This is great and all, but this would be a parallel move for him. Not sure it makes sense unless he likes the college game better. Can he recruit?

He coached at Eastern for a year (2003), so he knows what it's like to live in the area.

He's also originally from Cleveland Heights, Ohio.  So, maybe he'd be able to help us with some OSU recruiting battles in Ohio.

I think that Hoke has built a great staff that can seem to recruit really well.  What I want to see from a DB coach is someone who is a great coach.  Someone who can coach up this secondary and get them playing well.  For several years, our secondary has been rough.

How long is Mattison going to be the head DC.  I'm guessing 3 to 5 years so if this guy is talented he could learn under mattison and become the next DC.

Certainly looks like we could do worse.  Tony Oden has college experience (BC, ECU, EMU) and the Saints secondary seems to have done well while he's been there.  League leading pick-sixes sounds nice.

Is Corwin Brown still a possibility? Great recruiter, M ties. I know he was thrown out there by Brian on WTKA the week before last, and Brian mentioned him in one of his posts.

I swear there have been about four different seasons now since his NFL career ended where people thought "OK, this is the year Corwin comes back to Ann Arbor" due to some opening at DBs coach or even DC a few years ago. And yet it never works out that way.

Makes you wonder a little bit about those institutional politics and if he has beef with somebody.

first off, I think getting another nfl guy would be great, don't get me wrong.  But the Saints went  for a lot of picks and did get them, but they also got burned a lot (see recent Seattle game) as an example.  Now Brees can offset a lot of defensive risks, so maybe Denard can as well.  Also the the defense was injured a lot too, so that may have something to do with it.  Anyway, if UM can get this guy, go for it.

Sorry, but Im born in raised in Louisiana and its still crazy to see how a couple of years can do to changing peoples perception of a franchise.... My family was a season ticket holder for the Saints up until the hurricane and then it was near impossible to get season tickets....

As much as winning the Superbowl has sunk in, but the fact that we are consistently good is foreign to me... I always have the Wolverines as my safety choice year in and year out to succeed to overcome the depression from the Saints. now its a little role reversal, even though its hard to admit... Especially with these bayou bengal fags down here..

Hopefully Hoke does very well... The defense staff is shaping up beyond my wildest dreams, but I'm still worried about the offense. I can't help but think how awesome it would be to have Richrod on offense and Mattison on defense. I know he wouldn't be here unless Brady Hoke was the coach.. But damn!

I have offended a number of individuals in my life and am not trying to play the role of high and mighty as I am far from it. I do think it is important not to throw racial/ethnic/sexual slurs around on this site especially if one is hoping for credibility. I did not even neg this individual, I merely passed along some advice to someone who might not know the climate. I lived in San Francisco for two years and I can tell you first hand how much this word means to people. Although I am straight and happily married I do not presume that everyone on this site is like me and to do so would be naive and insensitive, not to mention ignorant.

Nice to finally hear somebody's name mentioned for the job. I am not very patient to begin with but man have we taken our sweet ass time filling our last 2 coaching positions.

That would be a huge pick-up, as he's young and a midwest (Ohio) native.  Plus, like others have noted, he could step in as DC when Mattison retires.  This is where Brandon's "let's spend money" mantra needs to be put into effect.

And this is no way attacks Hoke or this staff, but I kind of wish UM had shown this same spending foresight under the RR era.

He would be a great choice as the DB coach.  Bringing in the NFL caliber coaches would definitely make the staff better and attract great recruits.  I just hope Hoke continues to put the pieces together so well.  I've had a great feeling about him since he became the coach.

I prefer cornflakes but NO's secondary has been good in the past few years.  Plus he is from the Midwest so that is a plus.

as long as he can recruit.  He may not know the midwest area, but I'm sure the other coaches could show him around.  On the other hand, he may have some good contact down in LA, who knows?
