Way OT: Super Bowl Ads
Kinda surprised the other user content creators didn't throw one of these up already, and my search ddint turn anything more recent than 2009 up so...here goes.
What was your favorite ad? Was this year particularly better or worse or have people stopped paying attention? Mine had to be the Game of Thrones inspired rap battle between Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) and God (Morgan Freeman) for Doritos and the Mountan Dew. I'd be willing to bet Pepsi tried to get Danny Targarion (Emilia Clark), but weren't able to come to terms...thoughts?

Tide easily won the night. They were so randomly placed too that you never knew when to expect them. They got me to the point that I was watching for unclean shirts in other commercials just to see if I could catch em early. Still buying cheap detergent though....laundry detergent is way too expensive.

What was the other detergent company that had one? Persill or something? Never heard of them. How pissed are those guys this morning?
"Hey, let's do a Super Bowl ad! No detergent ever advertises during the Super Bowl. This will blast our brand directly into the hearts and minds of America!"
...And then the industry leader buys about an hour's worth of memorable spots and nukes every advertiser on the planet.

Is very popular in Europe. My friend who has done an expat assignment in Germany swears by the stuff and prefers it to any US detergent brands.
Most tests seem to put Tide and Persil about even, or Persil slightly better than Tide.

None of them did much for me. It just seemed like they paid famous people to lip sync and dance, so not very creative or interesting to me. I also can't stand the commercials that try to act like using Crest or whatever is some revolutionary act or pretending like the commercial is "inspriational", and that seemed to be a theme this year.

I was just happy that the commercials weren't overly politicized like they have been in years' passed. I don't care if it comes from the left or right side of the aisle. Those ads are frickin buzzkills, and we're surrounded by all of it so much in our daily lives already. I just want funny, light-hearted commercials on Super Bowl Sunday, and the occasional Clint Eastwood narrative about Detroit's second half revival.
Now, as far as some of my favorites from last night:
-Manningham and Odell Beckham doing some dirty dancing. That was just awesome and completely original.
-The Crocodile Dundee trailer that really wasn't a trailer and became a commercial for Australian tourism instead. But I just love everything about Danny McBride in general.
-The Amazon commercial with Gordon Ramsey and Anthony Hopkins. The Hannibal Lecter reference was just awesome.
-Solo trailer. I can't wait to see how many of you all bitch about how awful its going to be but you're still going to be in line for the first showing on the first night anyway.
-The Peter Dinklage / Morgan Freeman rap off.

I'll disagree with the majority. I liked the first Tide ad, but after that, it just got old.
I also wasn't a fan of the Doritos/Mountain Dew ad. If you're going to use Morgan Freeman in a commercial and o only have 2 or 3 words in his own voice, you're doing it wrong.

I personally don't care much about the commercials but I did like the Quicken Loan commercial with Keegan Michael Key and Big Sean.

The Good Odds Toyota commercial featuring Lauren Woolstencroft (born without legs fom the knees down and without a left arm) was my favorite by far. Inspirational. "Start Your Impossible." Goosebumps.

But the MLK Dodge ad and the "we're gonna cavity search you in a secret room no wait actually it's cancer survivors who want surprise you for some reason" were the #1 and #2 worst ads in forever.

I think the biggest missed opportunity had to of been the Pringles "Wow" commerical with Bill Hader. They missed out big time by not having it be Owen Wilson saying it. Would've easily made that commerical one of the funnier ones of the Super Bow.

- Rap Battle for Doritos and Seven Up
Worst was definitely the Dodge Ram commercial using MLK's speech; came off rather obtuse and the King family was on Twitter saying they were not consulted and did not agree to it.

While that may be true, parts of the MLK family did and received royalties from it. I have heard some of the stories about his family fighting for rights to license and/or sell things (including his nobel peace prize) and let's just say that a lot of what happens with his stuff does not seem to fit with the spirit of Dr. King.

Tide gets my vote for best concept. What client doesn't want the consumer to think about his product during every commercial, even commercials for other products? Genius.
