What's your most treasured piece of sports memorabilia? Father's day edition
Mine is a baseball signed by every member of the 1968 Detroit Tigers. My late father was a dentist who happened to have Jim Price as a patient. My dad got Jim to get every player and coach's autograph on the ball sometime near the end of the season and gave it to me on my ninth birthday. The names are a bit faded (after all it's 42 years old) but you can still clearly make them out although Earl Wilson's and Joe Sparma's are a bit faded.
I've had several offers to sell it but no way in hell I am ever parting with that ball. I was thinking about my dad today (he passed two years ago) and what a very cool gift that was.
What's yours?
PS: I also have a program from a game he took me to the next year agains the Red Sox. It was a doubleheader and I kept score during the game. The coolest thing about it is the full page ad for 1969 GTO Judge on the back cover!
Mine is a Steve Yzerman autographed game worn jersey. I'm a big Wings fan so it means a lot to me.
Got my pops an autographed Jack Lambert helmet last year and this year a giant autographed photo of Woodley laying out Rivers.
A fair bit of Gordie Howe stuff, including a painting signed by him. I also have a jersey I wore in Mites signed by basically everyone on the 1997 Blackhawks.
Mine is a game used Terrelle Pryor Jersey ... bought it at a tattoo shop in Columbus .... Okay to be serious ... mine is a ball autographed by the 1986 Tiger Team. When I was 8 I hit by a car and was in a coma. It was a 50/50 chance of survival. I was a Tigers fan at that young age, and my dad worked with a guy who was friends with one of the players. He was able to get Sparky Anderson up to Childrens hospital, and he brought the ball to me. I would never sell it, as it means so much to me.
My first Michigan game was with my dad. It was a basketball game in Hawaii vs North Carolina. Rose hit a shot at the buzzer to win the game..afterwards I was able to get all the members of the fab 5s autographs on my hat.
and Rose Bowl programs from every Michigan RB since 1979. The '89 stub (when we came form behind to beat USC) mounted in a lucite block. Should do the same to the '98 stub.
My dad has a $100 check, made out to cash, signed by Ty Cobb. It's framed with a couple of pictures of Ty Cobb. I don't know why he signed a check, but I think it's really really cool. My dad has it hanging in his basement.
I've got to stop reading this thread.
I have a Bo Schembechler autographed panoramic of Michigan Stadium. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I also have a program and ticket stubs from the national championship in 97. I'd have to go with the panoramic though as my number 1.
Wow.
Ray Nitschke signed pic, and maybe best of all, Signed Painting of Mike Eruzione's winning goal vs. the Soviets in 1980.
OT: http://michigan.scout.com/2/1080803.html saw this article about recruits and their fathers and ondre says some pretty intresting stuff about wanting to go visit michigan badly and that a decision is lurking
The process might end a little sooner than I expected. I can't wait to get up to Michigan to visit.
Chris Webber, Jalen Rose and Eric Riley.
my most prized sports possession is a signed terry bradshaw football i received from my late uncle
I don't really own anything I would consider "treasured", but I do still have a six-pack of 1997 U-M NC Pepsi in my closet.
I had two that I held onto for a while. One got a super tiny pinhole leak and got Pepsi all over my desk at work. Then I threw the other one away. Oops.
I got an autographed picture of Lawrence Taylor from my dad as well as a Derek Jeter rookie card. My dad's from Holland, Michigan and I was born in raised in NJ, so I'm a Michigan fan for football and basketball but a NJ/NY fan for all pro teams.
Another more sentimental piece is my Dad's old transistor radio that he used to listen to Tigers games on. A couple years ago he was going to get rid of the old thing but I grabbed it from his hands before he could throw it away.
1 - BO autograph
2 - Mickey Mantle autograph
3- Wayne Gretzky autograph
4 - every other michigan autograph that i have ever gotten...
My brother got Lloyd Carr to autograph a panoramic of Michigan Stadium when I graduated from here. It was personalized to my name and says " A Great Michigan Man. Go Blue!"
I have a Travis Fryman autographed baseball and a picture of me when I was 9 with him getting it signed. He's not the greatest athlete ever, but he was by far my favorite baseball player ever and it was a big deal to me. The day he was traded was an awful day, fucking Randy Smith...
Al Kaline autographed ball
1) An '05 Pistons-Spurs Finals hat signed by Chauncey Billups
2) A Michigan hat signed by Charles Woodson/ A wine bottle from Charles Woodson's winery signed by him
3) A football signed by Don Shula, Dan Marino and a bunch of other Hall of Famers
4) A basketball signed by the '06 Pistons team
Also have a Mantle, but I didnt actually get it myself.
