W Gym wins B1G Regular Season Championship

It's been a season of growth for the Wolverine Women tumblers.

After an un-Michigan-like 2-2 start that included a loss in the B1G opener, things seemed hairy.

There are a lot of freshmen in the lineup and depth has been a problem this season at times. Especially when the injury bug comes as it has with 3 star athletes.

But, as the season progressed, the young gymnasts on the team got better. You can see this in the team scores. From scoring a 195.725 in that B1G opener loss to turning it on February and striking 197s on the board.

#11 Michigan entered today's Big Five, 5-way meet with a chance to win the B1G Regular Season Championship. Michigan took on host #16 Iowa, Minnesota, Penn State and Rutgers.

The Wolverines had a 4-1 record, as did Nebraska (who Michigan beat back in January). Michigan would need to win today's meet to win the title as the field was pretty weak in Nebraska's Big Five meet.

The Wolverines won all 4 team events, with Nicole Artz winning the individual title on Floor with a 9.900 score and Olivia Karas with an incredible 9.950 that came after she had a fall on the floor.

Michigan won the meet, posting a score of 197.150. The highest road score of the season. We are really hitting at the right time, similar to another Winter sport.

Michigan wins a share of the B1G Regular Season Championship. The Wolverines have won 3 of the 5 titles since it was recognized, the most of any team in the conference.

Michigan is now 12-3 and finishes with an 8-1 record in the B1G.

Next week is the real big one. The B1G Championships which are hosted by Rutgers. Michigan has won the last 3 B1G Championships and 21 of the last 25.

Tumbler is the old timey sports writing term they used for gymnastics.

I forgot to mention it yesterday in a thread where I posted all of the terms (linksmen, spikers, icers etc) so I had to work it in today.

I think I'm gonna be doing that going forward for my threads.
