What's on your tailgate menu?

We usually do brats, hot dogs, burgers by default. Change it up as the season goes on.

regularly go to games, so I am often watching games at home and consuming moderate to heavy alcohol.  However, I have a question for regular attendees.  Do you drink before you go into the stadium, and if so, how much?  To me, the worse feeling in the world is coming down from an alcohol buzz, and with no drinking in the stadium, I would think that drinking and then stopping would almost ruin the game.  Even when I was younger and went to a lot of games, I would not drink at a tailgate if I was going to actually go to the game.

if you do, do you sneak alcohol in or just drink water and deal with the headache?  Do you most often wish you hadn't?

Headaches? Only part-time drinkers get those! My issue with heavy tailgate drinking is have to frequently get up and use the bathroom after the seal has been broken...kind of a pain at Michigan Stadium.

I actually didn't drink before or during games during my college days, and have largely stuck to that since.  (This is for games I'm at in person, not watching on TV)  I've found that drinking much before games dehydrates me too much.  And sitting there for 3 to 3.5 hours, it's too difficult.  For the few nightgames I've gone to, I have had booze before them however.  But, after the games is a different story.

when I am really coming down, 4-5 hours or more afterwards. A flask in the old inside coat pocket does the trick though.

But to answer your questions, the three of us will typically drink 8-14 beers and 5-8 shots each in the 4 hours before kickoff.  We take care not to let any of us get "annoyingly" drunk.  We're functional, still able to walk and talk (without spitting/yelling) etc.

I will hopefully be tailgating for the Maryland game (my bachelor party, w00t). Haven't tailgated on the golf course in years. Before the games at home I've been doing the MGoBBQ recipes. We've been making food for those that I would tailgate with as they all come to our house for the games. The recipes don't disappoint and I think any i've tried would be good candidates for tailgating. I also like having a variety. Did you have any of that grilling cheese? Man was that good.

Let's disregard the fact that we've had this discussion on the board many times over the years and that there are literally frontpaged recipes that would be great to use for tailgating.

If MGowOld had posted this you can bet he would have included a recipe himself or something that approximated a unique take on the idea of tailgating instead of "I eat hotdogs and brats, and burgers... sometimes it's different. DISCUSS!"

I tend to skip any thread that asks me to participate, but I was dissapointed it turned into a "I drink so much I'm immune to hangovers thread."  And any idiot who who post a thread and ends it with Discuss!, should be sent to Bolivia...  This wasn't that bad, but you are correct, a little extra insight or recipe would have changed everything.

Exactly.

A) You could have tailgated underage. It's really not that difficult.

B) You have to know what food is served at tailgates. It's food. You've been eating it presumably for 21 years now.

C) Why would you post here if you're genuinely curious? Google it.

D) Isn't this something you ask your friend who you are tailgating with, if anyone? Why would you want to know what other people are eating on Saturday morning?

E) I just really REALLY hate what this space is becoming.

Noon kick?  Beer followed by beer and shots and more beer.  Followed by ribeye on the grill, sunny side eggs ontop of steak, and bacon.

3:30 kick?  Beer followed by beer and shots and more beer.  Followed by ribeye on the grill, and typically grill roasted potatoes, grilled potatoes and corn on the cob.

Evening game?  No food because I already ate.  So just beer followed by beer and shots and more beer.