My cards (if that counts) are awesome. Most are probably worthless. But I have a sealed box of 1989 upper deck wax. A mint Joe Montana. A 1984 fleer updated Kirby Puckett. A bunch of great hockey - Yzerman OPC rookies, Lemieux, Gretzky.
1- Bo's autograph on his first book
2- Tim Biakabutuka autographed towel i guess
When I was a kid, I was at a cub scout camp, and Ted Williams, the Splendid Splinter himself, was giving a fishing demonstrated. When he needed to use a pocket knife, I was the first to get mine out. Naturally, I kept that knife as a treasured possession to this day.
During his rookie season the Tigers were playing in Cleveland. Justin was getting some off day throws out in the pen before the game and as he was walking back to the dugout he stopped to sign a ball I had and shoot the crap for a few minutes. I also got Ferndo Rodney;s autograph on the back side as he was walking with Verlander. Besides that ball it would have to be the picture I got at around 11-12 with Walter Payton. He was a minority owner of a Indycar team and he was in the pits at a Belle Isle race. Dude was beyond a class act. He even went as far as to put bunny ears on me.
My Steve Yzerman autographed jersey, plus a picture with a bunch of the playes circa 1997 or so. I got Slava Kozlov, Igor Larinov, Larry Murphy and Nicklas Lidstrom's autographs on it, 3 hall of famers and a pretty solid player not too shabby.
Photos of me with Bo and Lloyd, personally signed to me by both of them, framed along with a picture of my dad and i on the field after a game during my time in the MMB.
Signed Muhammad Ali boxing robe that he wore himself. Framed with 2 pictures. Also have 2 boxing gloves signed by him.
I have some autographed Red Wings things but the way some things are I have no idea if they are authentic or not. Although it's not really memorabilia, I would have to say the picture I took of Denard in the UConn game last year is up there.
#1 Autographed Charles Woodson Jersey. Signed by him of course
#2 Autographed Jack Johnson UM hockey Jersey
I have a Mickey Mantle autographed baseball my dad got me when I was a kid. That and the picture I have of myself and Lloyd at the team dinner before the 2005 Alamo Bowl are my favorites.
tie between Mickey Mantle autograph when I met him as a kid and "the banner"...during the '97 cup finals the wings had a 10ft or so wide banner between the upper and lower bowl that featured the logo in clouds and said hockey heaven. As game 4 was ending with the help from those next to me I removed it and took it. That summer I got it signed by every player and coach sub vlad. Best part is Ward saw it and said it looked familiar and asked where I got it and said his company made it and jokingly said I guess you don't want to return it. Only thing that sucks is takes up lots of wall space.
My dad has a ball signed by a 1950's Red Sox team, not sure of the year, and the most prominent signature is Ted Williams'. It's been on his bureau for as long as I can remember.
i have an authentic 2010 world cup game-worn North Korea soccer jersey signed by the entire team. not kidding.
I grew up a huge Jordan fan and had the chance as a middle schooler to follow him around a golf course once on a private club near my hometown. He signed a picture for me when he finished. With that said, I have had a couple of opportunities to actually play golf with Gayle Sayers and have a signed score card from the first time we played. He played in the NFL before I was born, but I have seen plenty of film on him. Because I actually got to play with him and have a beer with him after the round, that is definitely a bigger memory for me.
I have a few Michigan football jerseys but my favorite would most likely be a 2005 Game Issued Lamarr Woodley Alamo Bowl jersey. He was one of my favorite players in college and has turned out to be a stud in the NFL.
I have a wind up drag car my grandfather got me on the day I was born in 1964. My parents never let me play with it when I was a kid so its still in mint shape even have the box it came in. I also have a picture (taken by my wife's cousin, he's a professional photographer) of the first pitch at Comerica park signed by the pitcher. It's cool because you can see the entire scoreboard including the clock.
Also a UM basketball signed by Steve Fisher from UM basket ball camp back in the day.

Don't have much else
Can't take anymore. Too much.
Justin Verlander no hitter ball signed from his '08 no hitter vs the Brewers
That's awesome.
1. Lem barney signed lions jersey and picture with him and charlie saunders
2. Tigers jersey autographed by verlander and Granderson
I have alot of sports cards and card sets, but i don't consider that memorbila, even though I would consider myself a serious sportscard collector.
I will get Al kaline and Barry sanders and Charles Woodson eventually though in regards to autographs and jerseys.
Kaline is suppose to sign at a autograph show I am going to
Michigan winged helmet signed by Charles Woodson.
Mario Manningham and Mike Hart signed winged helmet, love it
close 2nd is a Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton mini basketball
Manningham and Hart are my two favorite players in college football. The first game I ever saw on TV they both scored. I was in middle school then so it was cool as hell. That game along with NCAA 2008 has made me love those guys.
