it as Kuschelrock (snuggle rock).
Americans don't care. They just love it.
"Don't Stop Believin!" by Journey,
"I just died in your arms tonight!" by The Cutting Crew
"Every Rose Has Its Thorn" by Poison
"Love of a Lifetime" by Firehouse.
"Love Bites" by Def Lepard
These should be played at all college football games because mandatory, man.

The M Fanfare, followed by the full version of The Victors suits me just fine. Unexpectedly was given tickets by a season ticket holding friend today, so my son and I will be there in the SW corner, row 47 to hear that tomorrow.
Oh, I think the football game should be a fun watch too....

That and "Sweet Caroline" ... I can't stand either one in the stadium.
Like others here, I'd be OK with just the MMB.
I wonder why "Down on the Street" by The Stooges (Ann Arbor and all) isn't in the playlist.

I have been so annoyed every time this plays in the Big House. Now there is some car commercial that plays this song and I refuse to listen to it. And I definitely won't be buying that car. Ever.

(All rise for Michigan!)
Wolverines~!
(All rise for Michigan!)
We are the blue regime: ferocious, lean, and mean!
We're gonna reign supreme! We are the Wolverines!
You won't forget our name! We'll bring the hurt and pain!
We're gonna change the game! We are the Wolverines!
In the Big House, we'll put your lights out!
Come on and shout out, "The Wolverines are comin'!"
In the Big House, we're gonna get loud!
We ain't got no doubt! The Wolverines are comin'!
Yeah!
Hail, hail to Michigan! Hail to the Wolverines!
Hail to the victors! Believers! Tradition!
Hail, hail to Michigan! Hail to the Maize Rage!
Hail to the blue, the tried, and the true!
We're gonna show our teeth! We're gonna stomp our feet!
We'll bring you to your knees! We are the Wolverines!
We're gonna get real loud! We're gonna feel the crowd!
We do Ann Arbor proud!

Really respect that the lyrics to a song that broke humanity can also break an MGoThread.
