Way OT (but its the offseason)- Who's going to see the Avengers tonight?

Submitted by WMUgoblue on

Well who else is going out for midnight screenings? Got myself tickets on Tuesday and they were nearly soldout with 4 showings. It received a score of 92% from the critics at Rotten Tomatoes which makes me more excited, plus Joss Whedon directed so it has to be good.

I know the Dark Knight was probably the best comic book genre movie, but I myself am a Marvel fanboy so this appeals to me more than Nolan's Batman movies do.

Go ahead and delete if necessary but I figured someone out there is probably nerding out like I am tonight for this movie.

Meh... The only movies I might see in the near future are The Dictator and Prometheus.

You have an opportunity to see the Alien franchise in a way that many fans wish they could. That is to watch Alien and Aliens and STOP! Just make believe that Alien 3, Alien Resurrection and the Alien vs Predator movies were never made. It's too late for us but your memories of the franchise can be saved. Though Prmethius looks promising with Ridley Scott back at the helm.

Also I Fandangoed my Avengers tix for Friday night. Giggidy.

I've been nerdgasming about this since the aperance of Nick Fury at the end of Iron Man. Josh Whedon as writter/director makes it even better.

I'll be there.

I know this may be sad but I just don't have the imagination to enjoy this type of stuff

To be honest, I had no idea what the Avengers movie was, when I saw this thread.  Not sure I completely do now either, but I'm guessing some comic book thing.  Maybe I missed the boat, or it's just my age group (mid 30's), but I don't even know a single person who's into this type of genre.  Must be a certain age group, I guess.

Anyway, hope it's worth the late night.  I'll probably get the kids down, and plow through a 6 pack of something!

....and I will admit that I knew about the movie well in advance and will be seeing it this weekend. However, unlike MGoUser jabberwock, I only have someone who looks a bit like a Taylor Swift with auburn hair to take with me, so I may not fully understand his situation.

For the time being, "Smokey And The Bandit" is on Retroplex, I have a Guiness and the kids are asleep.

But how have you not even heard of it? Do you own a tv? I'm not sure there's been a sporting event or major tv program without a commercial for a month. Heck, the blog has had two different videos of Michigan highlights set to the trailers.

I know of a few people who pull off the dvr'd gameday, and I understand the regularly programming...but I think I see most of my commercials during sports.

Yes, everyday.  However, as I mentioned, the minute it turns to commercial, I'm on the phone or tablet, etc, checking/replying to work emails, reading the blog, WN, etc....  I guess I'm able to tune everything else out.  My wife frequently asks something, or makes a comment about a commercial, while I'm in the same room, and I'm clueless, as my head was burried in my phone.  Drives her crazy!

I too am in my mid thrities...have been looking forward to this movie for years.  Almost everyone I know is excited about this.  I guess most of the people I work with are Engineers (EE/SE) in their late twenties or military in their mid-twenties...99% of them are going to see this move in the next two weeks.

To each his/her own.

A buddy of mine told me yesterday afternoon he would be going to a midnight showing.  I had no idea what he was talking about.  That was honestly the first time I had ever heard of this movie.  I still don't really understand what the deal is.  People have been excited for years?  This is a movie, right?

With all the video and MARTIN SMASH connections. ;-) I was going to wait till late tomorrow to post this to see what people thought of the movie. But glad to see there's some other people ready. Have my IMAX tickets ready for the 12:01 showing. Just disappointed the bigger IMAX at the Henry Ford doesn't seem to have it. The crappy Ann Arbor one will have to do. Not going with my wife (who looks like....no one in Hollywood...maybe A war pic...Do Thi Hai Yen? They don't cast a lot like her...) because she'd never make it through a 2 hr 20 min movie starting after midnight (with Spidey trailer), no more on a work night. So going with my brother. We've been waiting all our lives for what was once a pipe dream that they'd make a movie with multiple characters in the same flick.

Really excited.  Love pretty much everything about this movie without having seen it.  Scarlett Johansson is so hot.  (I miss the popcorn gifs from when tresselgate was going on).  I love all the characters.  Can't wait to see more Hawkeye.  Not looking forward to work in the morning though.

I also got lucky enough to see the movie. I was so absorbed in the movie that I started sweating, and it had nothing to do with the temperature.
