This Week in Schadenfreude -- Assembly Hall Edition
The Daily posted one of its reporters in the Indiana student section with results that harken back to Brian's old "This Week in Schadenfreude" columns:

It still amazes me how many OPs don't include a link.

The one thing all those posters have in common is this board's software. You can believe that there are a hundred different reasons for a hundred different posters, or one reason for one set of software.

Not me. I don't know any other remotely popular message board that doesn't automatically turn link type things into clickable links. A good chunk even automatically embed Tweets from a simple web address too.

I believe it's Juwan Morgan. Not Jordan. Jordan Morgan was a hell of a good player for Michigan though!

Yeah if you're writing that piece or if you're the editor, you got to get that right. Juwan Morgan is an All B10 type of player. Has been for a couple of years. That's like getting Casey Edwards' name from Purdue wrong. Or Alan Happ for the Badgers. Anyway, can't wait until this team plays Cassius Windsor and Nick Word. Looking forward to that.

Your point would have been better made if you had called him Prick Ward.

A reminder of my age: the Indiana fan featured in the picture is my college girlfriend’s son.

Well.
You have good taste in Blogs.

Great article. The comments don't surprise me - the Hoosier fans love their team and deserve better than what they got last night.
Interestingly, the comments from their fans sound like 40% of posters on our live blog last night - that negative vocal minority of Michigan fans. And we kicked their ass in Bloomington by 23.
We are turning into spoiled SOBs after several years of great Beilein coached teams.
Go Blue!

Would love to see how many of those types went to games 10 years ago when just making the tournament was our goal since it hadn't happened in a decade.

Still have to pinch myself sometimes. Even being ranked used to be unthinkable; now we’re regular residents in the top five. I honestly doubted the program would ever return to the final four; we’ve been twice and can legitimately hope for a second in a row. MSU used to be an unassailable mountain against whom we never won; now we have a winning streak.
This is genuinely remarkable. What a ride.

Just think, we went NINETEEN YEARS between Sweet 16 appearances (1994 to 2013) - and that's not because of vacated games. A generation of kids grew up never seeing us do anything in the tournament.
January 27th, 2019 at 11:22 AM ^
Dude, for real. I remember when we made the tourney as a 10 seed back when I was in high school, and I'd never been so hype for March Madness.

I hate our basketball fanbase. There I said it. I sat through the ellerbe and amaker years. People either dont know basketball, or are just miserable sonsabitches because they dont realize how good we have it.
Not every team will win a championship or even make a final four. But this is about as good as a program can consistently be, so just shut up and enjoy it. The fact Beilein is doing it clean and often with a roster disadvantage is amazing.

Just the basketball fanbase?
January 26th, 2019 at 9:59 PM ^
Some of the football fans are horrible as well.
I don't think Beilein is working with a roster disadvantage anymore. Recruiting has been excellent and he and his staff are great at coaching them up.

Taking pleasure in the suffering of other sports fans is definitely the darkside of human nature in sports. But it sure is fun...

If you do live in Indy - you deserve a little such pleasure, Indy Pete. I am sure you have taken your fair share of abuse as a Michigan fan, every year when hoops season is upon us...

It's relatively harmless schadenfreude, though. Except for the idiots who punch TVs, those people need emotional help.
January 26th, 2019 at 1:19 PM ^
And throw chairs - a phenomenon that has been known to happen once in a while at Assembly Hall...

"Honestly, I’m proud of these guys. Indiana looked great until the very end when Michigan managed to pull away on a 69-46 run. Good game."
January 26th, 2019 at 1:20 PM ^
“I love that,” said freshman forward Ignas Brazdeikis after the game. “One of my favorite parts of basketball is shutting the crowd down. I love going on the road.”
We need another year of statements like this, even though it is likely we won't get it. I really like this kid.

Sweeping IU in the regular season, wow! I attended Michigan from 84-87. In those days no matter how good Michigan was, they absolutely had to win the early January home game with Indiana to have any shot at all of a Big Ten Championship. If not, you knew they were going to lose at Assembly Hall, and no way Michigan was going to make up a two game deficit (plus tie breaker) over the Hoosiers in the rest of the Conference schedule. Very frustrating.
