VVSIAP: Michigan a 41 Point Favorite

They have to travel around the earth almost 4 times just to get to Ann Arbor!?
Sorry, I had to...
August 28th, 2016 at 1:26 PM ^
Rainbows, man.
August 28th, 2016 at 1:35 PM ^
I heard on the Sirius College Gameday station that they are to travel about 40,000 miles this year which would around the world twice. Obviously a big chunk of that will be from their first two games.
August 28th, 2016 at 2:49 PM ^
Do the players get FF miles on charter flights? Man I hope so. Would be a nice way for college students to be able to pay for some trips home / vacations during the off season.

Charter flights not likely
August 28th, 2016 at 1:40 PM ^
Well, they'll be flying east and gotta make up for Earth's rotation... Duh.
August 28th, 2016 at 1:55 PM ^
The earth is flat. They have to fly around the circumfince of the cirle to add time so the govt can keep the spherical earth lie going. It'll feel like 80-90,000 miles, but it will really only be around 5,500. Planes go much faster than is currently believed
August 28th, 2016 at 3:48 PM ^
I am going to assume that a "circumfince" is some kind of barrier to keep people from falling off the flat earth, right?
August 29th, 2016 at 2:43 AM ^
Yes, the circumfence.

You sound very credible and knowledge able. Where can i get your textbook to learn from your wisdom?
August 28th, 2016 at 5:29 PM ^
Hmmmm, your ideas intrigue me. I would like to subscribe to your newsletter and, time permitting, hear more about how I too can be born again...

Your world frightens and confuses me! Sometimes the honking horns of your traffic make me want to get out of my BMW... and run off into the hills, or wherever...
August 28th, 2016 at 1:26 PM ^
I feel bad for their players. The only reason we won't cover is subbing out the starters in the first half.
August 28th, 2016 at 1:28 PM ^
Exactly, that's why I hate those lines. If we go up 35-0 in the first half, the second half will be 3rd and 4th stringers, and I could see us winning 42-7. Or, I could see our 4th stringers run up the score and a 52-0 win or something. You just never know...
August 28th, 2016 at 1:27 PM ^
Harbaugh usually doesn't score more than he needs to in non conf games.
We could've murdered Oregon State and UNLV if we tried to score more. Same with BYU as the game was over at half.

Sure but I feel like some of the assistants have alluded recently to winning the way we're expected to, which against a team like Hawaii implies blowout.
Whatever helps us get into the Playoff (knock wood).
August 28th, 2016 at 3:06 PM ^
To WD, sometimes a coach does all he can to not run up the score, and it still happens. You cannot put your 3rd team out there and say, "now, don't try to play well." And if that 3rd team keeps scoring, they keep scoring. It just happens...
August 28th, 2016 at 7:22 PM ^
As an example, i give you one Lloyd Carr. Run run run punt add his philosophy one Michigan was up 3 points or more, no matter which line was on the field.
August 28th, 2016 at 9:53 PM ^
Several years later when Bo was asked if he ran up the score in this game, he said... "Anybody that got beat by that many points is going to say you ran it up. But the truth of the matter is, we were scoring with the third and fourth guys. We were scoring with EVERYBODY late in that game."
It was no secret that Bo was very angry with Illinois for firing Gary Moeller. And he did not like Illinois head coach Mike White who Bo considered a cheater for his recruiting tactics. Bo took great delight in pounding White's teams whenever he could.
Game played on November 7, 1981 in Ann Arbor.

8,400 closer than 84,000... but what's an extra 0?
August 28th, 2016 at 4:02 PM ^
What's an extra 0? Nothin'.
August 28th, 2016 at 4:39 PM ^
That's what I said to my boss. He disagreed.

I'd never bet against Michigan in a game but if I were a fan of anyone else I'd be all over Hawaii on this bet. No way we beat that spread. There are going to be guys playing for Michigan in the second half that even Brian has never heard of. Plus we'll be every bit as vanilla on O and D as we can be to win comfortably.
August 28th, 2016 at 4:21 PM ^
We will beat that spread.

That should all be priced into the market, so to speak. The guys setting these lines aren't idiots -- they know about all those things you mentioned.

But I expect our second and third strings to score.
August 28th, 2016 at 2:48 PM ^
The O/U is currently at 54.5. I don't know how you could expect the second and third strings to score, but the game not go over.
August 28th, 2016 at 3:23 PM ^
Harbaugh pulls the starters when it's 35-0. The backups score a touchdown and a field goal to score 45, and the defense allows a touchdown for a final score of 45-7. Total of 52.
August 28th, 2016 at 5:17 PM ^
Are you willing to wager on our backups scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, but the game staying under 54 and a hook? Otherwise, you're simply offering mathematical solutions to irrelevant problem.
August 28th, 2016 at 6:05 PM ^
I don't bet, so no wagering for me. And yes I am offering a mathematical solution. It's possible for the backups to score and for the total to be under 54, and it's not difficult to imagine at all.
August 28th, 2016 at 8:48 PM ^
You also have to account for the defense scoring touchdowns and/or a lot of short fields.
August 28th, 2016 at 1:49 PM ^
I think 3 QBs will play with Speight and O'Korn combining for 80-90% of the snaps. So even with the 2nd and 3rd teamers out there I think we still put up 40+ offensive points. Factor in a potential defensive and/or special teams TD and it could get real ugly for Hawaii (unintentionally).
59-10, Michigan covers.
August 28th, 2016 at 7:12 PM ^
speight and o'korn need as many snaps as possible. even in garbage time.
August 28th, 2016 at 1:51 PM ^
I think it might take the boys a while to get into the flow of things. I say 24-14 at half. End up winning by 31

That seems much more logical than the 70 point wins most here are predicting.
Last year when Hawaii played in Columbus, OSU led 17-0 going into the 4th quarter. If we only lead by 17 in the 4th quarter, I can't even think of how scary this place would be.
August 28th, 2016 at 3:16 PM ^
Good point. I probably won't be in on the game thread this weekend, but if we have to punt more than twice in the first half, I'm staying wayyy away from the Snowflake threads...
August 28th, 2016 at 2:42 PM ^
zero chance that Hawaii scores 14 in the first half. I can see the offense sputtering for the first half, but I'd be shocked if Hawaii scores 14 in the game. 48-10 good guys.
