What are you going to do instead of watch the game on Saturday?

Like many of you, I'm done wasting my time for 3-4 hours every Saturday. What are you doing instead of watching the game on Saturday?

Myself? I'm going to a ballet on Saturday. My best friend is performing and I'll only get to see her perform once, maybe twice more, so I'm going to take this opportunity and enjoy it, knowing that come Monday, we'll be hearing about a lack of execution from Hoke, no matter what we do.

The same thing that I've done for the past four Saturdays. I'll be working on getting as much done as I can outside while it is warm and dry. Then, I'll be working on restoring my basement at night.

I didn't renew cable this fall, so I watched the Notre Dame game at my parents' house. I figured Miami would be a comfortable win/blowout or else I wouldn't want to watch. My wife's uncle was installing our new furnace and air conditioner during the Utah game. I got an antenna, watched the first quarter of the Minnesota game, decided I'd watch the 4th quarter if it was close, and then kept working. I didn't have a reason to watch the 4th quarter.

I'm trying to finish my basement by November so that I can refinance my mortgage. Those 3-4 hours every weekend are hard to justify when I know what the outcome is going to be. If they show me that they are able to compete, then I'll watch. Otherwise, I'll use that time to expedite the thing that is going to save me money.

I'm gonna head down to Kentucky to go rock climbing. The last couple years, I've missed multiple opportunities to go climbing (in the peak of climbing season) for Michigan football. I will not be making that mistake this year.

It occurs during Break Fast so I will probably watch with my cousins. We had a good time last year though that as Iowa vs. Iowa State. Maybe our team can come to play and our coaches can get their heads out of their asses. Probably not but will probably still watch anyway.

game. I love Devin. I love JMFR. I love all of the players. I am watching. I am praying that someone steps up and shows leadership in what is a huge clusterfuck. The coaches need to show leadership, but in not counting on it. I'm counting on (read: hoping like hell) some player leadership leads them to come out on the other end with some dignity. These players deserve my support... and that's not a judgement on anyone who doesn't feel that way, but I am most sick for the players, and I am rooting for some sort of victory... them coming together... them having some success of some sort in this mess.

pointing dogs through the glorious aspens of northern Michigan all weekend. So, I may get an update at Spike's in Grayling, or the Meadows in Wolverine. Hell, maybe even Leg's Inn, or the Brown Trout.

Going to the game - post fast - so probably will get there for the second half.  Sitting on the 50 upstairs with my wife and 2 friends.  It is a Rutgers "blackout" game (all Rutgers fans encouraged to wear black) so I will be the guy in the bright maize shirt with my head in my hands.  Couldn't pass up a local game.  Hopefully by the time I get there it will be a game.

Consider ...

Test game #1 - versus Notre Dame - we learned that despite some changes (new OC, new scheme, people getting healthy, losing weight, etc) the Wolverines weren't making a big leap forward - no one really panicked too much after the loss because we were all there last year. Just confirmed we still had a ways to go.

Test game #2 - versus Utah - very painful loss, in what looked like a possible winnable game against a team which will probably finish in the middle of the PAC-12. It confirmed that the team continues to have issues but started highlighting that it was not a question of having talent as much as the coaching and training. Still there was a glimmer of hope that maybe Utah was just good and we could still round into shape.

Test game #3 - versus Minnesota. EVEN more painful in another possibly winnable game to a squad everyone has to admit is less individually talented than the Wolverines. Again pointed out how well the other team was coached, prepped and ready. They had a good game plan (run and stay with the run, throw a little bit, play defense, look for a turnover and get that kicking game working - sort of a 1950-1960's plan, an oldie but it worked) and they won handily - again it was clear that there were serious coaching and training issues. All hope is nearly extinguished - doubt that Minnesota will beat out Nebraska or Wisconsin in the west so are looking at being the bottom dwellers of either division.

Test game #4 - with hopes of a national ranking gone, hopes of a Big Ten run largely gone (it would take a miracle this side worthy of a Disney film to run the rest of the Big Ten) and the possibility of a total implosion looming the Wolverines hit to New Jersey. At stake is the rest of the season. Win, and they might (just might) hope to be number 3 in the Eastern Division. Lose and lose badly, the rest of the season will all be toss up games.

I hope that the team turns around. At moments like this the business side and the spectator side of the game recede. They are not clearly going to be "contenders" but if they continue to play hard, improve and pull together for each other they will have a camaraderie that is of the type that does build and strengthen character. But it is now only for them - play your best and take satisfaction and pride in your team mates. As spectators we like to toss around platitudes like character building, sacrifice and "the team" but this is really the moment where it can matter - just we don't get to experience at home because we don't make the sacrifices, and it is not our characters being scrutinized.

So Go Blue! Stay healthy! Play tough and play well and hang in there for each other!

I will watch because it's Michigan and I will support the players in my own way, even if I am not a fan of the coaching and disenchanted with the leadership. I am far too much of a football addict not to watch my own school play anyway, but I can't deny that there will be a supply of booze nearby just in case. I'll get through it just fine too and wade through the modding afterwards.

I will watch because the season will miraculously turn around and we will win all of the games left on our schedule enroute to a big ten championship and rose bowl victory. A made for TV movie about this season will soon follow.

I'll watch bc "We still have all our goals in front of us", and "This team can still win the Big Ten championship".

I'm going to watch the game. Because I'm not a whiny pansy like so many other Michigan fans. This is the team and the program that I root for. Not just when they're winning or when they're playing the music in the stadium that I like.

Too many fair-weather fans in the world...
