Vince Marrow turned down Harbaugh because of OSU family ties

Submitted by BlueCube on

This is per cleveland.com.The story says it's one reason but his wife and many other in=laws are OSU alums.

Edit: Hard to believe he would be such an idiot to let that stand in the way of a career advancement opportunity. Glad he didn't come.

So his family and mainly his wife are OSU people who don't care for Michigan.

Well, his wife should be thanking Michigan now, because we helped her husband get that fat ass raise.

It's possible that maybe he was just pretending to be sincerely interested in our offer, just to get Kentucky to hand over some more loot.

We get Harbaugh because of school ties and don't get Marrow for the same reason in reverse. It's all good and part of what we love about college football. Go Blue!

LOL - Gary Moeller was an All-American LB for Woody Hayes in the early sixties. Bo was an assistant for Woody and in line to step in as HC (per Woody) before he was hired by Miami (NTM).

What a dipshit. The position he's responsible for coaching hasn't done shit so far.

Oh well - he'll be unemployed in a couple of years when UK continues to pile up losses.

His mistake - also, Balas insinuated that there was some dirt on the guy that made Balas a bit uncomfortable with Marrow joining the staff.

"They kind of made it clear over Christmas. They weren't excited. When I was going to take the job at Kentucky, they were excited. They didn't sound like that with Michigan."

I told my family that I was going to march right into that kitchen and make myself a pastrami on rye. They weren't excited. When I told them that I was also considering just heating up a can of Campbell's cream of mushroom and using it as an exfoliant, they were excited. So many great uses for such reasoning.

Not sure I see this as an issue. Can't blame the guy if he wants to keep peace at home this way. If he's truly a hot prospect other jobs will come along. Besides I'm happier having a young guy on the staff that can develop his coaching style to match expectations.

Obviously, he didn't turn down Michigan because it would have pissed off his brother in law who went to OSU. Making career decisions based on your in-laws' opinion of a rival school rather than the career opportunity presented would make him a complete fucktard, and I highly doubt he's that dumb. He turned us down because Kentucky brought the dolla dolla bills. But then he leverages a fairly public rejection of Michigan's overtures into rah rah go buckeyes PR. Smart move for a guy who recruits Ohio, deals with Ohio coaches and will probably need to find a job somewhere near the state of Ohio after Stoops gets shitcanned in a year or two. I can definitely see how this guy would be a successful recruiter.

Look I am sure Marrow is a fine recruiter but the hype surrounding this guy is out of control. I heard the same crazy hype about Donnal during his red shirt year. Sounds like there is too much drama around this guy anyway. Time for everyone to move on.

LOL... I can't help to laugh at this.

He had no intentions of going to UM. He just used it as a way to get more $$$ out of UK. UK is a far easier job and less stress. UK Football is the redheaded stepchild of the SEC so what would be considered a winning season there would certainly not acceptable at Michigan.

He knew what he did looked bad so he used the whole "family thing" an excuse. Like others pointed out...did that stop Bo and Gary? Hahahahahha.

How hard is it to move on? He was going to be a tight ends coach that is all. A lot of people are trashing this guy sounding an awful lot like Sparty... Move on we hired Jim Harbaugh, Jim FREAKING Harbaugh. Sorry for yelling

I would say this is  lame. i am sure the money would have been higher. family should be considered about moving. this should not be because family ties. give up a chance for big school and money.
