Beat me by one stinkin' minute. Bah!
I was shocked as well
Now there's a name I haven't heard in a while.
Yeah, where is that guy? Somebody should make a post about it.
for the softball team.
Don't be ridiculous.

Maybe he has changed his mind about being a college QB. IIRC, Cal was going to give him a shot at QB and that's in of the reasons he ended up there. So if that's still his mindset, he won't end up at Michigan. He would be a perfect fit for Don Brown and our defense. A recruit like this would take our future linebacking corp to ELITE status.
He's a good athlete, and can play on both sides of the ball. Yippee. He's not even remotely "elite", though. The standards of this fan base for talent are still way too low.
there's a reason he's called vicious
That's why they're called "highlights", dude. You could put together clips of most of the D1defensive recruits in the country putting a few big hits on people over the course of their high school careers. It's nothing special.
but with Hill and Poggi gone soon, a move to FB/HB would suit his skill set quite well
As far as the standards being too low with talent, that is a really weird thing to suggest and has no basis in fact.
The obsession with him is very odd.
Personally, I would not want the coaching staff to pursue a guy that was not willing to make adjustments for the team. Pass.
still falls all over themselves to gush over every 3 star recruit with a mediocre offer list that will likely take 3-4 years to see significant playing time. That's the basis in fact.
Are you talking about the small segment of MgoBlog fans?
Because as far as the general public? I would say it is the complete opposite. I do not think that group gets all giddy about a mid 3-star.
who pay attention to such things and have an opinion on them.
Yeah, that did not really answer my question.
Don't just unfairly assume because you read a message board that all Michigan fans share the same opinion.
share the same opinion on anything? Nowhere. You made that up and stuck those words in my mouth, and tried to call ME unfair for saying it.
You said a significant portion. I called you out for that.
I'll leave it at that.
And no, I'm not counting people who have no awareness or opinion on the subject. You're the one presuming to know what those people think, not me.
It's not every 3 star recruit, but yes there are often underrated recruits who become fan favorites for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it's because their name is LEVITICUS PAYNE and sometimes it's because their nickname is Vicious Vic and they wear a badass fucking bandana while squatting 600 pounds. There's nothing wrong with that, it makes recruiting more fun.
You don't have to play along, but bitching about it won't change anything.
but recruiting those types doesn't necessarily win games,
And yes, let's ban every discussion topic on this board unless the discussion will actually change the Michigan football program.
I'm not suggesting anything be banned. I'm just telling you that your efforts to thwart our irrational love for Vicious Vic (and whoever comes next) is futile.
I have no clue what you are talking about.
I am not bitching about ANYTHING here. And I am not getting mad at anyone who DOES get enamored with those low star recruits. You can do whatever you like as a fan.
I'm calling out a poster who says a signifcant amount of Michigan fans gets caught up in the hype. Nothing more, nothing less.
Psst, he wasn't talking to you.
Missed the memo on that one. Long day.
What's not to like?
Eh, Freddie Canteen comes to mind. I would not say that was a small segment of MgoBlog that was obsessed with him based on one workout video and him torching Blake Countess a couple times in the spring game. Admittedly, I got caught up in the hype too.
And I do believe there is a segment of Michigan fans that watch hype videos and gets caught up in lower stars and what they can do.
But to say there is a "significant segment" of Michigan fans that obsess over mid 3-stars is just made up. If anything, if you talked to the average M fan in public and said, "Hey, we just landed a high 2-star, but he's super athletic," the response would probably be very, very tepid. I'm part of that.
I used to go crazy about the recruiting game, but it is such a crapshoot. At this point, I'm at the "show me" stage.
Unless they commit early, then we forget about them!
larger portion of the fanbase has been slightly disappointed that despite having Harbaugh, we're still taking a surprising number of 3-stars and getting surprisingly few 5-stars (especially when Urban gets a commit from one seemingly every week).
One has to admit there are some (not sure how many it takes to be "significant" in this context) who are rationalizing our non-elite recruiting (by purely quantitative standards) by overhyping some 3-stars we take as magical HARBAUGH 3-stars that are Football Players and are destined to be better than their rankings/offer lists.
But to defend that mindset, most of those that get the hype-train treatment are high three stars that are mostly indistinguishable from 4-stars, like Hudson, McDoom, Eubanks, Stueber, Hawkins, etc. And Harbaugh does have a track record of getting high character guys that outperform recruiting rankings so having the Harbaugh seal of approval is reason for some excitement.
because Harbaugh recruited him til the end of the cycle, and the staff was pretty disappointed in him decommitng.
Coach loves moving guys around, especially when said player already excels at multiple positions
Our 2018 class has too many 3 star projects with unimpressive offer lists, compared to teams like OSU. And we offer these guys very early in the process. Why are we so far out of the running for more elite talent that we have to grasp at these guys like we're afraid they'll get away?
So if he came here he'd basically be the Barandon Inge of Michigan football.
So we'll see lots of whiffs on tackles???
Mixed in with some incredible plays. All of the Inge haters have convienently forgetten the years where he gave us some amazing defensive play. I would love to have that Inge on the team today. Towards the end it got ugly though.
If only those meanie pitchers would've stopped pitching him like he was Babe Ruth!
because of that defense. Most people focused a bit too much on the Ks. His power made him about a neutral batter in terms of WAR, I'm pretty sure and his defense made him a nicely positive player. Plus, he was a swiss army knife and awesome guy.
Bite your tongue. No one speaks ill of Inge on my watch. How dare you.
He's not the only guy to go 0-fer int he Home Run Derby,
Oh, wait... scratch that.
Robbie Cano went 0-fer a few years back.
have you seen how he rocks a headband?
Not for me. I want fields at QB. Add RB. Want salyer and frere added to o-line if I got the names right. Ruckert and MM at TE. Tyreke smith, Friday, Kid from MO., perkins , Hutch, mcneil. Simon and Reese at lb. Sims, stuart, greens maybe, Jobe, Dean etc.
I wish I could upvote this 100 more times. Never understood the infatuation with him either. Definitely a solid player with a cool name, but nothing to be overly excited about.
He wears a headband and looks like Uncle Rico.
Coach, I heard someone say "sweep", and I just couldn't help myself.
I like the guy, but I doubt he would take our LB's to ELITE by himself. The dude barely played defense in high school and not one service even rated him as a Linebacker. On top of that we already have 3 studs at LB coming in this year who I like a lot more then Vic at LB (who has barely played that position for the last 3-4 years). Even if he came here as a LB, I highly doubt he would be a starter 2 years from now. Possibly not even on the 2 deep since we have a lot of young talent and he really doesn't have much experience.
Anyone know how his time at Cal went? ...or the reason for his impending transfer?
