We have to do it again next year

I apologize in advance if this is too snow-flakey. Saturday was amazing. I was fully in a state of BPONE in the third quarter when it appeared that we might just screw up enough again to let another one slip away despite being clearly better. But in the end, talent and determination won out.

But here’s the thing. These guys haven’t learned their lesson yet. The narrative is that we “barely beat” a bunch of “third stringers”. Keep in mind this was a team that had more starters back then they had when they beat PSU in happy valley the week before. A convenient card to play nonetheless.

For years, MSU held the mental edge as well as the physical edge. The talent has flipped dramatically, and now it looks like the mental edge is gone as well. Harbaugh doused the flames with a whole barrel of gasoline. Fine with me. Now we gotta back it up. Can’t let them come into Ann Arbor again and take another one. I’m stating the obvious and it’s a year away, but I really hope we keep that laser focus on this rivalry that seems to have been missing. A good start this year, now bury them again next year so we can finally throw some dirt on their graves.

Lmao what a horrible mentality for this dude to have. We just laid an absolute ass beating on them, we're in first in the Big Ten, we have a bye week to heal before the revenge tour continues against Key And Peele Brady Hoke with a human version of Russian Roulette playing QB. Who cares about next year right now, we have this year to enjoy.

I'm kind of more in the "I hope we do that again two weeks from now, only better!" train of thought at this point.  I know, fan perspective doesn't matter.  But I hope this team lives up to its potential this season.  I think enough has been said about MSU.

I hope we do it the next 4 games, but at this point I just want to do this to OSU.  That is the game I care most about at this point and I just want this team to put to bed that Harbaugh hasn't beat OSU.

Please, please, please just let this happen.

The OP was a routinely "pump the brakes guy" in any thread that showed optimism for this game. And a big Sparty aplologist. I don't doubt he's already scared for next season's game and Sparty's "retaliation".

Seek help.

The narrative that you mention does not exist outside Spartan message boards.

Who cares about MSU now? So many more important games to go from here.  The only people thinking about MSU/UM next year live in East Lansing.

You are either some kind of closet MSU fan or you spend a bunch of time on MSU message boards and they warped your brain. Do something else.

Ok good point. The narrative I mentioned probably only exists on the RCMB, but it’s still stupid. And yes, dealing with idiot Sparty fans over the years has made this a very big deal to me. I just want this pack of frauds to fade into the sunset once and for all. I think we can oblige them.

Lol. Are you kidding me?

Enjoy the win or move onto PSU in two weeks. We can evaluate what it means to "have to win" the MSU game next season when we have more context of what is going on next year. Also, what if we don't? Are you going to personally fire Harbaugh yourself?

MSU's season is over. Ours is not. We are in the top five. The playoff is a real possibility. We have a score to settle with PSU, business to take care of against Rutgers and Indiana, and The Game coming on November 24th. OSU is vulnerable. We have a QB and an OL and (do we ever) a defense.

Now is the time. This year.

This is a fine post when the MSU conversation comes up after this season. Your thoughts aren't bad at all.

Man, I am too happy about what just happened this past weekend, to be distracted by this, and have that happiness robbed.

Can't you be happy with what just happened this past weekend? Michigan just dominated Michigan St. Ohio St lost badly to unranked Purdue, and fell hard in the rankings. And Michigan was jumped up to #5, poised to move into the top 4, after either LSU or Alabama loses in 2 weeks.

Leave it to this board to extinguish the happiness of this awesome weekend.

I'm looking for Michigan to absolutely dominate Penn St like 2 years ago. That's were I'm looking!

We're in good shape to revert back to the normal dynamic. I posted in another thread that we currently have 42 four- or five-star (per 247 composite) guys on our roster, with 11 more in the 2019 class. MSU has 13 on the roster currently, with two more in the 2019 class. Starzz aren't the best measure of talent, but they're a decent one. And the comparison is not close.

Can't be too early to talk about what a monstrosity it is, for UM-MSU to be scheduled for November 16, the day after the opening of firearms deer season.

The overall dynamics of our 2019 schedule is such an abomination.  As ever, we are getting MSU and OSU jammed onto the same home/away rotation.  Notre Dame jammed into October.

And the Michigan State game jammed into deer season.

Black Pit Of Negative Expectations.  If you reside in it, every time something happens you're just waiting for the other shoe to drop and things to go badly.  If Shea connects on a beautiful throw to DPJ for a 79-yard touchdown, you're waiting for the next TV shot to be the ref saying "Holding, offense."  If we fumble a handoff on our own 6 and MSU scores on a trick play that fires up the whole stadium, you interpret that as a momentum shift and a sign that the universe hates us, rather than shrugging and realizing that that really was the only way Sparty could score all day long.

It is not considered an irrational place to be, given the last decade or so.  Brian's Notre Dame write-up introduced the concept, at least for this year.

Hm, I was thinking that with this win we rectified the ledger and it doesn't matter what happens in next year game, but OPs eloquent arguments to the contrary have caused me to reconsider my cavalier stance on thisnissue.

MS who?

Next year?

Dang the fan base needs this bye week even more than the team.

Some of us need to make it a "bye bye" week if ya know what I mean; take a few days, let go of the past and hit the reset button for the finish to this year, which hopefully doesn't end with us playing Mississippi St. in the outback bowl.

The psychological stuff is way overblown IMO.  The fact of the matter is that Dantonio is 6-1 against RR/Hoke and 2-3 against Carr/Harbaugh (and he's lucky to have those two wins).  His record says more about us as a program than him.

You know what?  Fuck sparty/sharty.  Our team beat the crap out of theirs.  Now they can go back to being on our 'take care of business' wins list each season.

no need to worry about MSU for a year regarding football. Only thing UM needs to do is pound psu. The team still seems pissed and I love it.
